There’s a sour-sweet wind a-blowing this eve as the sun hangs low and red in the sky. The leaves have turned, windows glow like jack-o-lantern eyes, and the streets hum with the excitement that the night will bring. There’s no mysterious trees growing straight out of the concrete this year, and there’s a palpable sense of relief as those who were waiting with bated breath for the other shoe to fall finally set about hanging up last-minute decorations and picking the candy aisles at every PokeMart bare.

It is Halloween, and for the first time in a few years, it would seem nothing is going to get in the way of the holiday.

… At least, right up until the last sliver of sun dips below the horizon.

A flock of Murkrow explodes up from the woods around Violet City, cawing in excitement. On the Sevii Islands, Alolan Rattata pop out of their burrows with bright eyes and quivering noses. In the glens outside Celadon City, the Houndooms start to howl.

Almost as one, all Dark-type Pokemon, big and small, young and old, stop and lift their noses to the crisp breeze. Something ancient tingles in their bones. Oh, tonight...tonight is their night. However much they may love their trainer, something higher is calling them. Mischief! Adventure! CANDY!

It’s time!

Fast or slow, brazen or sneaky, the sunset is the signal for each and every Dark-type to break away from their trainers and run off into the night. To do what? Well what do you think, silly humans? You know what night it is!

Some fashion their own costumes and go door to door earning sweet treats alongside the excited children who are out in droves. Or perhaps they might pursue some more unconventional treat-seeking avenues -- sometimes one man’s trash is another mon’s treat!

But there’s more to Halloween than candy; others will develop a nasty streak and put the ‘trick’ in ‘trick or treat’, upsetting outdoor decorations, frighten childrening and little old ladies, or even pantsing people! The horror! Anything can happen on Halloween!

Even the wild Dark-types are filled with the holiday spirit. Last year everyone was too wrapped up with that Ghost-type nonsense to properly enjoy Halloween, so they’re all too happy to make up for lost time. Harried trainers trying to track down their tricky runaways might find themselves befriending the Poochyenas, Murkrows, or even Alolan Meowths that have come out of the woodwork to celebrate. After all, what good is a grand trick if there’s no one to tell about it? What good is a tasty treat with no one to share? Even trainers who don’t have any Dark-types in their arsenal will find themselves approached by these wild Pokemon and invited to tag along!

EPILOGUE

It's been a long night of chaos-- mostly harmless chaos, but still chaos. Jennies are fielding phonecalls from houses besieged by toilet-paper-wielding Sableye and trainers tree'd by roving packs of Poochyena and Houndour. But just before the sun rises on November 1st, that sour-sweet wind dies down and the cloudy skies part, revealing a soft crescent moon hanging low in the sky.

After a full night of loud noises and partying, all goes quiet as a soothing lullaby quiets the normal background music-- yes, that's Cresselia drifting overhead, calming the wild Halloween call that's been driving Dark-type mishief all night long.

Even Nephelis-- because oh yes, being a dark-type itself, Nephelis was also getting up to its own tricks and treats-- begins to feel drowsy! With soothing (and slightly disapproving) notes, the majestic moonbird ushers the night-sky kitty off to wherever it takes its catnaps, and with it, all the wayward Dark Pokemon who roamed the night away.

At long last, they'll be coming home by paw, wing, or warp to cuddle up to their owners for a nice long nap-- hopefully one undisturbed by bad dreams from all the candy they ate, but then again, some of them were awfully naughty so maybe it's only deserved.

Meanwhile, in Nephelis' wake, everyone will find the Legendary was busy all night just like the rest-- leaving a big, sparkly, beautiful, and very inconvenient stardust mural for each trainer. Maybe it's on their desk, or their sleeping bag, or their hotel bathroom floor-- but it features jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, and other Halloweeny motifs along with a signature pawprint and the words TRICK OR TREAT ! I HAVE CHOSEN 'TRICK' ! HAPPY HALLOWEEN !

Have fun cleaning that up along with everything else-- at least you can bottle up that stardust for a pretty penny at the PokeMart!

[They're finally back.

Or, they should just about be back in the city; Jane had forgotten how long one could be on the road for in this place, but she should be back in time for Halloween, making sure to pick up a few bags of candy at the last minute for trick-or-treaters. She doesn't do anything super elaborate at her house, just makes sure the decorations are up and hands out candies to kids in the Audino Kigurumi that Jade had once given her. It all seems to be going rather well...

...Until the sun goes down.]

Boys! Boys, will you please cut it out?! You're both so much better than - whoa!!

[Apparently, two of Jane's Pokemon had caught wind of the inkling of mischief in the air - Dart, usually such a standoffish and serious Bisharp, is launching rolls of toilet paper over and around Jane's house while Hughie, who's always been a foxy scamp of a Zoroark, has found...silly string in a can.

It's everywhere. Oh God. And they're handing more messy things out to Jane's other Pokemon. Some look at it with confusion or indifference. Others, like Dinah the Audino, join right on in to make their home look like a complete disaster zone.]

Jiminey crickets, not you too!! Uuugh!

[Will you take pity on Jane and help her get these rascals under control? Or will your mischief maker join in on the fun?]

[So Alex and Roxy may have noticed that their current living arrangements are now coated in mess. Toilet paper, silly string, broken eggs (not Pokemon eggs, but that begs the question of where the heck did these come from) and more have made the house a total wreck. And Jane's. So sad. She's furious, but still very, very sad.]

