[The feed turns on and reveals Richard hunched over, frowning and staring into the device for a minute. Though, that frown turns upside down and a grin replaces it when he realizes he's live.]

Oh, is this thing finally working? Wonderful!

[He holds up the PokéGear and sits up straight, crossing his legs and getting comfortable. He gestures to the scenery around him, which seems to be a ferry's deck.]

You know, I can't believe that this boat doesn't have sails! It's absolutely bonkers! Totally insane! Like, how the heck is this even possible?

[It's wild.]

Also, more importantly, what's up with the music constantly playing in the background? It's like this place wants me to break into song for literally no reason.

...Not that I ever really had any reasons for doing that before, but still. It's just going on and on and on and on.... How does this place expect me to sing for hours on end?

Ohhh, yeah, the music. Thanks buddy. I'd almost managed to block it out.

Apparently, that's just a thing in this universe. You get used to it, I guess. Up until someone reminds you its there.

Please don't sing. No one's asking you to sing.

You know, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what someone who really wants me to start singing would say.

[Obviously. This guy can't possibly be serious about not wanting to hear him burst into song.]

Yeah, you're right. I definitely want you to sing. Singing is absolutely a good idea and won't cause terrible, horrible things to happen to you.

[If trying to tell this guy NOT to sing won't work, maybe a bit of reverse psychology and bluff will save his ears.]

[From further down the deck, as Gal leans over the railing tiredly:]

If you start singing for hours on end I will throw you overboard.

[Richard rolls his eyes.]

Oh, don't be so dramatic! You and I both know the longest I could possibly keep it up for is 2 hours tops.

And you can't tell me you haven't had the urge to break out into song too. [:/] I'll bet you're over there right now quietly humming along to the mysterious background music.

Two hours too long. [That's mostly muttered under his breath. He raises his voice afterwards:] I'm not humming. I never hum.

And besides, I only sing when the situation warrants it, and now is not the time. We're not even doing anything. We're just stuck on a boat. Again.

Oh, sure, and I never cry myself to sleep every night. [(x) doubt]

What do you mean?

Boring boat rides are the perfect time for songs! That's why sea shanties are a thing!

[okay richard just go ahead and roast yourself like that]

Sea shanties? Please, we're not pirates. I would've thought you'd be sick of those by now. [Gal rests his elbow on the railing, propping his chin up with his hand.] Wouldn't it be nicer to just... enjoy the boat ride for what it is? Quiet. Boring. The perfect time for some... I don't know. Introspection?

With me way down here, [he gestures to the spot he's currently standing in, given he's already on the far end of the ferry,] and you... way over there... [And then points to the other end of the boat. Where there's plenty of space for Richard to move down.]

The ship is powered by clean electricity and travels at a top speed of approximately twenty knots. It is a feat in nautical engineering.

The music is an unexplained aspect of this dimension. One must assume that this is just inherent to this world as much as gravity.

Clean electricity? Is that some sort of dark magic?

[He has no clue what the fuck that is.]

[Egon blinks.]

It is electricity produced in a manner that produces little to no excess waste.

[A pause. Perhaps this man is from a dimension in which electricity has not yet been harnessed, which is a very likely possibility.]

Electricity is a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged particles, such as electrons or protons, either statically as an accumulation of charge or dynamically as a current. Like lightning. This energy can then be harnessed to power certain devices and vehicles.

I'm afraid the music is just... there. All the time. I've been here for more than two years and it has never stopped.

You learn to tune it out after a while.

Two years?! Dear god, you poor boy...

The longest a musical number has ever lasted for me is three or so minutes. I know that some people prefer their songs to be even longer than that, but this...

This is just too much. What kind of monster would do this? [Hello he would like to speak to a manager.]

R-really, it's not that bad. It's a lot better than back home.

[Cheery background music or the screams of the dying. Hmmmmm. Tough choice.]

Please feel free to break out in song, if you can think of lyrics to go along with these tunes I would love to hear it.

[...And she was completely sincere in saying that. Yep. That's how Botan be.]

As for hours, well, I've had five years with this music, you just learn to block it out after a while. But! That's besides the point! Welcome to the world of Pokemon! My name is Botan, I can answer any questions you might have about what's going on if you so wish.

[Just you wait, Botan. He'll come up with suitable lyrics soon enough.]

Any questions? [Hmmm....

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his Pokeball, holding it up to the camera.]

What exactly is this thing?

That's a Pokeball, a containment object for Pokemon. When you already have a Pokemon that belongs to you, like the little one you started with, you just point the ball at them to put them back in. When capturing new Pokemon, you throw an empty ball at them after they've been suitably weakened.

I know it sounds alarming but we're constantly assured by Pokeball makers that it's not an unpleasant environment for Pokemon inside.

[Because--because it's just the putting them in balls part that's alarming, of course, not the "beat them up to weaken and capture them" part!]

It is my assumption that one grows accustomed to the music, over time.

Singing is not yet required of us, to my knowledge.

[Riku holds up his hands, brow raised. Probably an odd looking fellow, given he can't be much older than his twenties now, yet he's got silver hair.]

So, let me get this straight. Are spontaneous musicals just... a thing where you're from?

I thought only really, really old boats had sails.

[Then again she is more used to spaceships so.]

I don't think you have to sing. No one else sings to the music in the background.

I haven't found any words that go with the songs yet, but I've been writing the notes down. And a friend gave me a book with the songs all written down in them. I think the songs are magic, and that they mean something, but I haven't figured out if they have any special powers yet, or how to unlock them.

Pokémon like hearing the songs, though. So I think you should sing for your Pokémon.
