01 - Deep Space Pokemon Action!

a. Somewhere on Route 29

[Well, after the... thrilling start that Vash had back in New Bark Town, he finds that he's ready for a bit of normalcy. Sure, the trees are a little out of the ordinary considering where he's spent most of his life, but being on the road and constantly moving? That's normal enough. Getting attacked by weird creatures? Also pretty normal! Proceeding to run from said creatures? Yeah, you get the idea.

But while Vash may be used to running away instead of fighting, his companion isn't. She knows the rules of this world, and before Vash can get too far, she's already knocked out the poor Spearow that was pursuing them.

Which is why you might come across Vash, seated up against a tree, calmly lecturing the little creature.]

Now I know you were just trying to be a good friend, but you can't go around attacking creatures like that. He was just defending his territory — nothing wrong with that.

[Sure, the Pokemon are only unconscious and will recover well enough. And yes, he's done the same in the name of self-defense. But after a century of doing his best to stay his hand, it still feels uncomfortable to lift it once more, even if these creatures don't necessarily fall within the bounds of his promise.]


b. Cherrygrove City

[Somehow, the duo manages to make their way to Cherrygrove without much issue. Yes, a few more creatures get knocked out along the way, but at least they seem to have come to an understanding about it. Which is why Vash is more than happy to reward the little Mimikyu when they finally reach civilization.]

It hardly seems fair for you to be walking around with a rag on. [Vash clutches a small tube of fabric, red not unlike his own jacket. It's safety pinned in the back to make a pseudo dress.] Now, why don't we get that peeled off and put you into something nice?

[And that is precisely when Vash reaches down to pull the Mimikyu's rag up. Will you help him? Or are you about to watch a man suffer?]

c. Network (video)

[One way or another, Vash does somehow manage to survive his encounter with the Mimikyu's true visage! Still, it's left him feeling a bit... curious. He fixes his camera on the Mimikyu as she toddles around, speaking from behind it.]

Are all of these creatures so... quirky? Mine doesn't really like to be seen without her, uh... clothes, I guess? Do they all have little traits like that, or is mine just special?

Thank you. And yes, Alola is a tropical island chain in this world. It's quite a ways from here, but it is where this variation of Ninetales and its pre-evolution Vulpix were first documented. The Kantonian Vulpix and Ninetales are Fire types, while Alolan Vulpix is a pure Ice type and evolves into the Ice-Fairy Alolan Ninetales.

[His eyes are glazing over, just a little. It's not that he doesn't want to hear it — he finds the idea interesting, certainly! There's just too many names and facts being thrown around in one jumble.]

So... How did they get here?

Most Pokemon are either found in the wild or specifically bred by trainers. For the ones that we arrive... I'd... actually assumed they came from one of those sources, but that is a good question.

[Maybe the "Mom" just has a steady supply of mons, maybe it's Arceus. And of course who knows where Team Rockets gets Mons for new recruits, but she has no idea about that process.]

[Vash might have issues focusing, but he doesn't hold it against Allura! It's just a little much for him at the moment.]

Sure, I get that. [Mostly...] But the ones from another place — Alola, right? They'd have to get here somewhere? Unless we can go there?

[Just how big is this place, anyway?]

Not necessarily. Pokemon from other regions have been found in the wild of the main three regions we live in: Kanto, Johto, and the Sevii Islands. For example, Alolan Vulpixes can be found in the Ice Cave on Four Island. Although on occasions, tours to different regions are offered for short times.

[And sometimes some hack of a paleontologist breaks the space-time continuum and drags you along with her.]

Right. Okay.

[Migration is normal. Maybe not on No Man's Land, but he's familiar enough with the concept.]

So... three regions. [He counts this out on his fingers for Allura to see.] But also more? Since we can tour other ones? [A pause.] Only tour?

[Allura goes into whatever IC reasons there might be for the separation.]

That explains it... ah, pardon, but I don't remember getting your name?

[Leave it to Vash to ask the really annoying questions, honestly. But hey, he's contented by the answer!]

Oh, right! You can call me Vash. Vash the Stampede is the full title but... Just Vash works here, I think!

... The Stampede?

[Yeah, should she be concerned?]

Oh, uh... You know how disaster just seems to follow some people?

[He gives an innocent wave of his fingers.] Guilty as charged.

Just a couple of destroyed buildings here and there... and maybe a wiped out town.

But hey, you gotta understand! I wasn't the one doing it! Bounty Hunters just really love me!

And the bounty hunters were chasing you because...?

Well... probably the $$6 Million bounty on my head, for starters...?

[Okay, she was asking WHAT the bounty was for, but... that is a big number. Doubled???]

[Okay she WANTED to ask it more delicately than that, but it just slipped out!]

Nothing! At first!

[He is waving his hands in front of the camera like a madman.]

Someone else started doing it first! My twin! And they thought it was me. So then people wanted my bounty and I had to get out of the way, but then they'd break things and the bounty would get higher! So more bounty hunters would come after me and my brother kept stealing Plants, and -

All right, all right.

[She holds up her own hands in a "please calm down" motion. He SOUNDS sincere, at least.]

I have no idea how stealing flora factors into this, but... as long as you don't cause trouble in this world, and none of your hunters show up here, you should be fine.

Who said anything about flora?

[Plants are VERY different than flora, thank you very much, Allura.

Wait, no. He's getting distracted again.]

I don't think anyone's followed me? No one's said anything about it, at least! And besides, my gun was gone when I got here so they won't have any of theirs, right? It'll all be okay! Promise!

You mentioned stealing plants?

[She does relax a bit at the rest of his spiel.]

Good. [A soft smile.] A good portion of us brought to this world have grown fond of it and the lives we live here, myself included. I want to keep it safe.

[oleaeuropaea]

Yeah, Plants! [He tries to place enough enunciation on the word to indicate the capital letter. Not that it helps anything.] Different than Flora!

[Still, his expression softens. He nods gently.]

This is the nicest place I've rested my head in some time. I don't want to see any harm come to it either.

I... think that Plant might mean something different to you. Would you mind defining it, please?

Oh. Right. Guess that lingo might not be for everyone.

Plants are generators. They can create gravity fields, electricity, clean water, all of that sort of stuff. Flora is your standard greenery that you would have found on Old Earth!

[heartofalioness]

Oh! That sort of plant. Then... are they easily portable?

[How does one steal a whole plant.]

Noooot particularly. Which just goes to show how hard it would be for a guy like me to steal them!

[He lifts an arm and flexes it. Which... shows off absolutely nothing, considering the fact that his jacket sleeve is still covering his arm!]

[... Yeah just... gonna raise an eyebrow at that. One of her best friends is a deceptively strong noodle, and Alteans have super strength when they're not nerfed by Arceus.]
