Video/Action

[The video feed has a momentary flurry of activity as Hans realises what angle he needs to hold it on to show his face. There's a blur of clothing and an unimpressed Mudbray before it finally settles on Hans' face.

Momentarily he's a little bewildered, then he smiles.]

Just curious- how do people decide what to name their Pokémon? I know a lot of people have themes- what made you pick them? Does anyone choose not to name them?

[He's mostly just using this as a way to figure out what kind of Pokémon everyone has along with what sort of worlds they're from (he may never get used to that), but a part of him is genuinely curious.]

I've kind of been going with a fruit theme, myself. My horse back home was called Sitron. [His laugh is sheepish.] Where I'm from, it means lemon. Here, I have my mudbray- He's called Æble- which means apple. Then there's my houndour, I don't think he appreciates his name very much. It's Jordbær- it means strawberry! I think he was hoping for something more fearsome.

[Hans chuckles to himself.] I'd be really interested to hear all of your reasons behind your names. We all come from such different worlds, I think it's a funny way to bring our culture here.

[There's a substantial pause before he adds.] Oh! And my name is Hans, of course. But that has nothing to do with fruit.

action: goldenrod city area
[There's a two week delay on wandering for Hans, for reasons he won't discuss. He's dressed as casually as he can stand and he's taking the time to gather his bearings and learn a little more about where he is. He has his Mudbray out of his ball, because he's trying to better acquaint himself with it as well.

It's not going great.

Hans and his Mudbray seem to have conflicting ideas about what direction to walk in, what to look at and whether to walk at all or just stand still and eat dirt. Hans doesn't always immediately notice that he's walking while his pokemon isn't, but when he eventually turns around he's obviously becoming exasperated.]

Æble! Surely that can't be good for you. [Who eats dirt? Why does he have a beast that eats dirt? Hans plods back toward him, beckoning for him to keep walking.

Æble responds by kicking his back foot and snorting, but he's not moving.]

Honestly, you can be such an.. [He pauses, then falters.] ..Ass. If you want to eat dirt, that's fine, but I'm going to keep walking.

[Hans turns, with a huff, and Æble charges behind him to headbutt the back of his legs. Hans stumbles and grunts, swiveling back around to put his hands on his hips so he can stare disapprovingly at his Mudbray.]

That was bad manners.

I don't really have a theme, when I give them names. Honestly, I mostly ask Rose and the others for ideas, these days...

[And with a cheerful "Clef!", here is a Clefairy peeking up on Ryner's shoulder. Speak of the devil and she shall appear.

Ryner makes a motion toward her with his head even as he reaches up to give her the scritches she desires.]
Rose. Her name comes from some flowers in my partner's family's garden, so there's that.

[The Clefairy chirps cheerfully, obviously appreciative of the compliment.]

She taught herself how to write. So when somebody new comes along, she gives me a paper with her ideas, and anybody else's ideas, and we go from there.

I mean, she's kind of too smart for her own good, too... But yeah, you could say we're close.

[Rose preens a little at the scritches her dear partner is giving her. Or perhaps in appreciation that he's actually saying it.]

Well, we've kind of got almost seven years head start, to be fair...

You have a horse, though? Where you're from.
