[When the video feed first starts, it seems like it is filming nothing at all. Just a forest clearing a little after dark. Might this be an accidental recording of some sorts? Ah, no! It does seem to be focusing on something. To be exact, it seems to be focusing on an odd little pokemon, shyly poking it's... head? out of one of the bushes, before scurrying forward to start eating from a small pile of pokemon food left there.]

I hope I am not disturbing anyone this late.

[Armin doesn't pop into view, and his voice is soft, just above a whisper. It looks like he doesn't want to scare the shy little creature.]

Could anyone tell me what pokemon this is? I think my gear might be malfunctioning. [He hopes it isn't though, he wouldn't know how to fix it.] I won't show me any information when I try to scan it. I've not seen one of these on this route before. Is it a rare type?

[He's very curious to say the least.]

It kind of looks like a... a what'sit... oh! A pikachu. Is that it? Actually... it kind of looks like it's wearing a costume.

[Armin lowers the gear again, turning off the camera feed. He switches to the dex, looking up the entry for pikachu, holding one hand over the little speaker, so the sound of the gear won't startle the little creature.

Eren is right, it does look a little like a pikachu, but it doesn't match exactly. The colours seem to be off and it doesn't even have any arms. What is up with that?]

I don't think it is a pikachu. The tail doesn't look right. [Cause it's a stick.] I guess it could be a costume, but would a wild pokemon wear one?

[Eren peers at Armin's dex, looking between the picture and the little creature eating the food] Hm... I guess you're right. It's not the same... Hilda, have you ever seen anything like that?

[she tilts her head and puffs her feathers, looking moderately confused. Nope. All new to her! Eren frowns and goes back to looking at it.

Which is when he notices the creature doesn't actually eat using it's "mouth". No, It's fast, almost too fast to see, but it looks like something is reaching out from under the little costume, grabbing the food, and pulling it underneath] Ah! Armin, look! Watch it eat a little more closely.

[...Ah. Been there, done that, got the slimy dragon to prove it.]

It's likely to be either an illusion or a foreign Pokémon that somehow found its way there. The Pokédex will be of no help to you, but you can learn more about it through using attacks of various types, or with TMs once you catch it.

It's happened before, though the details vary. The Goomies came crawling on a hot February day and were quickly named Bloobers, while Espurrs began raining from the sky the next September. That whole month was filled with new species, as a matter of fact.

Well, it certainly seems to resemble a pichu or pikachu, however it seems likely it's a new type entirely.

Assuming it isn't an ordinary ghost type playing tricks, that is.

[This is a genuine question. Armin still doesn't understand how the gear works. Really, it is too far out of the realm of what he understands to really make a try at it. At this point, he is glad to understand the functions, even if he doesn't understand what goes on inside the little boy.]

Usually, but not always. Sometimes ghosts that are disguising themselves can't be so easily identified. On the other hand, new species have shown up on occasions in the past.

Perhaps it has some power that's disrupting the gear... though I'd be willing to bet it's an entirely new species, albeit one that has camouflaged itself as a native one. What route exactly are you on, exactly? Is there a Pikachu population present already?

[They've been hanging out, training together. They have to get their teams stronger if they want to stand a chance against the first gym leader.]

I don't think there are supposed to be any pikachus here. If there are, I haven't seen any of them yet.

[Armin can't really comment on whether it could disrupt the gear. Technology of that sort is still really far beyond his understanding.]

Hm. You would expect camouflage like that to serve a purpose, but if it isn't for the purpose of blending in... 32, you said? I'm not far from there.

[He should go and inspect things himself. Scratch that, he will go and inspect things himself, because that's how Ford Pines operates. This is an anomaly if he ever saw one (and he's seen an awful lot).]

I think I would like to examine one of these new creatures in person.

It's fine, it's fine.

[It's not terribly late yet, at least not for Kaori who's, for some reason, whispering as well. It quickly becomes clear why she's doing that, though—she's been pressing her finger against camera lens accidentally, but once she realizes that and moves it away, Armin can see the same Pokemon he asked about and a Pikachu. On top of that, they seem to be talking to each other. Or, to be more accurate, Pikachu is making lots of sounds, while the other Pokemon looks like it's listening.]

Doesn't it look like exactly like this one? [She's so helpful...] Sorry, I have no idea what it is, though...I've run out of Pokeballs too, sheesh. And it's so cute, too...this is not my day, I guess. But why don't you try catching it?

[That's very interesting. And probably means it is not a normal ghost pokemon playing a trick, right? After all, why would two very different ghost pokemon in two very different locations be playing the same trick? Perhaps this really is a completely new type of pokemon.]

[With Blitz and Lila finally making friends (or uneasy acquaintances, if Jean is being honest), Jean has more free time, since he's not breaking up Pokemon fights constantly. Lila is much more content than Blitz to stay in her ball, and that's where she is currently, resting in her ball in Jean's pocket. Blitz is off terrorizing someone or something, and Jean is sitting not far from Armin, trying to lure one of the strange little Pokemon over with a piece of candy.]

C'mon, cutie, you know you want one of these...

[The little Pokemon does want one of those, and after much hemming and hawing, darts over and snatches the candy out of Jean's hand, retreating a few steps to eat it.]

Armin! It took the candy!

Have you noticed... it doesn't use its head to eat. Whatever is eating the candy is coming from underneath.

[The person on the other end of the camera right now looks like a ghost himself! A horrible, gaunt, bone white phantasm with tattered clothes...although the fact that it's merely an elaborate costume should become clear as soon as Envy actually speaks. Because he sure doesn't sound like a horrible ghost.]

I don't know what they are, but they sure seem to like that I'm wearing a costume, too. I just sat down on a bench after work and they started poking out of the bushes.

[And the tips of a little pair of cloth Pika-ears do seem to come into the very bottom of the frame. Envy's holding very still; they're still shy, and this is the closest one's actually gotten yet.]

[What a realistic costume. Envy is going to give a few people heart attacks wearing that. Armin, of course, was totally in no way startled when Envy had first popped up on the screen. Yep.]

How strange. Do you know if there are other types of wild pokemon that wear any kind of costume? It seems such unusual behaviour.

It's interesting how nobody knows what they are and yet they are suddenly turning up all over the place. I wonder why.
