[When the video feed first starts, it seems like it is filming nothing at all. Just a forest clearing a little after dark. Might this be an accidental recording of some sorts? Ah, no! It does seem to be focusing on something. To be exact, it seems to be focusing on an odd little pokemon, shyly poking it's... head? out of one of the bushes, before scurrying forward to start eating from a small pile of pokemon food left there.]

I hope I am not disturbing anyone this late.

[Armin doesn't pop into view, and his voice is soft, just above a whisper. It looks like he doesn't want to scare the shy little creature.]

Could anyone tell me what pokemon this is? I think my gear might be malfunctioning. [He hopes it isn't though, he wouldn't know how to fix it.] I won't show me any information when I try to scan it. I've not seen one of these on this route before. Is it a rare type?

[He's very curious to say the least.]

Me and Eren are one route 32.

[They've been hanging out, training together. They have to get their teams stronger if they want to stand a chance against the first gym leader.]

I don't think there are supposed to be any pikachus here. If there are, I haven't seen any of them yet.

[Armin can't really comment on whether it could disrupt the gear. Technology of that sort is still really far beyond his understanding.]

Hm. You would expect camouflage like that to serve a purpose, but if it isn't for the purpose of blending in... 32, you said? I'm not far from there.

[He should go and inspect things himself. Scratch that, he will go and inspect things himself, because that's how Ford Pines operates. This is an anomaly if he ever saw one (and he's seen an awful lot).]

I think I would like to examine one of these new creatures in person.

It looks like they are popping up in other places too.

I had wondered... [He had shared this theory with Jean, but maybe Mr Pines is a better person to discuss these things with.] ...in my world, we have certain type of snakes who aren't venomous themselves, but mimic the appearance of venomous snakes to discourage predators from attacking them. Could it be they are trying to do something similar? Electric types are quite strong. Maybe they are trying to mimic the appearance of one to discourage other pokemon from attacking it.

[Ah, now there's a thought.]

That very well could be the case! Especially given that from all reports thus-far they are apparently incredibly shy and docile. If they don't have naturally high Defense then perhaps a disguise is the next best thing.

Right. Though I suppose the fact that they are showing up in areas even without pikachu might discredit that theory. But maybe this one is lost?

They may be smart enough to realize that next to an actual pikachu their disguise is unlikely to hold up, and be looking to establish themselves without competition?

[Though that does kind of defeat the point... hm. Pokemon sure are weird.]

Lost, I could believe.

Someone told me it could be a pokemon from another region. Maybe... someone brought them here and released them?

[Though Armin couldn't exactly think of a reason why someone would do that.]

Perhaps... though for what purpose I can't possibly imagine. Nothing good ever comes of releasing an invasive species, especially one that fills a niche already filled by another animal already.

I suppose we should consider the idea that someone released them without good intentions.

[Overall, this world is very nice, but Armin can't imagine there aren't some less upstanding citizens in this world as well. Perhaps they don't hold as much sway as they do in his, but that sort of thing is part of the human nature, isn't it?]

Of course it is not good to assume malice where ignorance could cover just as much. Perhaps someone released them not knowing what sort of damage they might could do. Though that still leaves us guessing for a motive as to why.
