i. mom's house

[ waking up in a stranger's home is one thing. it's another thing to be surrounded by all sorts of strangers in a stranger's home. rock had to muffle a scream, managing to keep himself together as to not look like a weirdo, but his face says it all. dear lord, what the hell was all this??? ]

I have... so many questions right now.

[ though he doubts anyone will answer him. rock makes his way to the kitchen, trying to keep to himself, especially as he makes his way through "mom's" pantry. he tries not to make the most noise, even though he does indeed bump into people on occasion. if he does, all you get is a mumbled 'sorry'. ]

ii. new bark town

[ he's one of the last people to leave mom's house, and he can't help but wonder what was that all about. sure, seeing people was one thing, but seeing swarms of creatures attacking said strangers and all the cries of "i missed you too" made the teen feel just all the more confused. but he doubts most people would give him any sort of day, if they were like the people he met in the KOF tournaments.

the only exceptions to that were shun'ei and isla, and even his own teammates. so there he was, in his own little corner, looking at a growlithe with a neutral look. ]

Looks like you're the little guy whose stuck with me, huh? [ a small smile. ] Welcome to team Garou, little guy.

[ a bark of approval. rock already likes his new pokemon. ]

iii. route 29

[ rock follows the crowd for the most part. he keeps to the back of the pack, really trying his best to look casual, as if he knew what he was doing for the most part. he doesn't, but acting the part was the key to actually learning. he has his nose stuffed into the trainer handbook, but... a lot of things still fly over his head. ]

So we catch these pokemon, to train them and make sure they... get stronger? So we're teachers?

[ he's still trying to make heads or tails on the entire thing. ]

... You don't know at least some self defense? [ if rock didn't sounded surprised, it was written all over his face. he spares a glance at the growlithe. he knew the thing was powerful, but to almost kill someone? yikes. but he feels even worse for the stranger. that ain't good at all, honestly.

but also... he crouches down to the growlithe, petting it with a sigh. ]

I had a feeling you were just looking out for me. Thank you.

[ a bark. yep, looking out for his new friend! ]

[ Come on, Kaiba might be pathetic but not by That Much. He sighs. ]

It was some kind of lion with electricity powers. It paralyzed me, I couldn't escape. The Pokémon in Hisui were incredibly powerful and attacked at the slightest provocation.

[ But he leans on Zephyra the Rapidash and sighs quietly. ]

I've heard that people who had enhanced abilities like 'magic' and flight and eye lasers no longer have them here. It's some kind of enforced law of the world that only Pokémon have special powers. We're supposed to rely on them.

[ rock wanted to accept that answer, he really did, but his world revolved around fighting. it was kind of insane that no one would know at least how to properly defend oneself. but he doesn't voice it-- instead, he keeps an eyebrow raised for a moment before deciding it's not worth it, because both hearing the stranger's stories, plus the fact that he had no longer had powers was way more important. ]

... no wonder I haven't felt a thing since waking up here... [ he's thinking out loud, but rock continues as if he didn't. ] But I suppose that does line up to what you said. So I'm assuming you'll be riding that horse to get out of this town?

[ man, why didn't he get that lucky? ]

[ Zephyra seems to perk up at the extra attention. She leans in to nuzzle Kaiba's cheek, and he pats her gently. Remarkable, how much she's warmed up to him in the last few weeks. ]

Her name's Zephyra. Her species is called Rapidash, and they're said to be some of the fastest running Pokémon. She can even control the heat of her flames, so I can ride her without burning.

[ Yes, he's grown fond of her. But this poor man doubtlessly has more questions...and so he takes out his new Poké Gear to check on the pup's dex entry. Yes, it's a Growlithe, and it evolves into a form similar to the Arcanine he's already seen. ]

Your Growlithe should evolve into a form large enough to ride once he's trained. Some trainers with larger birds and dragons can even fly on their Pokémon, and some of the larger aquatic types can sail across the waters. But flying and surfing require special respect earned by battling gym leaders and winning, apparently.

[ Yeah, the look on his face says that doesn't make sense to him. ]

[ the rapidash really catches his attention now. fastest pokemon? it's really cool to hear that it can do that, actually. but something else caught his attention. ] Is it common to nickname pokémon, or can we call them as is?

[ but moving on to the other topic on hand-- one which kaiba's annoyance is shared. ]

Wouldn't it be easier to prove that you can control them instead of going through the gyms? [ that sounds like a bigger pain than getting his motorcyclist's license, and he worked hard for that one...! ] Thanks for giving me a fair warning, at least.

Most people use nicknames for situations where there are multiple Pokémon of the same species, but it's not required.

[ He nods his agreement. ]

It's ridiculous. We've survived battles with powerful and dangerous Pokémon, it should be enough. But the gym challenge is apparently one of the most popular sport pastimes around here, so I'll have to do it. It's a way to earn money, fame, and respect.

Huh, so like the fighting tournaments back home... [ it's an interesting thought. plus it was still a challenge. ] I'm assuming that you plan on taking on the gym challenge?
