Yeah, I remember when I was younger and everybody was listening to that fuckin' Lady Gaga song 'Bad Romance' and my brain got it all mashed up with 'Witch Doctor'.

[Nothing like your brain grabbing an overplayed song you don't necessarily like so much and then making it nonsense like 'Rah rah ah-ah-ah ro mah ro-mah-mah ting tang walla walla bing bang' and just sticking that shit on repeat on the mental playlist.]

Don't know the specific songs, but I get the feeling that sucked. Both the endless repeat and the mash up.
Sometimes it feels like the local radios have even less variety than they did back home. I never imagined that could be possible.

Oh no, they definitely are more limited. But I think the whole subject matter to write songs about is less than normal too. Bad shit makes for good creativity and all the careers here revolve around one thing. I don't blame you for taking the classical route. Don't have to worry about tacky lyrics. I was looking for jazz on it for a while for the same reason.

I wouldn't say no to some jazz either, at this point. Anything to make the chip tune go away without replacing with whatever'S floating around Cherrygrove or Violet.
Wait, no, Violet and Olivine share the same music. Not only are all the songs about Pokémon, but even the background soundtrack can't be bother to invent something new for each town. That definitely crosses the line between no creativity and plain laziness.

They do that all the time in the normal world too. Where you got the basic beat and most of the notes the same, and then they change lyrics? Or they rip music from a different country and throw some English over it or vice versa. Sounds par for the course to me.

What plays for you when you're doing something. That thing.

[He hates everything about dealing with music here. And also it requires fussing with a new but old device when he can barely program his super intense smart phone back home. He has no search engines or online guides! He might get an aneurysm at this point.]

Pretty sure they do that in every world that has music. Learning that my hometown's traditional graduation music got a few of its lyrics changed elsewhere to become a lullaby was a shock, let me tell you.

A personal soundtrack? That depends on what you want.
If you'd like your own battle music, just earn five badges and it'll change permanently.
If you want to compose stuff and play it as you travel, there are apps for that. We even used to have a Porygon around that did dubstep remixes.
If you want existing music, but different music, you're pretty much stuck with the radio.

Sounds like I could stand catching a porygon, at least.

Catching a Porygon is a good idea in general, even if you decide to accept the basic soundtrack. Having one poke around your gear is much faster and cheaper than getting it repaired, and they can play with other electronics too.

[Ash would suggest asking nicely and offering treats, but then again he was blessed with a polite and helpful Porygon. Not every Porygon is polite and helpful.]

The more you say, the more I think I'll need one.

I prefer having long lasting stuff than shit I gotta replace all the time. So having a pokemon that can fix stuff would be pretty damn helpful.

[Knowing his luck he'll get a cantankerous one but that's why he has a partner that's pretty determined to get good at training. ]

It won't help you much if you let an Onix sit on it, but you'll never have to worry about corrupted apps, spyware or battery drain again. Plus you can use it to battle. Excellent investment.

Note to self, if I end up with a big rocky worm-dragon, don't put my PokeGear near it. Actually that probably applies to most dragons. [That battery drain thing is pretty great, too. Imagine life minus the agitation of getting one last power cord caught on something. ]

You're welcome. Helping out doesn't make the music go away, but it is a decent distraction, so the last few minutes were far less painful than the rest of my day. Much appreciated, really.