...Why did they do all that? Was it something I said...?

[Oh no. She thinks it's her fault. As she sniffles and rolls up her kigurumi sleeves, preparing to start cleaning up, out of the corner of her eye she spots a funny glittering.]

Huh-

[Well, well! Look at all this garbage left out in the open! It's a veritable feast for a shiny Grimer, who emerges shyly from around the corner, quickly grabbing globs of sticky string and toilet paper and devouring them. Jane blinks as she watches the creature, her nose wrinkling from the smell, but she finds herself smiling.]

H...Hoo hoo...oh, my goodness...hey! [The Grimer perks up, skittishly looking at the human in costume, but Jane doesn't rush over to frighten it away.] Would you be able to help me? I don't want all of this on my house...and if you want to eat it, you're quite welcome to it.

Gri, grime...grimer!

[And that is how a shiny Grimer began to eat all the trash in the yard under Jane's oddly fond supervision. Definitely gotta check this out, right?]

[Alex meanwhile has been experiencing her own Halloween adventures and has thus been out of the house for a while. When she comes back to the house she's covered in silly string, paper streamers and there are sticks sticking out of her hair. Her skeleton costume is kinda a mess too.]

10/31 - Goldenrod City

[If you thought Thida wasn't going to go out on Free Candy Night - I mean, Halloween? Then you thought wrong my friend. Her favorite costume draped overtop her head, she's walking the streets of Goldenrod and fitting in seamlessly with the other small kids going up to doors for treats. It pays to be a shortie, that's for sure.

But there's something odd about the three Pokemon that insisted they accompany her. Maika the Malamar, Kuro the Umbreon, and Rami the Sableye are all in similar costumes to their trainer, though much better made with just two eye holes, and little embellishments to go along with the sheets; Kuro's witch hat has those reversible sequins, Rami's mask depicts a sour rotting pumpkin, and Maika has a comically small headband with Purrloin ears. They each act as sort of guardians and escorts to Thida as she bops from house to house, but sometimes one of them goes up with her to get a candy, and when they see you, they come over, taking that candy out and placing it at your feet, looking at you expectantly.

Well? How do you feel about trading candies with a Pokemon?]

10/31 - Route 7, Lunar Gym - OTA

[Anyone traveling from Saffron to Celadon, from Celadon to Saffron or chasing after their Dark-types around route 7 might find the Lunar Gym looking somewhat... different. The front lawn appears to have been clawed up by a stampede, and an innumerable amount of candy is dispersed all over the place, available for the taking.

Those brave enough to investigate the matter will find the Gym's doors unlocked, as they should be on a Wednesday evening. However, no Pokémon arrives to greet the new visitors, and neither does Cecil. What could possibly going on? Could this be related to the strange noises coming from the battle room...?

Those curious enough to open the heavy doors hiding the battle arena will find...

Well. There sure is a lot of Alolan Meowths in there. And they all seem to be chasing after tiny moving dots of red light, shining brightly on the mirrored walls and floor. Those dots may or may not come from the laser pointers an Umbreon, an Hydreigon, a Pangoro and a Bisharp are clutching with every available limb and/or mouth. Why isn't their trainer stopping this madness?

...Because he's sitting in a corner and staring blankly at the scene, that's why. Come say hi?]

[ amongst that horde of alolan meowths is a shiny one with a cape made of a trash bag, her pail forgotten to chase after these shiny lights. and hot on her heels are her (new) trainer, a tall boy with freckles dressed as a vampire, and an alolan vulpix dressed as little red riding hood.

the vulpix goes to scoop up the pail, while marco watches the scene before spotting the gym leader sitting off to the side. he carefully picks his way over to him, crouching down next to him. ]

[If you visit the Islands during this night, you may find a house, covered in cats, on the beach. If you go up to the door, you'll be welcomed by a broad, dorito-shaped guy. Wearing this. Look, it's as close to Batman as you're going to get, okay. He's totally here to hand out candy to people and pokemon alike.]

[Any friends or family are going to get a hug. It's not a question. If he knows you and likes you, you're getting hugged.]


2) POKEMON SHENANIGANS

[Don't worry. Nebula the Umbreon is here to charm you in her cute little witch hat. She has a tiny pumpkaboo bucket in her mouth, and she stops, sitting upright, the classic Begging pose.]

[If you're human, she'll maintain this pose until you give her a treat. If you're a pokemon, she'll probably invite you to come searching for treats with her!]

[And here's Red the Incineroar. Dressed as a Hawlucha. She is daintily holding a punkaboo bucket between her thumb and forefinger. Should you encounter this giant lady musclecat, she will bow to you. And humbly extend her bucket.]

[For most of the night, Gligarman Shiro will be following along anyone who managed to drag him out. Do you take him to a haunted house? Trick or Treating? Or do you not recognize him with his ridiculous outfit?]

[Either way, he's here, he's a dorito, and he's determined to get some candy and have a good time tonight.]

[ Is all the warning Annie gives before she's leaping down from the fire escape on the side of a building, having given up on tracking Lute through the streets for a period of time through the part of town with roofs close enough she can manage to roof run, even while dressed up like a country lass in the city for her first time.

