[Alright he's figured out how to do video at least. After being ousted from a home that he is pretty sure it got implied he lived in by someone named 'Mom' who certainly isn't his mother or look anything like him. The two toned hair being the one indicator. The fact that he remembers his mother and that this is not his mother is another good indicator.
Or maybe this is the culmination of how many times he's been knocked around. Maybe this is a fever dream.]
Good afternoon everyone.
A local man said he wanted to fight me and then presented a small rat. I think his implication was he wanted me to fight his pet. I don't condone animal abuse so I won't be doing that. However, any time I step near to pass by, he insists I should be battling "him". Each time it's the rat. Does anyone have a number or a contact for a humane society? I don't think I'm comfortable leaving it in his care.
Thank you.
[It takes one or two times of tapping at the screen before he shuts it off, but he gets there.]

[ Who the hell else would be practically shouting into the 'gear with this much enthusiasm and too-sharp teeth? Yeah, Shoto is just basically getting mouth and the fleck of a red eye and red hair. Kirishima is aware you can actually compose yourself to send a video, but he's excited so composure is all out the window. ]

Kirishima you're here too... Where are you? Are you in the village?
[Queue him turning around his camera to show the small starter village.]
This one?

I'm actually a whole continent away from where you are right now. I'm with Midoriya and Bakugou.
But speaking of animals, you probably ought to meet the one you got! Or at least let them out. There ought to be a red and white ball in the bag Mom gave you - just drop it on the ground or press the button on it when you find it!
[ There's a lot to explain about this place but... What is Todoroki's starter??? ]

It's kind of a whole pet-fighting situation around here. They like it, though!
I mean, most of them, anyway.
[One of her own pokemon is very much definitely... not a fighter..]
Video;
They like... fighting? It's legal to let animals and humans fight one another? I have training in hand to hand combat that I'm sure his pet doesn't. If I explain that maybe it will put some reason into his decision.

[Yes, hi, hello, wonderful friendo. Yes another excitable friend of yours has suddenly appeared in the camera of the Gear, looking pleased as punch to see you. Atop her head perches a sleeping...cloud? No, no, it's just a very, very ploofy bird with cottony wings.]

Uraraka... Kirishima is here too. [And it looks like a couple other names popping up even as he's looking on his screen.]

Ah, hello...
[ Battles... she's seen a few of those, and even been challenged a few times. After all, before she met up with Ochako, she'd had to get to Cherrygrove on her own, and a few trainers challenged her, not knowing that she was only six years old because of how Arceus had given her a bit of age-up to ten years old... though changing nothing on the inside. She had, of course, refused them... and the few trainers she came across seemed to get the idea that despite the Galarian Ponyta at her side, she was a bit too timid to continue pressing for a battle.
Then of course, she met up with Ochako... and she's seen her battle, at least! ]
Um... I think, um...
[ ...that doesn't mean she's sure on how to explain it, though. ]

Hello.
[He's not the best of the 1A's with kids, either, he can figure them out as exemplified by a certain class a certain time, but in honesty... his only concern was how much older she looked. None of the others did and it wasn't alarming but a lot of odd things were going on right away.]

Of course you'd hyper focus like that.

It was his exact words. Battle him then insists the battle is with a rat. That's not hyper focus that's topic.

[Dimitri's sleep schedule has sort of been going off the rails again, and so don't mind those bags under his eyes. You know what's more important? Rats.]
[Because he has two.]
[....He has more than two, but with the camera positioned as it is focuses on the pair cradled in his arms: indeed, a large purple rat with a blue collar (and, attached to the collar, a rather plain stone), but also a much tinier while still overly large black rat with a little moustache.]
Oh, no, the rat is no likely very capable of fighting, and could possibly take you out if you decided to fight it, depending on its experience. Gremlin certainly could, after all.
[The purple Rattata preens.]
However, when he speaks of "battle", he is referring to a Paliens battle. [Dimitri do not use that term, this boy is confused as it is-] Have you inspected the pack you were sent out with?
no subject
Cute rat and also gentleman rat. That's what he's come to see here and it's back to 'this is a fevered dream'. His eyes track over the rat that starts preening and assumes this is Gremlin.]
I don't think they could, but I haven't ever fought a rat before. Not a purple one and not one with a moustache. Not in or out of any battle, Paliens or not.
[He also looks over his shoulder when prompted, like that'd give an answer to the question of the bag, and returns said look after the glance.]
Some of it. I went through enough to find a few odd items and a lot of major differences than my own bag.

