[Ripley nods, shaking Hank's hand and smiling a little. She takes the paper, folds it, and puts it in her pocket. There's still a large portion of her brain dedicated towards worrying about Newt, but at least her fears seem to be temporarily assuaged with this man telling her what's been going on.

She'll feel a lot better when she finally sees Newt face to face.]

Hank. I'm Ellen Ripley, but I'm sure you knew that already.

[Bug-type Pokémon, eggs...oh. Oh, dear. Ripley's expression hardens, and a sense of exhaustion seems to settle over her whole body. She lets out a deep sigh, crossing her arms. When she speaks, her voice remains level and flat.]

I can definitely answer that question. The company that ran her colony didn't care about protecting the people and didn't care about the alien threat on the planet. The aliens somehow managed to get in and killed everyone--every family, every employee, every child. All except Newt.

[Her knuckles are white as she grips her arms. She could go on, but she gets the feeling that Hank isn't here to listen to Ripley rant angrily about companies for an hour.]

The aliens look--well, like...big, black bugs, and they're even bigger than an average sized human. They lay eggs the size of a small refrigerator, and, using humans, they...jump out and try to...incubate their young in a human host. [She stops for a moment to collect herself, closing her eyes and allowing herself to breathe. Her hand has unconsciously moved towards her chest.] Do you know if there's anyone in the area who specializes in child therapy or such here? She's been through more than a kid should have been, and I just--I just want her to be able to have a normal life. As a kid.

[As she's talking, Tubbs is sniffing over the Litten with his big nose. There is this dire story going, a tale of death and despair and children being the lone survivors of impossible circumstances, and in the background of it a big fluffy firedog's tail is wagging in direct contradiction.]

[It's a fucked up mood juxtaposition that Hank has gotten used to.]

Nah, this is a place where people usually don't even need therapy. So the locals don't even fuckin' think of it. Hell, they kind of boot their kids out at ten to go on this pokemon walkabout and learn about the world behind them. [And save for the occasional wailing unfortunate ghost pokemon that used to be a child, things barely ever happen.] I run a rescue operation. [Or he does while he's in Goldenrod.] Ninety percent of anything bad that happens is just some family losing a pokemon.

[If they did have psychological services, he's sure they wouldn't understand. They probably wouldn't even understand his, and as far as trauma goes his is mundane as fuck and not human-sized beetles shooting springloaded jack-in-the-box beartraps onto faces.]

She's got a lot of support at least. There's this thing here, where people can't really die. Not the biggest help but it's enough to make her feel alright.

[It's fine. This is why the Pokémon world is excellent towards recovering from various trauma. The Litten meows loudly, then gently grabs Tubb's nose with his paws.

Ripley nods slowly, tilting her head to the side and crossing her arms. She already feels a bit more comforted by this, but it's in her nature to be wary about things. Especially since last time she was promised things were "safe", aliens attacked them.]

I've heard that these...Pokémon are capable of powerful things. Are you sure there's no risk of them attacking humans? Because, if so, I wouldn't really feel comfortable with having Newt around these creatures.

[Yeah, it's kind of a mom thing to worry about, but it's an understandable thing to think about.]

Yeah they'll attack humans, but it's about like a raccoon or a fuckin' squirrel causing trouble. Not exactly a huge danger. People can't really die here, which is pretty fuckin' weird, yeah. But good with all the kids and generally traumatized people around.

Most trainers that go between the towns where the biggest risks are? Have pokemon that are a lot stronger than the wild ones, and the wild pokemon will aim for the other pokemon first. She's really in no more danger than in a playground by lake that has a couple of swans in it. She's a smart kid. She wouldn't bother the swans.

[God, that fuckin' flashes him back to that lakeside playground. Something he shouldn't think too hard on. It really would be nice if Cole showed up, too. Just so he could hug him again. That wouldn't be too much to ask, would it?]