Meaning there's a young woman landing dangerously close to Gilgarman Shiro, going down to a crouch as she absorbs the impact of her jump, skirts of her dress and the long ends of her coat pooling around her, face temporarily hidden by the sunhat one hand has kept clutched to the top of her head.

Annie has never shown herself on video, though she has the little photo ID on her gear that everyone has, so when she stands with a smooth motion, the young woman with her low pigtails, round lens glasses, and look of grim determination doesn't quite match her usual looks. In fact, she really doesn't match up well at all.

[ Annie has her arm held up overhead, elbow bent at a ninety degree angle, inviting her hoothoot to come in for a landing. Which she does in a silent swoop, the beating of her wings as she perches almost enough to upset Annie's held-down hat, definitely sending her hair dancing. ]

10/31 - Lavender Town

[Chise had never experienced Halloween in a traditional sense, with the costumes and the going door to door, so a part of her was excited to partake in the entire thing. She was still in Lavender Town when the day arrived and had managed to find a costume for herself, dressing up her Rockruff to match.

It seemed like it was going to be a fun night. At least until she had to start chasing around her Dark type Pokemon and her Ghosts and Fairies as well.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself crossing paths with a very stressed out Chise as she searches high and low through Lavender Town for all of her mischievous companions!]

[While Chise's two mainstay Dark types are being...mostly good, a newcomer to the group is leading her Ghost and more naughty Fairy types in some chaotic fun. Annwn the Poochyena is happily sneaking around behind groups of trick-or-treaters and distracting them so Chise's other Pokemon can loot their buckets--

or scare the crap out of them.

Beware the Litwick--wait, that's not a Litwick anymore...--Shuppet, Sylveon?!, Cottonee, and Klefki that are following Annwn around causing as much trouble as they possibly can!]

[Alternatively you may be lucky enough to cross paths with Chise's two dark types that are a little less...stereotypical jerks. Noir the Murkrow is wandering about with a pumpkin bucket in her beak, dutifully watching over Beanna the Deino who is scampering around having the time of his life. They're accompanied by Uli the Axew, Enoki the Morelull, Teg the Cutiefly and Yūrei the Duskull and are all on their best behavior!

For the most part.

Don't be surprised if the Deino-Axew-Cutiefly trio attempt to tag-team you for extra candy. They're very excited about this holiday.]

[Well, Yuuko should have guessed there would be Pokemon who wanted candy, too. Luckily she's carrying some extra candy from when she was handing it out to trick-or-treaters earlier, so she has something to give the Deino, Axew and Cutiefly when they ambush her.]

Okay, okay, here you go. I guess it's not surprising that you'd be into this holiday, too.

[Meanwhile, Shizuka the Froslass just looks amused, holding one of her hands to her mouth to stifle a laugh.]

10/31 - Cerulean City

[Halloween wasn't a big thing in Japan, not like it was for other places. Sure people still dressed up and had parties but trick-or-treating wasn't a big deal. And for someone like Shoto it was never something he got to really partake in much.

With all the buzz in the air about the upcoming holiday he couldn't help but be intrigued, especially when his Pokemon started to get excited as well. (Little did he know Mr. A was getting hyped up for an entirely different reason.)

He and Hope reached Cerulean a couple days before everything kicked off and Shoto spent a solid day searching for a costume he could wear, dragging Hope along to find his friend one as well.. In the end he went with something rather stereotypical for Halloween but he enjoyed it nonetheless, getting himself a bag for candy as well and some small buckets for some of his Pokemon at the same time.

When Mischief Night finally rolled around and they set out to start their adventure, Shoto unaware that several of his Pokemon had slipped away to have some fun of their own as things got underway.]


[All the Treats!]

[While Mr. A the Poochyena is going to be after treats rather than tricking people, don't expect him to be an absolute sweetheart. He won't hesitate to walk right up and stick his snout out, bucket held in his jaws as he gives a very pointed "Well?" look as he waits for candy to be dropped in. He's got a pair of goggles on his head and a scarf wrapped around his neck, Shoto having dressed him up like his namesake...just because he could.

He's also got a Murkrow and Alolan Meowth in tow, the pair quite curious about everything going on. (Careful or the Murkrow might try to recite poetry at you...without words. He's still learning how to talk okay.)

Oh, and don't mind the way Mr. A's shadow moves oddly every now and then. It's nothing. Really.

There's nothing to see there.]

What's this?

[Hope still didn't quite understand the holiday, but his mind hadn't really been on that anyway. After Shoto found him on Mt. Moon, the boy had been fairly quiet. Although his party seemed to be growing everyday and he was starting to think he might need to use the pokeballs, or settle somewhere. He wasn't sure. Nonetheless, a Roggenrola and a Carbink had joined them, the rock types gazing in awe at the decorations and spirit. And not at all noticing Walnut, Noel's Poochyena, take off somewhere, else they'd have alerted their new friend!

Hope settled for a mage's outfit that he more or less put together himself by getting the pieces separately as they didn't quite have his world's version of mages. He hooked his basket on his staff, glancing over at Shoto.]

So, how does this work on this world? Mabel said kids go door to door but that seems... awkward.

GRAND CENTRAL STATION - Violet City Pokemon Center

"Y-yes sir, right away."

