Video/Action
[The video feed has a momentary flurry of activity as Hans realises what angle he needs to hold it on to show his face. There's a blur of clothing and an unimpressed Mudbray before it finally settles on Hans' face.
Momentarily he's a little bewildered, then he smiles.]
Just curious- how do people decide what to name their Pokémon? I know a lot of people have themes- what made you pick them? Does anyone choose not to name them?
[He's mostly just using this as a way to figure out what kind of Pokémon everyone has along with what sort of worlds they're from (he may never get used to that), but a part of him is genuinely curious.]
I've kind of been going with a fruit theme, myself. My horse back home was called Sitron. [His laugh is sheepish.] Where I'm from, it means lemon. Here, I have my mudbray- He's called Æble- which means apple. Then there's my houndour, I don't think he appreciates his name very much. It's Jordbær- it means strawberry! I think he was hoping for something more fearsome.
[Hans chuckles to himself.] I'd be really interested to hear all of your reasons behind your names. We all come from such different worlds, I think it's a funny way to bring our culture here.
[There's a substantial pause before he adds.] Oh! And my name is Hans, of course. But that has nothing to do with fruit.
action: goldenrod city area
[There's a two week delay on wandering for Hans, for reasons he won't discuss. He's dressed as casually as he can stand and he's taking the time to gather his bearings and learn a little more about where he is. He has his Mudbray out of his ball, because he's trying to better acquaint himself with it as well.
It's not going great.
Hans and his Mudbray seem to have conflicting ideas about what direction to walk in, what to look at and whether to walk at all or just stand still and eat dirt. Hans doesn't always immediately notice that he's walking while his pokemon isn't, but when he eventually turns around he's obviously becoming exasperated.]
Æble! Surely that can't be good for you. [Who eats dirt? Why does he have a beast that eats dirt? Hans plods back toward him, beckoning for him to keep walking.
Æble responds by kicking his back foot and snorting, but he's not moving.]
Honestly, you can be such an.. [He pauses, then falters.] ..Ass. If you want to eat dirt, that's fine, but I'm going to keep walking.
[Hans turns, with a huff, and Æble charges behind him to headbutt the back of his legs. Hans stumbles and grunts, swiveling back around to put his hands on his hips so he can stare disapprovingly at his Mudbray.]
That was bad manners.

Her expression is...displeased, to say the least. She's got her Deerling sitting in her lap, and her Shroomish perched on her shoulder, looking equally grumpy.]
My name means 'I'm gonna kick your butt if I see you anywhere near me or my sister again'.
Why would I come near you when I have nothing to gain from you? I'm not that petty. [He pauses.] Unless.. you're actually scared of me?
Me? Scared of you? Ha! What are you gonna do....fall off a boat again?

That's cute.

I hope I'm not being invasive! I'm just so curious.

Unless you are really that disgustingly positive about things.
Then you're just an idiot.

[The good stories, at least.]
I named my Houndoom after a goddess named Freja, and then I have two more called Herja and Skadi. And, um... I have a Dratini named after Jormungand. I don't remember the details of a lot of the ones she'd say since it's been so long, but I liked hearing them.
video;
Does that mean a Dratini is a kind of snake?
video;
But he sort of looks like one? Only, uh... Here, give me a minute to find a picture.
[Some minutes later, he sends along a picture featuring his Dratini and a small black Zorua.]
The other one with him there is Askeladd.

Of course she's been told that time stops in their universe, but it's one thing to be told that and another thing to believe it deep in your heart, and Elsa's been a little unsure of that this entire time. So with Hans arriving here? It means that he can't cause any trouble back in Arendelle, which is a fear that's been playing in Elsa's mind ever since she and Anna had arrived.
While she doesn't entirely agree with Anna's hostile approach, Anna is the scorned lover and has every right to be hostile, so Elsa's going to let her handle it her own way. Elsa on the other hand doesn't feel like antagonism is the right approach here. She isn't queen here, there's no throne to take. Unless he wants revenge, they have no reason to ever cross paths. She'll be cautious though, that much is certain.]
I'll leave the threatening to Anna, considering you already know she's good for it.
[She clears her throat.]
I trust you can mind your business and we can mind ours? [She pauses a moment, before deciding as a peace offering of sorts, she'll answer his question. She gestures for her vulpix to come into view and the Pokemon cautiously enters the frame, sensing Elsa's own tension.] This is Skadi, my Vulpix.
Re: Video
Elsa is the truly intimidating one, because she's got something a little more formidable than brute strength on her side. She's also volatile, and her weaknesses aren't so easy to play when the outcomes are risky.
Of course, once Hans figures out powers don't work here, he may reconsider his thinking.
For now, he'll eagerly take her pacifistic approach. Particularly when it could easily drive a wedge between Elsa and Anna if he were to play his cards right.]
She's made her stance abundantly clear. [His tone is amused, he's resigned to it.]
I have no business with either of you here, so that's easy enough. [He's happy to coast past that and focus on the Vulpix. He knits his eyebrows together curiously, seemingly fascinated.]
It's beautiful. I've only ever seen a red one before. I didn't even know they had different colourings.

Honestly... I just kinda went with nicknames that sounded cool for the most part. I mean, "Flare" for a Charizard isn't exactly the most creative pick, but it gets the job done. Same with most of my team. I tend to base it off their appearances or type. Sometimes both.
But I have had a few that wanted to pick their own names. Doesn't happen often, but my Blastoise, Zen... she's anything but relaxed.
[Shrugging, he runs a hand through his bangs.]
Gotta say, though. When your team gets above fifty, it gets pretty tough to come up with creative nicknames.

Do you have more than fifty?

sorry for the lateness. retail is hell this time of year!

It's easy enough to keep up with if you only have one of each... One of mine came with a name from his breeder.

[Jean has gotten a little more creative with names the last few months, and is no longer naming his Pokemon based purely on what they look like.]

*don't mind the perfectly charming, almost regal demeanor; he's like that for everyone*
Though when it comes to names, I suppose I prefer finding something that seems to suit each individual pokemon. And which they're willing to agree to, as well, of course.
Video
[Hans is equally charming, though a little less regal. He likes to be relatable.]
What helps you pick a name that suits?
