[Unfortunately for the current residents of Johto, they might be unfortunate enough to find what might be one of the worst video feeds ever on the network. It seems to cut in and out at first, and even after it manages to stay on for longer than ten seconds, the video is really just... the world spinning endlessly. Ground, leaves, sky, ground, leaves, sky -- Occasionally a tree is visible for half a second and the direction of movement seems to change, but other than that, it's an endless loop of ground-leaves-sky.
It might eventually be obvious that the camera appears to be attached to something that is rolling quickly down a hill. It probably helps that the entire feed is accompanied by the sound of what's clearly a Pokémon "hooting" over and over - rather excitedly, at that - and a voice somewhere in the distance. Pay close enough attention and the words being yelled out are things along the lines of--]
Wait!! Come back!! Just-- Spread your wings and stop rolling already!!
[Does that sound like a new trainer in need of help? That's probably because that's more less exactly what it is.]

[Because that's one of the easiest things to do right now. But even so, Pidge does actually listen to him. Front right pocket of the bag - she reaches back and feels around for it, and while it's awkward from the angle she's at she does manage to find it. Reaching into the pocket itself is a whole other challenge, though. She's gonna have to pull it off her shoulder mid-run.]
Quiznak- Lance, if this doesn't work I'm honestly gonna beat you up!
no subject
[No, don't trust him. Never trust him. Just go ahead and skip to the end where you beat him up.
Lance is on the edge of his box seat right now, practically biting his nails like Pidge is about to go face to face with Zarkon solo instead of trying to stop a runaway owl. This has to work. It's gotta work. He hopes he's not leading his friend astray.]
Come on! Hurry up and get the ball out before it rolls into a river and drowns!
no subject
But whatever, she has practically nothing to lose this time.]
Shut up! I'm working on it!!
[And she does in fact manage to pull out the so-called PokéBall in the next few seconds. Which she immediately proceeds to throw in the owl's direction, with pretty damn good aim that's been honed through all her time as part of Voltron. It strikes true, bopping Rowlet on the back of the head and throwing him off in mid-air...
...and then the ball bounces off of him, and they both end up just sort of landing in a pile of leaves. At least he's stopped for now.
Pidge has to slide to a stop, eyes wide and gasping in shock.] OH QUIZNAK, I THINK IT KILLED HIM.
no subject
[Oh, there's that very important bit of information Lance left out. You know, the one part that would have the ball open and suck up the Pokemon and stop this entire shitshow. Trust him? Should have listened to the narrator, Pidge.
Lance is breathing as hard as if he was running himself and now he's peering closely at the 'gear screen, trying to make out what's happening.]
Is he breathing?
no subject
[She's going to kill you, Lance. You've caused her to murder her little owl friend.
Pidge drops to her knees next to the pile of leaves, pushing them out of the way to keep the Pokémon uncovered. He's got his eyes shut and his wings are slightly sprawled to his sides, and Pidge is almost scared to even touch him in case something is broken. She's very careful when she finally does lay a hand over his chest to see if he's breathing.
And then she lets out a sigh of relief.] Okay. He's alive, he's breathing.
no subject
[She's the genius here! Why is she depending on an idiot to explain the intricacies of Pokemon catching? This is the guy who skips the tutorials in video games and wonders why he dies so easily to survivable mechanics.
He too lets out a sigh of relief. The bird's alive so maybe the asskicking won't be too severe.]
You gotta take him to a Pokecenter. The nurses will heal him up. [A pause as he doesn't remember seeing Pidge pass any buildings.] Where are you anyway?
no subject
Anyway. The asskicking will be as severe as Pidge feels is necessary.]
What the hell's a Pokécenter? I barely know where I am right now, all I know is that the lady calling herself my mom sent me packing this way.
no subject
It's where you go when your Pokemon are hurt. There's a nurse there who'll fix him for free.
[And ignore any lewd commentary from Lance every time he tries to hit on her, but he's sure not admitting that much right now.]
On your 'gear there's a map. Tell me where the GPS says you are.
[His guess is that she's likely closer to New Bark rather than Cherrygrove, but at this rate, it's better to have some certainty before he goes pointing her all over the place.]
no subject
Uhh- I'm close to New Bark Town, but we're way off the road. [And then she's going through buttons and menus again. There must be some way to give him a more precise location than that.] Kind of close to the shoreline.
no subject
He rests his head in his hands, wondering what to do next. Think, Lance, think. You can be smart when you want to be.]
Wait, Pidge. If you go back to New Bark, there's a lab there with an old guy, Professor Elm. He's next door to the Mom house. He'll heal up the owl. It'll be a shorter trip to go back there than it is to try and get to Cherrygrove alone.
[And he can't come get her, not without taking days.]
no subject
She looks back at the 'gear when Lance speaks up again, then nods at his words with a determined look in her eye.]
Got it. I'm heading back over there now. [And then, kind of as an after thought, she adds-] Thanks, Lance.
no subject
I'll call Shiro and see if he can fly down and come pick you up. I'd do it myself, except... the island is pretty far and I don't have a big ass metal chicken like he does. It'll take me days to get there.
[Lance pauses and glances up at the clock on the wall. His break is coming to an end and he needs to head back up front. But first:]
Hey, Pidge? My bad.
no subject
Pidge nods again and moves to turn the device off, but stops when Lance apologizes. She blinks at him, slightly surprised, and then gives him a little smile.]
That's okay. [Then, without even changing her expression:] Just be ready to get your ass kicked.
no subject
Heeeeey! It's not my fault you gave the bird brain damage!
[It's totally his fault. Utterly his fault.]
no subject
But don't worry, Lance. I'll make sure the bird knows where to put the blame.
no subject
no subject
[Still so matter-of-fact and smiley.]
no subject
And what if you're just saying that to lure me into a sense of peace before you sic the bird on me. I WILL NOT BE FOOLED!
no subject
Well, damn. I guess you've caught me now.