The Violet City Pokemon Center was overrun. Henry was surrounded by upset Pokemon and even more upset Pokemon Trainers this night. The Joys had their hands full and that meant Henry had been temporarily promoted from secretary to nurse. Luckily none of the Pokemon that were crowding up the place were hurt--just. Very very inconvenienced and in need of some slightly more professional help. There was a Tangela with knots tied in her tangles. There was a Teddiursa so wrapped up in toilet paper that he couldn't move. An entire flock of Swellow were stuck together with bubble gum and Henry was right in the middle of it all trying to record and sooth patients all at once.

His shift went on and on like that and honestly, Henry kind of liked it. It felt good to jump back into the groove of helping people and Pokemon after his absence. It was a great way to chase the memories of the dank world he'd left behind from his head. He didn't have to be the Receiver of Wisdom any longer. Tonight he was a healer.

When Henry wasn't busy doing patient intake or helping comb the glitter glue out of Stoutlands, he was hanging outside the back entrance soothing his nerves with a quick coffee break. If you're especially crafty, you might catch him sneaking a smoke.


SCAREDY CAT-- Violet City

"It's not real I promise...why are you scared, you wanted this."

"WEEEOOOWOWWWWWMMMM!" This was the sound of a distraught Alolan Meowth that was perched on top of a lamp post. Henry had been on his way to the hotel from work when the shy little Dark-type had given his sleeve a tug. He'd been so polite and after seeing all the trouble the rowdier Pokemon had caused, Henry thought it might be a good idea to reward such good behavior.

It had turned out to be...taxing.

Henry stood below the Meowth with his arms stretched up. "It was just a kid in a sheet! You didn't even get your candy, come down."

"MAAAOOOWWWOOWWOOWWWW!"

Henry groaned and dragged his hands down his face. He could have been tucked in his nice hotel bed watching crappy hotel TV with a bunch of marked-down candy. Well, there was one way he could end this. He un-clipped an empty Poke'ball from his belt and expanded it.

"Okay, cat, you want to go trick-or-treating, we're going trick-or-treating."

With a grunt, he threw the ball and in a flash of light, the scared Pokemon allowed itself to be captured.

That was the beginning. Once he'd gotten his new Meowth his own costume--a simple sheet with holes cut out just like the one that had scared him to begin with--they started their quest. Henry was determined to show the little Pokemon there was nothing really to be scared of. Little did he know that was going to be way harder than he thought...

[Halloween had been going well. Alex had a costume, some of her pokemon had even joined into the spirit of things. So the girl dressed as a skeleton, decided to take the interested ones out for a walk to see the sights. She regrets this so much now. The group has been taken over by her Spiritomb and her Sneasel and the ghosts of the group which are actually most of the group have decided that hey, right. PRANKS. Mischief.]

STOP THAT!

[Pushing over pumpkins, stealing candy, tripping people. The skies the limit and the whole gang is ready to have some fun. Want to be pranked?]

[Alex is tired. Alex is a mess. Alex is trick or treating with a weird cat pokemon she ran into and is possibly providing accidental cover as it steals things/more candy. Her ghost pokemon would be so proud. She's just tired.]

One more house and then we're going home. I have to see if those trouble makers decided to come back at some point. .....I really hope they don't possess anyone.

[Jinx loves to evesdrop frankly and after spending the first half of her night trying to chase down her rampaging pokemon, she's opted to get more into the spirit of things. Dressed like an Espeon she has her Espeon at her heels dressed...well like a pokemon trainer. It's cute trust us.]

[Boone hadn't really been planning anything for Halloween, since he's never celebrated it before. Lust had mentioned she was going to do something for it though, so he'd been wondering if he should join in.

And then Pointy decided he wanted to have some fun of his own. The large Drapion is running through Goldenrod, roaring happily. If he sees Halloween decorations? He knocks them over. Pumpkins? He smashes them. It's all in good fun, but there's a lot of destruction left in his wake. And Boone, who is chasing after him, fruitlessly trying to get him to go back inside his pokeball.]

Pointy! Goddammit, stop!

[His Drapion has never acted out like this before, but Boone has a feeling it's to do with Halloween. Help would be appreciated. Or maybe Pointy just smashed that pumpkin you worked so hard on. Sorry.]

[Good god, what was happening tonight? Of course Halloween usually brings some upset, but this is wholly different than the usual!]

[Boone isn't the only one chasing misbehaving Pokemon through Goldenrod. A pair of Umbreon are wreaking pure havoc through backyards across the city. But what's this...another dark brother out enjoying the wild night! The two Eeveelutions leap over a wooden fence - one making sure to knock loose a few planks - to greet the Drapion with mischief in their eyes and toothy grins. A crowd can do so much more delightful damage...won't he join them in their revelry?]

A. Mahogany Town - Treats(?)
[Trick-or-treating hasn't really caught on in Japan, but that doesn't mean Yuuko won't take part in it. She's perfectly happy to give out candy to kids from her room at the inn, because it's always worth it to brighten up a kid's night. She only wishes her own kids were here to enjoy themselves, too.

For Halloween, she's wearing a Froslass-styled kimono for a costume, so she matches her own newly-evolved Froslass Shizuka who's accompanying her. If you pass by the Mahogany Town Inn, you'll see her at the door to her place, waving to some kids she just gave some candy to. Then she's approached by what looks like a little boy in a Zorua costume, who wordlessly thrusts out a plastic bag towards her.]

