The Contest Spectacular!

Who: Everyone attending the Contest Spectacular! (For more information about this event, check out the info post here!)
Where: Celadon City
When: January 18-20
Log:

It’s finally here… the Contest Spectacular! The whole city of Celadon has been bustling ever since the preparations for the contest began, but now with the addition of all the contestants, their friends, and the general crowds, the town is downright packed. Hotel rooms booked en masse (good luck getting into that big fancy one near the casino-- thank Arceus there's plenty of others!), the Center stuffed with younger trainers who are short on cash but couldn't pass up the opportunity to see the first ever Pokemon Contest in this region, and generally even more foot traffic than usual.

But nowhere is it moreso than in Celadon Center, where massive, colorful tents have been erected. Pink, orange, yellow, green, and blue! There's no missing what they're for-- enormous banners advertising the Contest Spectacular fly from every corner. The streets surrounding the square are packed as well-- food carts and merch stands line the sidewalks, eager to snag a bit of the glory. Teeny tiny portions of hoity-toity restaurant food usually too expensive to buy are being hawked to passersby right alongside Pokeblocks and Poffins of varying quality, in case your Pokemon need a treat (or a little extra oomph before the show starts!). In addition to the stands selling gobs of Hoenn contest celebrity memorabilia (contest nerds might recognize figures such as Contest Idol Lisia and her Altaria, Ali, featured quite prominently!), Celadon City's many fashion boutiques and clothing lines have gotten first dibs on available space, so any contestants still looking for an outfit for themselves or their Pokemon is in luck, because there’s absolutely everything you could imagine for sale if you find the right stall. Opportunistic photographers (some official, some... not) have also swooped in to set up booths with rentable costumes and fun backgrounds, for anyone who isn't performing but wants some cute souvenir pictures of their Pokemon being a contest star anyway.

But of course, for eager audiences and contestants alike, the real attraction lays within the tents themselves. Audience members will have to wait in line for the shows to officially begin at noon on Friday, but for those who entered the contest themselves, well, that's another story entirely!

Stages of all kinds have been arranged to suit most every type of act that’s been submitted, from the more traditional wooden stages to huge tanks to little fields (the oodles of hardworking staff making all of this possible are making good use of moves like Grassy Terrain!), and the Contest Hosts’ voices can be heard presenting acts and cracking jokes about said acts almost all day long.

After registering but before checking into their lodgings (prepaid rooms at the ritzy Celadon Hotel! Lucky you!), contestants and their Pokemon will be shown behind the scenes and made familiar with all the utilities at their disposal-- small refreshments, makeup stalls, a selection of props to make use of (although, as the harried-looking staff will tell them, bringing your own unique items is really the best way to stand out!), lights, camera, and of course action! Unsurprisingly, the entire back workings of the Contest is a flurry of activity-- it's a lot of people, Pokemon, and equipment to manage; and in true, bombastic Hoenn style, there are bright lights and flashy colors everywhere you look! But contestants will still find that no matter how busy or frantic they are, the staff will still find time to help them out with special requests or technical requirements for the act. It is, after all, their job!

But ultimately, the act is on you and your Pokemon. Don't get stage fright now-- the curtain's going up any minute!

[IMPORTANT: Please submit your contest entries here! For all other activities, feel free to make your own top-levels!]

[You can bet that she'd watched Ash's before he went on, too, definitely impressed by his and his Lapras' entire performance, down to the tiny details. So when he waves to her and tells her she was awesome? She looks very surprised. Dinah, however, knows she's being praised and beams.]

Goodness, thank you! That's an incredible compliment coming from you, considering what we did wasn't nearly as impressive...
rambling_runner: (Hey there)

"Hey it was! I loved the song you used. And I've never seen a Pokemon change form and then shift back!" What is Mega Evolution. Ash has been able to mega evolve his Lucario for months but have never actually realised it or tried to use it.

From behind him, Scuabtuinne echos Ash's sentiments. She really loved watching it!
cyan_maid: (Why yes I do enjoy cake)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2018-01-19 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, that's just the Mega Evolution thing...we don't use it much, and not every Pokemon can do it, but I thought the form would be much more appealing than any kind of outfit I made her wear...

[Dinah, happy little attention mongering child that she is, gives a little twirl. She's plenty cute on her own merit, you know!]

But I thought yours was very fitting and natural! It had a raw beauty to it that I don't think a lot of people would have expected, but it was perfect! [And honestly, the unexpected is usually the kind of thing that stands out.]

