Event: The Reveal Glass

Across the Pokémon world, characters may have spotted a falling star last night. Or at least, one would think that's what it was: a naturally occurring phenomenon, rather than a legendary artifact. Specifically, the Reveal Glass fell to earth during a fight among a group of legendaries started by the return of a long-lost family member. But it's probably best to leave them to handle all that themselves, while your characters deal with other consequences.
The Reveal Glass shattered upon impact, and the shards scattered throughout Kanto, Johto, and the Sevii Islands… And made their way into the hearts of your characters. But bleeding isn't the concern here. Instead, the impact will hit when a character first looks into any reflective service. An eerie feeling hits them as they're transported to the Mirror Dimension.
While this realm can be many different things for different characters, one thing is always true: It is a place of honesty, where true selves are revealed. Those struck by a shard will find themselves facing truths they are no longer able to hide, and now must accept. Fortunately enough, even those who haven't been struck will be able to enter the Mirror Dimension during this event via a reflective surface to offer help. By the end of the 29th, things will return to normal. Characters will be back in the usual Pokémon world and their hearts will be rid of the shards, but time is strange in the Mirror Dimension, and the experience may feel like it goes on far longer than a day. Or, maybe that's just the emotional exhaustion.
The Reveal Glass plot is here. You can swing by the event info post for additional details and FAQ, and play out your characters’ enforced therapy on this post. As with most VR events, this plot is entirely optional and your characters don't need to take part at all.

[Ryan seems a little surprised that he's even being asked, or that someone would still think his messing around with a cover sounded good.]
It's one of their B-Sides from All Over the Place. ...."He's Got A Secret."
[He at least has the self-awareness to look sheepish about that. Now that he's saying it out loud, it feels pretty obvious why he can't get it out of his head.]
no subject
Didn't they make the song about Egyptians? [NAILED IT.]
[The sheepish look, the actual title - yeah. He's getting the picture here. A pretty clear picture.] I haven't heard that one before, though, I don't think.
[And he's going to try and tread as carefully as he can.]
no subject
It's super underrated. A lot of their music is.
[He's still a little low, but it's the most normal he's sounded so far. He loves music so much that it cuts through the haze.]
...Do you wanna hear it?
no subject
In my defense, I think they were way... way before my time, man.
[Maybe even a century. We don't know how far in the future he's from.]
Yeah. Of course I do. Go for it.
no subject
He considers his options after Shiro tells him he wants to hear the song. Hesitantly he plucks a couple of chords, but he already knows it isn't right. He shakes his head a little and pushes himself up to his feet.]
Hang on. It's supposed to be more...
[He snaps his fingers while he's trying to think like his brain's an empty lighter, but the word escapes him. It just needs to be...more.
So, he takes a couple of steps back and pulls the theater mask over his face. And it changes him, injects him with an unnatural energy very suddenly. His face can't be seen through the eye and mouth holes, but they move with each word and expression - all of which indicate over the top cheer that's downright unsettling. Did you know Ryan could smile that much, for that long?
But it's the energy he needed, and the notes are more electric. His fingers can move even faster, and when he sings it's even more cheery than the song calls for, but it's better than accidentally turning it into a minor key funeral dirge, right?]
Oooooh
There he goes
Everybody's watchin'
Everybody knows
Something's goin' on
It certainly shows
When he's got a secret for you!
It's there when he walks
It's there when he smiles
He kisses your cheek
And disappears for a while
Nothin' in the world's
Gonna cramp his style
If only he could keep it from you!
Oh I, don't believe that
You haven't seen by now (seen by now)
Don't look at me
'Cause I'll never tell~!