Oh...hello again. You must really love this candy, huh? [Yuuko's starting to wonder about this kid since it's the third time he's approached her for candy tonight, and he hasn't said "please" or "thank you" or even "trick or treat", but she doesn't want to spoil a kid's fun. What Yuuko doesn't seem to notice is that the tail of the boy's Zorua costume is wagging. This may not be an ordinary kid...]

B. Anywhere - Tricks
[After Yuuko's done her time handing out candy, she'll go out and explore the festivities with Shizuka floating along next to her. She's also brought Twizzle the Sylveon, and even though Twizzle isn't a Dark type, she's still fond of playing tricks. So she might be using her ribbon feelers to sneak some candy out of an unsuspecting person's bucket...

Until Yuuko notices, that is.] Twizzle! Stop that!

[ twizzle hasn't stolen from just anyone - no, she's stolen from a shiny alolan meowth, who has a garbage bag tied around her neck like a cape. the meowth immediately turns, chattering in anger at the sylveon.

and then it's all made messier by an alolan vulpix dressed as red riding hood slamming into the meowth, trying to get her stolen pail back. give it here, fiend!

this is all followed by a tall boy with freckles, dressed as a vampire, coming up, looking a little overwhelmed. ]

The looks.

[Armin has never been able to celebrate Halloween before, which is why this year, he's really going all out. He wants to find out what this holiday is all about. Throughout the whole event, he can be found wearing some very wizardly robes. They are the proper type too, slightly loose and baggy, long sleeves and a few odd potion bottles (they are really just water and food-dye) hung from his belt. And, of course, as finishing touch, he's wearing a large floppy hat, embroidered with stars. He's got a large spell tome and a wand and he is ready for this.

Also accompanying him will be Tiger Lily the Politoed. Except she isn't much of a Politoed today. She has been covered in black paint --pokemon safe, of course!-- and is sporting a pair of fake cat ears and a tail. After all, a wizard needs a cat, right?]


A. patch of pumpkins

[Early in the day, before evening has fallen even, Armin can be found looking over a rather spooky looking booth. The big sign overhead proclaims 'Pumpkin contest!', with a broad, cheery looking woman (dressed up as a pirate, yarrr) all too happy to explain the rules. It's quite simple really: take a pumpkin, carve it up at your spooky best, and at the end of the night a winner will be chosen. There is a small fee --which will go entirely to the Sevii Old Friends Pokemon Sanctuary-- but in return, everybody who enters will get a very nice cup of pumpkin soup --hey, we can't waste all those pumpkin guts, right?-- in addition to a chance for winning the big price. Which is still a secret for now.

So far, all Armin has done is admire the pumpkins. There are a great bunch already on display, little cards tucked underneath them so everybody knows which pumpkin belongs to which contestant, with a stern looking Banette making sure nobody gets the idea to switch any cards around. There are the more standard scary designs - creepy monster teeth, zubats in all sizes, and spooky eyes. There are some that look like they were carved by veritable pumpkin wizards. And there is one that is probably too scary to be allowed.

So far Armin hasn't jumped in yet, just watching. He's curious certainly, but he has never done this before. Maybe he just needs a little nudge?]


B. oo in the house

[Later in the evening, Armin (with the help of the open warp pads) has made it to Ecruteak. Right now he is standing in front of a haunted house. A slightly shabby looking haunted house. The sign proclaims 'FrEe If YoU dArE' but the paint hasn't been applied in the neatest fashion. The girl at the entrance doesn't look all that interested either, chewing her bubblegum and looking at her phone. In fact, she looks slightly annoyed at being here, as if she has somewhere else she much rather be.

Still! It's a haunted house, with all the proper props and spooky stuff present. Would be pretty fun to take a little walk through it, right? And hey, if it sucks, at least it is free? And, uh, those eyes glowing in the top window are definitely just a lamp right? Of course. Totally. Right.]

[Lets forget that silly wizard for a moment. Wherever you might be this event, if you are wearing a scarf or a cape or any other sort of flowing fabric, at some point during the night you might feel an ominous pulling on it. A ghost!!

No. wait. It's just a Sharpedo. Do not ask why she is here, in the middle of a street and not in the ocean. Her teeth are still clamped on the end of your scarf/cape/whatever and she seems rather insistent on having that, thank you very much. Will you give it to her? Try and buy her off with some candy? The choice is up to you.]

[ Annie hits the warp pads without pause, barely waiting in line when applicable; Lute's been leading her a merry chase, and while they've been training like this specifically, it doesn't make the transition between cities easier, just a pain she's used to dealing with. This is the second time she's been in Ecruteak tonight, and she doesn't even know where Lute's been hiding his candy as he goes, or who thinks giving unattended pokemon treats is a good plan, but with Arlert flying overhead, she's at least on his trail.

Libera is cities away with her pack now, curled up and waiting, and she wants to get back to her before it's too hideously late, if she can convince Lute to leave off on his wild candy drive. So far she's had no luck.

Lute's wearing a bell hung on a ribbon around his neck, a grass-woven halter on his head, his "goat" costume more referential than particularly dedicated. He has a satchel across his back, over half full, and he's still looking for more, more, more. The haunted house captures his curiosity as much as his current avarice, and the pairing of the two means he trots happily on by Armin, no more recognisable than any other Absol out and about. He slips past the disinterested girl, disappearing inside.

