[The 'gear view opens upon a vast expanse of those peculiarly textured magazines you can find in plastic stands on street corners, listing in vaguely blurry text various selling points of real estate. The view lifts, and you can see it's not so much a vast expanse as it is just a tabletop covered with them. Across the way from the person holding the 'gear is G'rhyf Kett, focused on a column of offers in one of the magazines, and the camera lingers for a moment on the image of their concentrated visage before they blink and look up, a bit bewildered before their nose crinkles and they chuckle.]

What're you doing, Raha?

[A sheepish laugh comes from behind the camera.] A thought occurred to me, is all - would you indulge me for a moment?

Just a moment?

Y-Yes, just a moment. [With a clearing of the throat, G'raha turns his 'gear around. He looks a bit tired, eyes reddish...well, besides his irises, I mean. It's likely he's been thumbing through real estate periodicals for hours to get that kind of look to him.] G'rhyf and I have been engaging in...well, I suppose it could be the closest thing to what adventurers like to call "Housing: Savage" - jovially of course - on our star. We thought, since we have both been designated as breeders, that it was only right we have a dedicated space for that - a sort of ranch, perhaps? Not the kind that's a one-level house in a neighborhood, but one with a field and some natural points of interest. Someplace where our Pokemon feel comfortable and at ease.

Yeah, now if only we could pick someplace...

Exactly, therein lies the problem - even with the scope of our search limited to two regions of this world, we simply cannot decide what area would be best. So...I thought, would we not benefit by asking the opinion of others who have been here longer? Who, say, might already have their own similar homes? Where would you elect to have such a ranch?

Please do, I don't want to read the thousandth specification of a building only to find it's absolutely impossibly expensive - that and, this paper is incredibly shoddy. G'rhyf, your hands aren't covered in ink, are they?

Ah...well...I imagine wide open spaces would be more ideal in the long run. But the ability to go to a town or city and purchase necessities and supplies is important...I would say, somewhere in between? But I feel so...[G'raha frowns, furrowing his brow.] What's the word...something like...I'm assuming far too much, or expecting too much, if I pin it down to a specific type of location and don't allow for compromise.

In between definitely sounds good - my family's over near Vermillion, though not quite in the city, and that's worked out pretty well for us.

Hmm... well, I'd agree that it's best to be open to compromise, but I don't see anything wrong with having specifics in mind to start with. Potentially, you could put together a list of things you want, and organize it by priority...?

A sorted list would likely make things much less complicated.

[He scribbles down that idea right then and there! Hey when someone gives you a good idea you don't want to forget it.]

I do hope this doesn't end in us becoming overwhelmed and further confused in an attempt to alleviate such things...

Yyyeah, that's the real struggle with this stuff, huh. [God knows Grant's fallen into some rabbitholes of his own trying to sort out a problem.] But I take full responsibility if you guys end up losing hours to runaway list-sorting.

Hah, that's a very kind offer! But if we end up in such a predicament, we are the only ones to blame for taking it too far.

Fair, fair. Well, I wish you guys the best of luck with it; it's... really nice, finally having somewhere you can actually call your own.

...Mm, you know, it...does sound nice. To have a place like that again. I like travel and being on the move, but a home you can come back to...everyone must need something like that.

I absolutely agree. And, hey - once you have somewhere to stay, there's no reason you can't still go out and travel anyway.

Well, not here, at least, with finances and stuff being less of a concern than they were where I'm from.

Oh, yes, of course - travel is as ubiquitous here as it was in Eorzea. At least adventuring in this world is somewhat less perilous...

[...All Grant can think when G'raha says that is about how much of the wildlife here can breathe fire and how many of the stinging insects are like three feet tall.]

Less... perilous? What's it like where you're from?

Well, for one, you cannot capture or befriend the beasts you encounter, and many more people you might meet on the road are likely to be your adversary rather than a possible new friend. Settlements are limited in what they have to offer, whereas cities here, and even towns, seem to have everything you might need before you set off again. Oh, and the politics isn't nearly as messy here.

Oooh. Jeez, yeah, I can see that being, uh... way worse. Wow.

[Roads full of monsters that you can't just make friends with, or be defended from by your other monster friends? Alarming!]

It's why adventurers are so ubiquitous, and honestly well-needed - to see the things no one else has seen, to lay low the beasts no one else can best, to discover the treasures hidden by time...I like to think they make things better wherever they go. In my observed experience, at least, they do.

Oh, yeah, I could see that... like, if it's just universally known that trying to travel... just about anywhere is going to put you at risk of being attacked, I can, uh. See the need for people who make it their business to reduce that risk.

I guess... off the top of my head, closest thing we've got where I'm from is that, in some parts of the world, it's pretty standard for tourists to hire guides to show them around - potentially armed guides, if it's somewhere with dangerous wildlife.

Taking on bodyguard positions is definitely something adventures do as well, albeit usually temporarily. I suppose one could do a similar thing here as well, if their team of Pokemon are known to be reliable.

Makes sense - and, man, that's a good point. Even having your own, uh... battle animal only helps so much if you're just starting out, huh? Could be a good way for newbies to check places out that they'd struggle to get around in otherwise.

It would certainly make exploration easier.

Right! Trying to get around some areas here is a nightmare if you're not prepared... Guess that's something people could pick up as a business.

...Definitely not me, though, I'm... not much of a battler. Someone else can give that a shot.

Ah...oddly enough, I haven't really done much proper battling myself. Save for Galuf quite literally barging into danger headfirst out of the goodness of his heart to keep me safe, I don't seem to find the time for it. And, if truth be told, my Pokemon and I...hm. I would say things are comfortable between us, without some need for greater power.

[Like normally he'd rather be able to protect them himself, but he accepts that this world has limits and rules.]

Yeah? That's completely fair, I think - I mean, maybe I'm biased, there, given the aforementioned... not battling much thing. Some people really love it, but for some, like us, it's just not our thing.

I'm not really opposed to it, we just haven't found a reason to pursue it.

[A pause.]

And...I am far more used to being able to protect myself with my own power, rather than relying on another's. So, in a way, it is still somewhat...unusual.

Oh, huh... were you a combatant yourself where you're from, then?

You could say I was a bit of an all-rounder on that front, yes.
