[There is a pile of eggs on the screen. It is a very large and colorful pile of eggs. Isn't it enchanting?]

My team has generously decided to spread their talents once more. Would anyone like to benefit from it?

[Cecil does not sound enchanted, for some reason. Maybe it's because he cannot see his bed anymore?]

I'll take P1500 for most of the eggs, with the Magikarps and the Caterpies at a third of the price. I'm also willing to trade for eggs or young specimen of the more recent or uncommon species.

[Wasn't emptying his reserve of eggs the whole point, though...?]

How...many Pokemon do you have in your care to end up with that many eggs?

[He sounds fascinated, honestly, because dear God that is a lot of eggs. A part of him wants to know every single type you have there, Cecil.]

I've recently reached the eighty Pokémon mark, though I train more than one specimen of certain species. Then again, I am a trainer; if I was a breeder, I'd easily have twice as many eggs.

[Which is precisely why he is not a breeder.]

Now I'm a bit worried about what may happen if I decide to try my hand at breeding certain species. And eighty--that's quite a lot of Pokemon. I take it you've been here for some time?

I'm not. I'm merely... blessed with an affectionate team that is aware of its strength, and wishes to share it with the world.

[That is the most polite way he can put it.]

I've been here for nearly seven years, and have been accumulating or inheriting new Pokémon the whole time. You'll not have nearly as many eggs unless you deliberately capture every species you see, during your first few years.

[That actually gets a chuckle out of Newt.]

A good survival strategy in the wild and in the care of another, for sure.

I don't intend to capture many Pokemon at all, if I'm going to be honest. I'm more interested in study and learning all I can about the various species. Battling, while I understand is something they are fond of, isn't really something I have interest in.

Battling and catching them is an excellent method of study, but I understand it's not for everyone. I must warn you, however, that your team might not always take your own preferences into account.

At this rate, you may need to consider a second home.

[It comes out in a slightly teasing tone--at least as much of one as Newt knows how to use.]

Oh, I know. Queenie, my initial partner, seems content with the idea of just raising Pokemon that we take into our care and Merlin, an injured Starly I encountered, most likely won't stay long term. I'm rather content to let them come and go as they please.

It's a future and not so distant possibility, yes.

[Well, a Gym is, but that should count as a second home for space-related matters.]

You'd rather treat your partnerships as potentially temporary collaborations, rather than adoptions? I cannot say I've seen it before, but perhaps it'll make you popular with wild Pokémon. It might ensure a healthy species rotation, when you decide to take up breeding.

I don't mind the idea of adoptions in the case of something like this--eggs that is. But I'd rather they decide to accompany me, I suppose. That's how I came to travel with many of the creatures I had in my care back home. A few I did purposefully take due to them being in danger but I preferred they choose to come along.

Thank you. It is said that Pokémon attack humans to test said humans' worth and to prove their own, which would suggest that every Pokémon that attacks you is willing to travel by your side should you be worthy. Still, making it a dialogue could help in avoiding inter-team rivalries.

Yes I am a bit worried about that but I suppose I'll just have to see what happens. It can't really be any worse than a Graphorn or Dragon. Kappas were rather nasty little creatures too when they wanted to be..

...This world has plenty of dragons of its own, but as they are unlikely to kill or maim other living creatures their presence does not doom a team. It'S the Ghost- and Dark-types you must watch out for.

Ah, yes. Ghosts are rather tricky creatures, aren't they? The ones that lived in the school I attended were a mixed lot. Some were very easy to get on with while others were a bit more of a hassle. Never satisfied unless they were causing a bit of mischief.

They lived in your school, you say, interesting. The ones in my world only show themselves in times of great need, while the local Ghost-types favor either the wilderness or abandoned buildings. Surely dealing with mischievous ghosts while studying has an impact on the students' work?

Hogwarts was a bit of a safe haven, I suppose you could say. Many ghosts were able to freely wander around and do as they pleased there because everyone knew of their existence. Most ghosts just want to continue not-living their lives the way they want to. We..did have a few that were a bit too much to handle, especially when studying, but there were ways to distract them.

...I'll admit, the thought of a dead spirit wishing to simply keep existing as before is strange to me. Perhaps that is because ghosts are so rare in my world, and only appear when they have no other choice... Still, the mischievous ones are far easier for me to understand.

Understandable, I suppose. But there's no reason that a ghost wouldn't want a normal life, is there? Things do continue after you die so you might as well make the best of it.

I suppose it would make sense in worlds where ghosts are active daily. Or, well, in worlds where they are not the spirits of the dead so much as their own branch of species.

Well, they are indeed spirits of the dead, at least where I come from. Many of the ghosts in Hogwarts were either professors or students at one time. Even the founders have been said to haunt the school though I don't know how true that is myself.

I can understand while a school's founder would want to watch over it even in death, but teachers and students... It must offer a particularly impressive education.

I believe it's more that it's a place where people aren't afraid of them. It's a safe space, I suppose. And some of the ghosts still teach and work at the school even as they are.

...Do they teach the same material they knew while they lived, or do they update their lessons over the years? I'd rather not imagine some poor student studying the same collection of classic poems for years...

No, no, they do update their curriculum to match the times but history is a rather important part of the magical community. So having individuals around that lived during those times is quite nice.

...Learning the names of the kings of Baron in chronological order would surely have been more pleasant, had my tutor known them well enough to share personal anecdotes. The opportunity to learn from one who has lived through history is certainly priceless.

It made history classes much easier to bear, I will say that much. Not many students agreed but I found it particularly interesting. Not as interesting as care of magical creatures but it was good information to have all the same.