Annie arrives not long after, slowing down from her run to a jog as Arlert calls out and angles down to perch on a lamp post outside the haunted house. She hoots again, using a wing to indicate toward the building. Annie grimaces, resigning herself to an indoor tracking down now, adjusting the hat on her head and glad most of her low-banded pigtails have managed to stay captured even as she runs around.

She doesn't recognise Armin in his costume, flowing robes and a star speckled hat, particularly not from behind. He's one more costumed person she's run past tonight. ]

Arlert!

[ So she's only speaking to her hoothoot when she's behind Armin, her ankle length dress very country-stylish, and her long coat hanging open in the front. She's wearing glasses, big round lenses, and with the hat she'd found, she looks vaguely like a country girl stepping into the city in order to solve crime through sheer determination and grit. (It'd be spunk, but nothing about Annie cries spunky.) ]

Keep watch on the doors. I'm heading in.

A. Mischief night begins! [GOLDENROD]

[Anyone wandering around a particular neighborhood of Goldenrod City as the sunlight fades away is in for a hell of a sight.]

[The already sizable flock of semi-feral Murkrow that roost in the trees, its numbers temporarily swollen even larger by the truly wild swarms, rises all at once in a raucous cloud of black feathers, seemingly led into the night by one draped with jewelry that glints in the streetlamps. But that's only the start. Moments later, out of just about every window and door floods a whole menagerie of other dark types that quickly disperse into the neighborhood, each searching for their share mischief or rewards.]

[Anybody who sticks around for long after that will get to see a short man in a three-quarters put on dragon costume come charging out the open front door, getting as far as the street and shouting:]

Hey! Where're you all going, we had PLANS! What the hell!

[He stops short once he gets to the street, looking around to see if he can spot any of the wayward horde. And if he spots anyone ELSE hanging around, he's going to turn to them, waving one arm.]

Did you see all that?! Which way'd they go?

B. WILDCARD! Trick-or-treat...mostly trick [GOLDENROD, ECRUTEAK, VIOLET]

[It's not long before it becomes clear that going after the wayward dark types is a lost cause. So Envy figures he might as well enjoy the holiday anyway. It's been a WHILE since there's been one without some world changing event going on, and he's not passing up the opportunity to go out in costume and run around like a hooligan.]

[The costume is deep green, of course, and as elaborate as any costume he ever makes, all bristling with spines and accents of dark purple, and instead of a full mask he's opted to wear a headpiece resembling fins and a wild mane, and paint his face with scales. He took care not to make it too delicate or unwieldy, or too bright though...because the dark types aren't the only ones who think it's a good night to play pranks on houses or unsuspecting people out in the streets.]

[When he's not on his own, he'll be enjoying the night with the other members of his household, both around in Goldenrod and Ecruteak...and there's one in particular he's going to be visiting down in Violet.]

[THE TIME HAS COME!!!

Halloween was finally here and Mabel was beyond excited! As usual she'd talked Dipper into doing a matching costume with her, the twins decked out as Plusle and Minun for the event as they set out to charm the town and claim ALL the candy!

Needless to say, Mabel was armed with a pillow case for the occasion.]

This way! Forward march!

[Fake ears bouncing on her head, Plusle!Mabel was giggling as she lead the way down the sidewalk with some of her Pokemon trailing behind her. Cotton the Umbreon--newly evolved!--was prancing along at her heels wrapped up in bandages like a mummy while a new addition to her team, a Stunky she was calling Tank, trotted along at his side with a pair of wings on his back and antenna on his head like a cute little bumblebee. Tabby Puss was dragging along a pumpkin bucket for his own candy haul, the Meowth decked out like Frankenstein as Edgar Collins and Bella Crawford flew along around the group dressed as Dracula and one of his brides.

Getting ready for the night had been a lot of fun.]

Come on Dipper! We've got houses to hit and we've got people to find!!

[Leave it to the Cat Gang to figure out that the warp pads had been hacked and were allowing free travel all over the place. Actually, leave it to Pussywillow to figure that out. The Purrloin, who was already a trickster, was in rare form that night because of something in the air and with Miss Bonnie the Skitty, Sassafras the Glameow, Ruby Riot the Litten and Pearl the Alolan Meowth in tow?

Things were going to be ten times worse than normal.

The Purrloin had led the group to the nearest Pokecenter and they'd used the Warp Pads to skip town, starting their journey across the regions to loot unsuspecting trick-or-treaters.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself swarmed by a seemingly sweet bunch of felines that just want to rub against your ankles and get scritches from you!!

They're really after your candy and goodies. And they may tie your shoelaces together or swipe things from your pockets. Are you going to let them close?]

[Mabel is out of breath but determined to track down her band of merry thieves that have apparently been gallivanting across the region pulling tricks on people all night, having been hopping the warp pads to track them down but so far she's been two steps behind them.

She's getting closer though!!

Still decked out like a Plusle, the little girl is going from town to town in search of the felines and approaching everyone--whether she knows them or not because this is Mabel we're talking about--to get information...and candy.]

There's five of them in total and a Purrloin is the leader!

[Beside her, Tabby Paws nods hurriedly, the Frankenstein Meowth looking exasperated with the shenanigans of his fellow felines.]