[When the music starts to slow down to the end, he gets to his feet. Stepping closer. This might... not be the best idea. It might not be the smartest idea. But still.]
[He's too worried.]
Ryan. [His left hand extends. To try and gently move the mask aside.] You don't have to do this.
no subject
Sure I do! It's an upbeat song! It's not going to sound right if I sing it all mopey and depressed!
[He doesn't take the mask off but he adjusts it a little, as if just the thought of removing it pushed it out of place.]
Seriously, it's no big deal! You totally don't need to worry about it!
no subject
[Judging from how much resignation is in his voice, that's not a good thing. The look on his face matches, too - suddenly weary, years older. Worried.]
So I'm going to worry. [He doesn't reach again, but he does hold his hands out.] About you. Not how the song sounds. That doesn't matter to me.
And I get it - if you're performing for an audience, then yeah, it has to sound right, but. Ryan, it's just me.
no subject
Shiro's concern and sincerity is enough for him to reach up and push the mask to the side of his head again, revealing his real face beneath. He isn't smiling, but he seems kind of sheepish and ashamed. Without the mask on, his energy levels have swung back down into the negatives]
...Sorry. I just put on a show for whoever's here. I didn't want to like...freak you out.
no subject
[Even if he is... Ryan doesn't need to know.]
It's okay. [Immediate, earnest, as soon as the mask literally slips.] This whole thing is pretty freaky. You'd have to be ... extra freaky to be worse.
It's still just you. I'm pretty okay with Ryan.
no subject
...I'm used to it.
[He hasn't been able to lie about his feelings without the mask on either, so it's the truth. It isn't unsettling to him by this point - it feels routine.]
You haven't known me that long though. ...How do you know you're really okay with "Ryan"?
[Especially since he's definitely worn some version of this mask around him before, even if it wasn't so literal then.]
no subject
[But Ryan probably needs more of an answer than that. He probably deserves one, too. He doesn't like the "I'm Used To It". It reminds him way too much of himself. And that's not good.]
On the other hand - I'm not going to get much of a chance to figure it out, if all I ever see is a mask, am I?
[Hopefully, that's a better answer. There's enough hope, optimism, in the question, to make amends for not having a solid yes or no.]
no subject
...True.
[It's enough of a truth that Ryan takes a few steps to close the gap between them, a small sign that he's at least thinking about making that effort.]
I'm...supposed to be using this less. [He gestures up to the mask.] But I screwed up, and I picked it back up over something stupid. And being here just means everyone gets to know how much of a screw-up I actually am.
no subject
You made a mistake. [No reason to deny it. That won't actually help anything here.] Everyone does. Everyone slides back into old habits sometimes.
[He's one to talk.]
That's all I see. Someone who just made a mistake - but knows it. That's... harder a lot of the time than anything else.
no subject
I shouldn't still be making mistakes like this though, especially over something so dumb...I'm just going to keep screwing up like this over and over and that so shitty.
[It's shitty of him and shitty for anyone else to have to deal with - shitty for Shiro to have to deal with, but without the mask on the words just tumble out.]
no subject
[He says it almost apologetically. Like this is somehow his fault. That Ryan's issue is due to something he'd done.]
I say that all the time - to myself. [He'd said it about himself even recently. Privately. To Allura. To Dimitri.] Maybe not about what you're going through... but still.
People keep telling me "it takes time". That telling myself I "should be over it"... it just makes it harder to go forward.
no subject
[He frowns, trying to figure out the words he wants.]
...that's dumb. People don't just get over stuff. They just sort of stuff it down where no one can see it anymore.
[Or, you know. They talk about it. But that isn't really on the table of either of them most of the time, is it? Ryan sighs.]
I mean...how many times can a person talk something out with someone before they get sick of them?
no subject
[But there it is, Ryan nailing the problem he has so often. How long before people get sick of hearing about your issues? How long before they decide you're too much for them. That they don't want to listen anymore.]
[How long before they decide they're done?]
But they keep telling me to talk. Even though I don't feel like it changes much.
no subject
[They're both sort of dancing around what their specific problems are, but a connection's been made. Someone gets how hard it is.]
...Most of the time people get sick of me. Min-Gi doesn't now and I know that, but...
[He shrugs.]
It's dumb. It shouldn't freak me out this much anymore. It shouldn't be scary to like...talk about stuff, I mean.
no subject
[But that's the heart of it, isn't it? That if they talk about their issues, even what those issues are, it will backfire. Won't it?]
Just because it 'shouldn't' doesn't mean it stops. Doesn't mean it doesn't get out of your head.
And I know... I can say that I'm not sick of you at all, but, that doesn't erase it either, does it?
no subject
No. But it's not you or anything. Everyone's gotten sick of me at one point or another so, you know. Like, literally everyone, so. Odds are...
[He waves a hand, not really feeling up to finishing that thought out loud. Shiro can probably tell where he was going.]
no subject
Everyone I've ever... been with leaves. Literally leaves here. So...
[The smile is still there, still as empathetic.] So I get the feeling. Why bother trying, yeah?
no subject
He could go deeper into it, outline his parents and all his exes and everyone who's ever treated him like he wasn't worth sticking around for. But...he thinks about that question. Why bother?
There's only one honest answer, even if he thinks it's a little pathetic of him to admit.]
...Because being alone sucks.
no subject
[It's a short, quiet little huff of a laugh. Not even really a real one. He's not laughing at Ryan. Far from it.]
[He reaches out, and clasps him on the shoulder, gently.]
Yeah. Yeah, it really does.
