ROCKET BATTLE LOG
As the clock nears 10 PM on Saturday, the manor (or the parts of it that people aren’t blocked off from, anyway) is completely abuzz with speculation and gossip. What could Lance possibly be planning to announce? And why haven’t any of the Elite Four even been around? They’re fairly reclusive, but it’s safe to say that everyone is at least a little curious, if not actively suspicious.
But it’s time for the big reveal, so manor staff are bustling around, reminding everybody to be in the ballroom in a few minutes for Lance’s important unveiling of… well, whatever it is he’s unveiling! The staff all seem pretty excited, so it must be big, right?
There’s been plenty of room to dance and move around in the Ballroom until now, but with everybody packed in there at once, the space is a little tighter. Especially with the small stage and podium set up in the middle. As the last (or seemingly last, assuming there aren’t any carefree stragglers who didn’t bother turning up on time) person is ushered in by staff, complete with whispers of "Psst! Hurry up, it’s almost time!", the door to the ballroom is shut and the lights dim slightly, sending a hush over the audience.
After some fumbling from whoever’s in charge of the lights (... wait, is that Captain Garfield and his Rattata up there? He’s a theater tech too?! That guy must REALLY be a jack of all trades!), a spotlight flips on and centers on the podium, where the head staffer (who might be recognized as the one with the terrible hipster mustache who’s been doing a PARTICULARLY egregious amount of schmoozing and sucking-up to trainers over the course of the party) is stepping up to the podium.
He clears his throat.
"Welcome, welcome, ladies and gentlemen! On behalf of the Elite Four, we’re all so happy you could join us! We hope you’ve all been having as good a time as we have, because I’ve got to say, I think this is our best party yet!"
He looks around at the assembled trainers eagerly, as though anticipating unanimous agreement.
When there’s an impatient buzz (and a shout of "Get on with it already!" from someone) instead, he laughs awkwardly.
"Oh, yes, well, we’re all here for one reason, right? To see what Lance has brought you all here for! Well, folks, as you can see, he’s not here with us right now… He’s had a bit of a-- how shall we say… an accident! So sad, I know! But fortunately, he’s graciously allowing us to make his announcement for him. Which is…"
On cue, the spotlight turns stark red. If anyone has the presence of mind to look, Captain Garfield's Rattata is holding a bit of red plastic filter in front of it.
But chances are, everyone’s attention is probably going to stay on the stage, because the guy at the podium literally just RIPPED HIS CLOTHING OFF DRAMATICALLY, revealing… yes… a very, very familiar black-and-red uniform underneath.
It’s followed immediately by more ripping sounds as other staff and even some partygoers scattered throughout the audience follow his lead, and the telltale noises and flashing of Pokemon being released from their balls. And many voices, all yelling at once...
"PREPARE FOR TROUBLE! AND MAKE IT DOUBLE!!"
The music shifts.
OOC Notes: The number of characters who must participate in the battle to call it a success is 37! In order to keep track, once you have made your first comment to this post (either a toplevel or a tag to someone else!), please bring it to the CHECK IN THREAD by 10 PM EST tomorrow! YOUR COMMENT MUST BE POSTED TO THIS THREAD IN ORDER FOR IT TO COUNT TOWARDS THE TOTAL.
GUESS WHAT GUYS?
OOC notes: Here it is, the part where your characters get to explore the Rocket Base and discover its secrets! Maps of each level will be posted in this top post as they are opened up, with blacked out sections being revealed as obstacles are cleared. Obstacle clearing will be based on total comment count to any mod comment with a count listed, whether those comments are contained in a single thread or spread out over multiple different ones. As many people can comment to an obstacle or base level as wish to, for as long as they want, even after it has been cleared. There are a total of two obstacles (including the first one) which are triggered by character actions we will be watching for!
Anyone who wants to thread anything out in the base or mansion during the time characters are trapped (and who doesn't want to use this log for whatever reason) is free to make their own network/action posts with whatever they like! But mods will not be coming around to those with interaction, and they will not count towards clearing obstacles.
Questions? Ask them HERE!
NOTE FOR ITEM RNG: In order for the mods to give out your item, your character must be actively looking through the loot piles in whatever tag you'd like us to respond to with your item! Items can also be given out in the middle of an existing thread between characters, whenever they get around to searching the piles! The header does not have to be in your toplevel.

i bet it isn't even 5 o'clock somewhere
[Kneeling down to pull Marcel's mouth away from the lock, he gives the pokeball in Armin's hand a cautious look.]
...Try not to get Marcel caught up in it. I think if you freeze it, he can make them break open the rest of the way.
no subject
[She is still only level one, after all.
Armin reaches for Aurora's ball, before he pauses, switching tack.]