[For some reason, her Absol, Vasquez is really into trick or treating this year. And with a witches hat on the pokemon's head, is accompanying Newt as they go door to door.

[Thanks to Mabel, Dipper is dressed as a Minun. Twins, matching costumes. Adorable ones to get people to hand out more candy? They've been doing this for years and Dipper didn't try to argue this time. He is currently separated from his twin as two of his pokemon have decided to go awol and start their own prank adventure. Dipper is out looking for them with some of his other pokemon.]

I really, really regret catching that Murkrow right now.

[ sasha and her pokemon can be counted on to join marco in this attempt for free candy. he's just excited to do something like this - dress up, ask strangers for candy and generally have a good time.

viola is carrying a little pumpkaboo pail in her mouth as they walk, but it's the sound of rustling as they cross an alleyway that get her and marco to stop. ]

[ then there's more rustling, and marco can see a coin glint in the back of the alleyway. ]

[ after catching the cat behind the sushi restaurant, marco had had her in the pokeball - for all of five minutes. then she'd burst out with her trash cape, swiped viola's pail, and took off for the nearest transport pad, cackling.

which is probably what you get first - a shiny alolan meowth holding her pail out, smelling vaguely of garbage but somehow looking regal and expectant. until she hears someone hollering - ]

[ - and she takes off running. marco and viola run up. ]

[ She is beauty, she is grace, she is running down the street and leaping off the upper portion to a lower road on the tail of Lute, uncaring of the fact she's dressed to impress the country boys she never actually grew up around. Lute's already dashed past Marco and Viola, calling out a sol sol in greeting as he goes, back of candy draped across his back.

Annie lands nearby, knees bending as she absorbs the shock, the skirts of her dress flaring out around her along with the long panels of her coat. She has one hand fisted in the material, keeping it from tangling around her legs, and the other holding on to her sunhat, utterly unnecessary at night. With her hair in low pigtails and round lensed glasses perched on the bridge of her nose, Annie springs back into motion, turning her initial sprint into a jog as she thinks she recognises the strangely dressed young man and his dapper little vulpix. ]

... Marco? Is that you?

[ she lets go of her dress skirts so they fall back in place, swishing around her legs. this festival is so strange. ]

10/31 | Lavender Town + Kanto

And more importantly, why did Bertolt agree to let a local shop owner help him "spruce up" his costume by cajoling him into letting them stick things in his eyes? Seeing his own reflection in a shop window makes Bertolt give pause, one hand reaching up to touch under his eye with a small frown as his Zoroark nearly bumps into him from behind. Once green eyes have been turned a brilliant red thanks to the local and a rather nice set of contact lenses, but it left Bertolt with a more pressing question--]}

[Pokemon House & FCAB in Lavender]

<sub>[At some point before the real festivities kick off, Bertolt can be found slipping in and out of FCAB and disappearing into the quaint looking house containing many of the Pokemon with unfortunate histories. Some of them were too shy or frightened to come out properly, but those that do can sometimes be spotted bobbing and weaving around Bertolt's feet or hanging from his Aggron's horns. The larger Pokemon doesn't seem to mind in the least, and if any of them seem close to tripping over themselves he's quick to swing a golden tail out to 'catch' them and keep them on their feet.

Other times when Bertolt is sitting outside of the train car that makes up FCAB, what looks to be a sentient... sweater? It's a sweater, isn't it? Whatever it is, it can be seen scooting across the ground with a pair of beady black eyes on the front of the garment while Bertolt fusses over a yellow-tinted sheet of fabric. Sewing never has been his strong suit, but this thing has so many holes in it that he has to try something.

Whenever someone starts to come by, Bertolt quickly looks up and gestures towards the 'possessed' sweater scooting around nearby.]</sub>

S-Sorry, but uh... Watch your step, okay? There's a Pokemon under that.

<sub>[Later on in the night, everything becomes "chaotic". One minute Bertolt had his back turned while his Zoroark and a small child dressed as a Machamp made faces at each other, and the next the same Zoroark vanished. No one knew where he went, but the child was able to give enough information to make Bertolt start worrying.

A quick search of the area turned up nothing, prompting Bertolt to take off in a run across town.]</sub>

E-Excuse me! Excuse me! H-Have you seen a Zoroark? H-He's shorter than me, uh... Mostly black with a really big red mane, named Askeladd, a-and he just disappeared and I don't know where he ran off to!

[ She doesn't seem him at first, expecting him in the clothing she's most familiar with; she knows better with the nature of this festival, and given her own get-up: the long, dark coat over the country-girl dress, her round lens glasses, her low pigtails and the sunhat to top it off. She winds through the crowd toward him ]

Despite having vast gaps in knowledge of human life, Halloween is something Rose has some context for. Not enough to grasp that only children tend to go trick or treating, but enough that she's dressed as a Wigglytuff and armed with a basket for collecting candy. Her Bunnelby and Bidoof are with her, the former wearing a cape and the latter a witch hat.

Which is perhaps why she hasn't been turned away at anyone's door yet, but the night is early. And unfortunately for Rose's plans, things are starting to get strange. There's Pokemon running amok everywhere! Packs of them together, carousing through the little town...

