[Lance is sitting on the pier at Olivine, long legs swinging off the edge of the dock. Off-camera but just off to the side, splashing can be heard with the occasional song of Bruce Whalis the Wailord and the chittering of Allura the Primarina teaching Veradera the Vaporeon all sorts of bad sea habits.]
Aside from gym leaders, are there people who have only a certain type of Pokemon they find themselves picking up? Like Ghost or Electric or....
[He punches a finger at the gear's screen to bring up the full list of Pokemon types and then nods.]
Or Bug. Yeah, so regular trainers like us. I have other types in my bag and computer, but I keep picking out the Water types. That's pretty bad, right? Not like the others are getting jealous or anything, but bad in like, that makes me a half-assed trainer when it comes to taking on gyms.
Not that I'm about to try for a badge or anything, but... I'm just thinking. Yeah, thinking. A lot.
[And doing so probably is giving him a migraine.]

[Sorry, give him a second as he cracks up.]
That was terrible. Why would you say such a thing?

Admittedly, I have a few other pokemon as well, but most of the pokemon I own are Water types too. Or, well, they come from the ocean. And, that might not be the most ideal thing for battling or taking on gyms, but I also don't think it needs to be a deterrent. One of the most important things is being able to bond with your pokemon while you train. A pokemon you don't have a bond with, won't really obey you in battle. If Water pokemon are the ones you bond most easily with, then I think it is only logical to take advantage of that.
Plus, Water pokemon are a very varied group of pokemon. Lots of them have secondary types that can really change the course of battle and take opponents by surprise. For example, you'd think a Water-based team would be bad again someone using Electric types, right? But there are some Water pokemon that are completely immune to Electric attacks too because they have a Ground subtyping. Or you could use moves like Camouflage to temporarily change your pokemon's type.
Video;
Allura's half Fairy. I guess if she wanted to take on send NOODles, then she'd have an advantage since she's half Dragon type. But that's about it for halfsies. The others I have are straight Water.
[He kicks a leg out into the water, giving Veradera a platform to climb up into his lap. Wet pants? Who cares?]
I should probably catch some more while I'm out here. For a while I was just accepting eggs from people, but I guess that's the lazy way of things.
Video;
Also, even if your pokemon are pure Water types, there is still the types of moves they have to consider. Some pokemon can learn a lot of different moves from other types too. A flamethrower by a non-Fire type might not be as strong as one used by a Fire type, but a Grass pokemon will still be vulnerable to it all the same.
Video
Though I don't think there's anything wrong with having a lot of Pokemon of a certain type. We all have things we naturally lean towards.
Video
[That and porn, but Yuuko is a MOM and Lance knows better than to make those kind of comments around her.]
How've you been, by the way?
Video
I've been fine, thanks! It's been busy at the rink since hockey season is still going, but the Christmas presents you gave me have helped me get through it.
audio
That's what counts here.

[All of a sudden, his eyes go wide and Lance starts waving his hand.]
Not that I'm saying I'm unable to before you start on the whole believing in me stuff again. I mean, I haven't taken on any of the gyms yet or really looked into any of them.
[He knows you all too well, Shiro. Save the confidence speech for when he really needs it.]

I know the other continent has a couple, at the very least.
[Fine, you want to take the wind out of his sails? He'll give you new ones.]

[Text]

well yea cause its true
type is easy winning
i do it too
but also u cant just give up n say u cant do somethin because type isnt workin for u
[video]
I like grass-types myself. A lot of them seem gentle and, if you'll excuse the pun, down-to-earth. I like calm Pokemon.

So far two of mine are birds and two of them can spit fire. Not sure if that's gonna be a continuing trend.

I am unsure if this applies, but I have been trying to catch whatever Pokémon seem interesting enough to warrant further study. For example, I have already obtained a psychic embryo, a ghost that demonstrates classic Class-5 possession traits, and a parasitic fungus inhabiting a small crab for further examination and observation.
That being said, Ghost and Psychic type creatures interest me the most. I look forward to studying them up close.

[And there's currently a Raichu hitching a ride on a Magnezone in the background of Connor's video, which kind of proves his point.]

I don't have a type so much as a theme
people think I'm the Electrode guy
[Jean, honey, because you are...]
but I actually don't have many electric types
a lot of mine are Pokemon that look like something else

well
I was at a pretty big type disadvantage on my most recent one, but I think we came out alright. Beyond those ones though, I think my type tends to be uh... ones people think are either scary, or they look scary. Mine definitely have the potential, especially Galliard. Some people seem pretty thrilled with the whole 'dinosaur' aspect but I've also met a lot of people who are really nervous or wary around him simply from how big he is.[And the teeth. It's totally the mouth full of big, sharp teeth.]

Ghosts are my thing, I cannot avoid that.
I would love to collect more pink Pokemon, since that's my favorite color, but the Ghosts just keep coming.
[It's definitely not alarming at all to say that like she doesn't really have a choice in it or something!!]

I tend to collect a few different types of pokemon. I love Dark Types, and pokemon that fit my creepy goth aesthetic! But I also adore cats.
So while it makes more sense to have a well rounded team of different elements, sometimes it's even more satisfying to pick a pokemon that logically shouldn't win, and watch it stomp a challenging opponent flat!
[She says this while flanked by her Absol, a shiny incineroar a purrloin and an Alolan Meowth.]

Oh. And I also find myself collecting Poison types.