Ash laughed, ruffling his hair. "Aw, thanks! I wanted to call back to my heritage from home, and I figured since they were putting us in a category for being out of this world, why not just go all out with it? I've never actually seen Mega Evolution before - how do you know what Pokemon are do it?"

Scuabtuinne nodded to Dinah, unknowingly encouraging her. Yes, she is very beautiful. Even without the mega evolution!
cyan_maid: (Aw shucks)

Well, were you at the prom that happened last year? Because of all the hullabaloo that happened, those of us in attendance got these stones - just one on a bracelet, [She indicates the Key Stone on her bracelet] and then a loose one. I just ended up doing a little research on what I'd gotten, and it turned out to work with Dinah. I...don't think they're very common or easy to get, but I can't imagine encountering more in the future isn't possible.

[There's probably whole Kalosian forums about Mega Evolution.

Meanwhile, Dinah dips into a curtsy to Scubtuinne in a gesture of both gratitude and of directing the compliment to her. You are also very lovely!]
rambling_runner: (Oh my god)

[personal profile] rambling_runner 2018-01-21 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait....That's what that's for??" Ash reached for his bag and rummaged about inside it, pushing aside his casual clothes and pulling out his own Mega Bracelet; styled in a cuff with celtic swirls over it. "I skimmed the letter that came with it and it mentioned 'Lucario' so I gave it to Danny. He was my starter and had been there with me, but I thought it was just like, a pretty stone and the talk about power was about like, the proteins. That they just boosted their strength passively, not like that."

...He had to try that out with Danny. Scuabtuinne smiled and bowed down, speaking to her softly. She hoped Dinah got lots of votes.
cyan_maid: (Give me all of the bacon and eggs you ha)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2018-01-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Goodness, you should! We haven't used it in battle yet, but I have heard it's supposed to be an excellent boost in power if you do - and some Pokemon change their types! Dinah gains the Fairy type, for instance - I don't know about Lucario, but if your Danny is willing to give it a try, then by all means, go for it!

[Dinah just shrugs. She had a lot of fun with the experience, and her trainer had fun, and that's what matters to her - and also they're in this cool new place! That's already so much better than votes!]
rambling_runner: (Hey there)

"Well Danny's already Fighting and Steel. But yeah I'm gonna have to try this out with him sometime. If you want I'll let you know how he changes!" Since Jane was the one to tell him it was possible! Behind him, Scuabtuinne brushed her head against his back and he smiled back to her.

"Ah, you getting a bit tired love?" She nodded. She didn't do big crowds in small places like this, not for long periods of time. She murmured an apology to Dinah, but she needed to go back into her ball for a bit.
cyan_maid: (:O)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2018-01-22 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[No problem hun, Dinah nods in understanding. She's been working at Pokemon Centers long enough to be used to crowds and loud voices and stuff going on, but not every Pokemon's like that.]

I'd love to hear about it! That is, if it's not too much trouble.
rambling_runner: (Hey there)

italics are irish, I still don't know how to clarify it :x

[personal profile] rambling_runner 2018-01-25 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ash pet Scuabtuinne's nose, before recalling her. "That's alright. You take a break and I won't forget about that treat I owe you."

With Scuabtuinne back in her ball, he tucked it on his belt and returned to his chat with Jane. "It won't be any trouble at all! And for telling us that it can be done, it feels only fair to share with ya." Ash had no idea how Danny would evolve, but he was extremely eager to try it out now. The pair of them were already inseparable.
cyan_maid: (Every gentleman worth his salt has one!)

nah it's cool dude and also awesome

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2018-01-26 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Huh, that's a language Jane hasn't heard before - not surprising, since she's from the American Northwest.]

Well, I'll be looking forward to seeing how it works out! It helps to try and maintain a singular sort of mindset with your Pokemon, like...you want to work together to make something happen. That's what we've been doing.
rambling_runner: (Thinking about stuff)

[personal profile] rambling_runner 2018-01-29 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"So, we should be working towards something when we try it?" That got the gears turning. They'd need to be going for the same goal to sync up their minds up. While they frequently meditate together, that's more just zenning out together than purposefully linking their minds towards something.
cyan_maid: (Aw shucks)

[personal profile] cyan_maid 2018-01-29 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right! It's supposed to work well for battling, when you're both focused on confronting your opponent. It's really nifty, and it kind of makes you wonder if there are other things like it out in the world...

Sorry i got no idea where to take this thread :x wrap it here?

[personal profile] rambling_runner 2018-02-01 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah..." Ash hummed thoughtfully. He snapped out of his thoughts and gave Jane a smile. "I'll definitely get on that once I'm back home and training everyone up again!"
