"Heh. Maybe not, but it never hurts to be polite, you know? Here, catch."

She grins again, more nicely than before, and tosses the ball back in his direction - politely.

"I guess a bunch of people have been turning into Pokemon this weekend so I figured I'd give it a try. Kinda fun, but I think I like being me better."

Marceline, literally everyone you've met who's been turned into a pokemon has A.) had no choice, and B.) been unable to change back on their own power. This experiment you've just conducted has been flawed from the beginning.

"So where are you from? I haven't seen clothes that fancy in a while."

He catches the ball with a fast movement, though he barely registers it himself, aside from nice job being a general feeling he indulges in.

"People have been able to freely shift form?" He had sort of encountered the people stuck as pokemon event, but he also dismissed it as mattering since he was not, personally, a pokemon, and no one he knew was running around needing him to make sure they're okay while they're stuck as a pokemon.

What a life.

He answers while gracefully folding his fan, studying Marceline and trying to place her in any context he recognises. It's not working, but then again, he's in a world populated by pokemon. Right now he's impressed they're not challenging each other to battle.

"Cang Qiong Mountain Sect's Qing Jing Peak." He expects this means nothing. He doesn't bother clarifying, kind of curious what she will or won't ask about and after. "I'm called Shen Qingqiu." And he's the peak master, but if he expects none of it to be recognised, then why talk about it like it matters? What nonsense! (For now.) "What of yourself?"

"Mmmm, no, it's mostly just something that's been happening to people. I can change shapes, though, so I figured, why not?" She concludes that statement with a grin and a shrug. "There's a lot of cute and cool critters around here. I guess I might just be here for a weekend thing but I don't think I'd hate it if I wound up staying a little longer. It's interesting."

As he expects, the place name he gives her means nothing. She didn't really expect to know where it was, though, so it's not like a huge shock.

"Hey Shen Qingqiu, I'm Marceline Abadeer, here on a surprise vacation from the Kingdom of Ooo." There, now they've both told each other place names that have literally zero meaning to non-residents. "You been stuck here long?"

Wonderful, mutual ignorance has been established, and he's feeling Just Fine about all of that.

"Half a day. Yourself, Miss Marceline Abadeer?"

Delightful, mutual blissful ignorance!

"About a day. I guess this kind of thing happens about twice a year, here? Just for a couple of days. Not gonna lie, I'd kinda like to stay a little longer than just this weekend."

Staying here for more than a weekend... He'll pass! He really will pass! It's a nice lark, at least.

"You find this place that appealing?"

The pokemon are less threatening than demons, and fascinating n their own way. Still, he has a life to get back to, and a husband who is not exactly great with dimensional separation.

"Yeah! It seems really interesting, and I'm always down for new scenes to check out and new stuff to do."

She squints at him a little then, because his dubiousness is practically palatable.

"...Why, are you having a bad time?"

No, he's not! Does everything have to be between good and bad?

"There are people I'm worried about," he says instead, "Who are better off with me around than not."

More importantly, he'd miss those people. Particularly Luo Binghe, as complicated as so much of their relationship has been. Now is meant to be the time of them learning who each other is, together. The start of their time together.

Instead, he's here with pokemon. Not as planned!

....Nah.

"So you're the Responsible Friend, huh? I get that, that's fair." She pauses, thinks a thinky thought, and continues, "What about if they wound up here, too? Would it be a better time then?"

"Yes," he says without thinking, "And also more difficult. But those people would..." he trails off.

They may in fact be a natural disaster. Pokemon world is decently advanced in technology, and doesn't closely mirror the world he's from. He ponders this, outwardly holding still and looking remarkably thoughtful and aloof, as if he's untouchable, lost in deep, important considerations.

Most of these include, what would happen when introducing any of them to toilets?

"Be exciting to have around." He concludes in the end.