Wait, let me release Juniper first. Aurora really looks up to her. She might be able to help getting her to understand what we want.
[Armin plucks Juniper's ball from his belt, releasing the Dragalge. She honestly looks rather worse for the wear. It is nothing that some TLC and a visit to the poke centrum won't fix, but it is obvious she has been doing a lot of battling. But even tired as she is, she rears up on her front flippers, trying to examine Armin's face with soft, worried noises.
Armin murmurs softly to comfort her, before reaching to unleash Aurora. The little dratini appears in a coil on the floor, pushing herself up to blink at both Armin and Bertolt with big round eyes, before she spots Juniper, going in for the cuddle.]
no subject
[He is a giant firedog, AKA a Big Huge Baby. The time spent up in the colder parts of the Isles were kind to him, but that doesn't mean Marcel enjoyed having his nose frozen from disgruntled pokemon whenever he'd shove his head in strange holes in the ground.
Both he and Marcel tilt their heads at Aurora, but it's more of a greeting than anything else - even he has to admit she's cute, okay? Though as soon as she looks to Juniper, Bertolt lets himself lean against his Arcanine and study the cages. It could be any of theirs in there, really...
One ends up catching his attention. On the bottom row in the middle, a small green dog-looking Pokemon sits huddled in the back corner, trembling and staring at the floor of the cage. Kneeling down in front of it, Bertolt reaches for the lock and lets it rest in his palm, his brows furrowed.]
...Can you have her do this one first?
no subject
Let me try. Though it is probably best if you don't hold it.
[He wouldn't Aurora to accidentally miss and freeze off a couple of Bertolt's fingers.
With that said, he turns to his little --well, maybe not so little-- dratini, stroking along her fin-like ears.]
I know we've never tried this before, but could you try and use an ice beam on that lock?
[Aurora peers at Armin, glances at Juniper, and then, encouraged by what she sees there, she blasts the lock with a shot of ice. It's not enough to freeze it entirely, but it is a good start.]
That's it. Keep going.
no subject
...I think I know what I'm going to do when we get out of here.
[Behind him, Marcel takes a few steps back and sits down on his haunches. He's not going to try anything without a clear command, and to give everything space for now. He could try melting the locks, but even he understands that it would scare the poor smaller Pokemon.]
no subject
[Armin's got most of his attention on Aurora, guiding her as she blasts the lock with ice over and over again until the metal is frozen solid.]
All right. Try and have Marcel snap it open now.
[The ice should've made the metal brittle and god knows the Arcanine's got some good strength hidden away in those jaws.]
He knows crunch, doesn't he?
no subject
Go ahead, boy. Break it.
[Marcel groans in feigned protest, but clearly there isn't any to be had. It's easy to fit himself over Bertolt and work his mouth around the lock, and once he gets his back teeth lined up over it, he crunches down hard to shatter it.]
--I've been thinking about it since the party, but when we get back to the Islands, I'm... I'm going to breed him.
[Both so Marcel would have someone of equal size to play with, and for extra force. Not too many people are willing to start something violent with a trainer when they have a dog that could easily fit their mouth around their heads, right?]
no subject
[Part of Armin wants to discuss this with Bertolt. He's never witnessed pokemon breeding close-up --though he has read about it-- and he'd love to get some first hand accounts. He'd love to talk all about what ideas Bertolt has lined up for himself, and whether those books Armin had given him had been any help.
Yes, he'd love to discuss all of that. But now does not feel like the right time.]
When we get back to the islands, I'd love to hear all about your plans.
[Right now, they should focus on the task at hand.]
no subject
[It's because of all of this.
He hadn't seen just how protective Marcel could get until tonight, when a Rocket had tried to attack him (and knocked out Brandr in the process). Seeing him genuinely angry had been terrifying, but it also made Bertolt feel safe - if anything, he feels that everyone in their little traveling party could use something like that.
Especially after seeing Armin with a black eye.
Reaching partially into the cage, Bertolt nearly jolts back when the small dog more or less barrels out of its small prison in favor of throwing itself into his jacket. If it wasn't for Marcel sitting behind him, he probably would've ended up on his back.]
--Easy! D-Do you have a spare ball? I can give you one of mine when we get back.
no subject
[Armin reaches into his pocket to retrieve a poke-ball, handing it to Bertolt. Naturally he's come prepared. He had heard people talk about how it had been possible to catch rare pokemon previous years around where the prom was being held, and in the event that would be true again this year, he had brought several balls. He'd hate to miss out on an amazing catch simply because of not preparing before hand!]
We should try and open some of these other cages next. Even if we can't bring all these pokemon home with us, at least if they are free, they can escape this place.