I'd generally agree, you shouldn't be fighting rats. But the creatures of this world like to fight- it's just friendly sparring, most of the time. The one that you got upon arrival can fight in your stead.
no subject
I don't think a teacup is a good idea to fight anything. They're brittle by nature and it's already got a chip in it. No one's said it's like sparring, though, they're using the term battle. No one gets hurt?

I'm sure others have already answered it, but the battle is really between the rat and whoever your own Pokémon is to start. I'm assuming you only have the one, because you just got here, right?
Video;
They have, but I appreciate your reaffirmation of it. You're right, I just have one... pokemon. [Critter? Bakugo called it critter. A lot of people are calling them names, but Izuku and Kirishima called them Pokemon and what he's read has that in it too so. Here's hoping. In fact, let him heft the tiny teacup back to his shoulder, where it should be so he doesn't step on it.]

Blake is a Good Boy, the Best Boy, but that aside.] Oh, you mustn't worry for the rat- though I do fear for how insistent they are if they've refused to simply allow you past...I should think that after refusal they would be quite fine. Perhaps they're proud of the pokemon?
Regardless, a pokemon battle is more akin to a spar- and quite important to their development, I assure you! For that matter, it will be quite important for your own defense should yo make it much farther than this trainer.
Do trust me! I'm actually a pokemon breeder you see!
[There is a cheerful, happy bark from Blake...who then drags his tongue against his trainer's face.] OH! Yes, I love you too Blake!
RRRRF!
Video;
It's been explained that maybe the gentleman is doing it for my own good. I'd like to pass and my concern about his insistence is a little skewed from my home.
[Huh, alright it can't be coincidence that people all have the same take on this. Maybe he really is doing his tiny teacup a disservice by not letting it fight. The exchange between the man and his dog does actually make a softer look on the teen's face, that's as close to smile as he gets with a stranger, but that's more than a lot of people.]
A breeder? Did you breed your dog?

Hey, Shouto! You don't have to worry about the animal abuse angle. These creatures here - they're called pokémon - are just about as smart as people, even if they can't talk. If that rat didn't want to cooperate, he wouldn't.
Also, you're not supposed to fight the rat. You're supposed to command your own pokémon to fight the rat. It's kind of like having them do a training battle. And they're actually pretty into it. It helps them grow. That's why they pair up with humans - to help them get stronger. As long as their trainers take good care of them, and the pokémon are on board with what you're asking them to do, there's nothing abusive about it.
It's good that you were worried about it, though! Any pokémon you end up taking care of are gonna be in good hands.
Has anybody explained to you that we're not actually in our own world anymore? Because that's a big part of what's tripping you up here. This place operates under some different rules from back home.
Video
Thank you. That's helpful and the clarification I needed. I didn't know what to think if this was just standard, letting dogfights happen in the open daily. I did fight him, my teacup did. We won.
[He's not as monologue-y but he's sure at least glad one of the pros is around. That makes it less likely they won't find a way home. The compliment, too, is a little emboldening and nice to hear. Shoto is going to do his damnedest to protect any of them under his proverbial wing.]
A few of my classmates are here, Midoriya mentioned this is a place called Johto... Someone else said they were from another dimension, but I wasn't sure. Do you mean the rules of raising and fighting with pokemon?