Before she can begin form ideas for what's happening, she's spotted by a Murkrow. The spotting turns to targeting, and in a flash, Rose finds her Bidoof being swept down upon. The beaver-like Pokemon makes a startled noise and tries to get out of the way, but his hat falls over his eyes and the Murkrow snags his candy basket.

"Doofy! Are you alright?" Rose tends to her distraught Bidoof before setting her sights on that Murkrow. And takes off in the direction it flew in, lips pursed and eyes narrowed, basket swinging from one tightly fisted hand.

She's a giant pink furry woman on a mission - get her Bidoof's candy back.

B - Violet

Goodness! It's been a very eventful night. All these Pokemon going wild...

Rose has been trying to help where she can, as so many seem intent on causing as much upset and distress as they can. Even to other Pokemon! She's still in her one piece Wigglytuff costume, but her own Pokemon are put safely away for the time being.

She's debating bringing one out, however, to help with her latest find. She..she thinks it's a dog Pokemon, one of the ones running mad tonight even. It's hard to tell. It's been shaved entirely and smeared with shaving cream and feathers. It's not having a very good night, and is very cautious of Rose's approach.

"It's alright...I'm Rose. I'd like to help you."

The shaved Pokemon - which is indeed a Poochyena who had been gathering treats - approaches cautiously...then retreats again, whining and growling.

Rose hasn't noticed the skorupi behind her, intent on tricks.

Fuchsia to start - Various places later!

[Noctis sounded just a bit exasperated as he called out after his Tyrannitar as she went stomping down the sidewalk in full a Luchadora-style costume, her cape snapping about behind her as she went. A tiny Eevee dressed up like a Snorlax and a Riolu dressed up like a princess were chasing after the larger Pokemon as Bean, who was dressed like the Queen of Hearts, rumbled after them.

Kids these days.]

At least we won't lose sight of them. [The prince grinned as he said it, pumpkin bucket hooked over his arm as he kept moving down the sidewalk, dressed in a Gyarados hoodie complete with tail.

Because of course he is.] Come on, Bean. Let's make sure Kitty doesn't try to fight anyone for their candy.

[You're night may have been peaceful and full of fun initially but after that loud yelling? You should know it's about to be ruined.

Just moments after the yell is heard a Zorua wearing a red scarf and what looks like some sort of fedora goes darting by, snickering with glee as drags some vines along in his mouth.

Next comes a bright green Espeon dressed up as an alien, hot on the other Pokemon's heels--Get back here!!!--and then the person responsible for the initial yelling.

Noctis is furious and determined to catch his rogue Pokemon but pauses for a moment nonethless--]

[Sasha's too busy being distracted by trying to convince a older lady that yes, regardless of how short her costume's shorts are, it doesn't mean she's not dressed up for the holiday. Who would wear so many straps on a daily basis anyway? (If you're not one of the Titan kids, that is.)

All she wants is a handful of candy, even if it's the crappy non-chocolate chalky ones or a box of raisins like someone else tossed in her pillowcase. Sasha's not here to argue, yet she's doing it anyway and not really able to keep an eye on Omelette who's sitting on the porch step, methodically removing bits of sweets from his little pumpkin bucket in search of the better prizes at the bottom, setting them aside next to him. [Mama and Baby are wearing white gowns covered in colorful polka-dots, each with face-paint and clown noses. While the thought of a very large clown with a flesh pouch in which it carries a smaller clown is existentially horrifying in theory, in practice they actually look absolutely precious.]

[Truck is trotting along with a big old basket in his massive jaws-- that's where all the treats are going! Awkwardly pulled over his rump is a pink tutu and on his back are a set of (child-sized, but comically-small being worn by a Granbull) sparkly "Pinkan Island" costume Butterfree wings.]

[Slime has squeezed her long body into an equally-long half-tube of yellow foam-- that's right, she's a pool noodle.]

[Dirty and Mad are a matching set-- Dirty's in a little blue dress, her ears tied into 'pigtails' and her dainty footpaws squeezed into sparkly red slippers. She's also carrying a basket, but instead of treats, this one contains a Deino that pops out and snarl-barks at passing children. Mad is wearing the googly eyes and angry eyebrows from the Contest Spectacular. This one was definitely Lust's idea-- but who doesn't love The Delphox of Oz?]

[Jelly, of course, is an attention whore as always-- he doesn't need a costume of his own, he's busy transforming into every passing costume that catches his eye.]

[Skin trundles along at the back of the pack, just wearing a traffic cone-- Blackout perches awkwardly atop it, just along for the ride.]

[But the piece de la resistance is Wrath himself, marching at the front in a Zorua onesie-- and behind him, Avari, not wearing an illusion but instead dressed as well as she can be in a shirt, pants, with a cartoony human mask and a pokeball in her long claws-- his trainer!]

[Together, they are either the DELIGHT of each household they approach for treats... or the terror.]

[Because with or without the mischievous influence of the Call, Wrath and his gang have always been willing to vandalize uncharitable houses.]</sub>


B. TRICKS!

<sub>[It's well into the night that he spots it-- following the cries of other children, he sees a scruffy little Poochyena. Not part of a pack but instead very devoted to its solo crime career of stealing shoes right off of peoples' feet. He dances away from a Super Nerd, one of the furry costume boots dangling from his jaws.]

[Wrath stops in his tracks, looking around warily. His Pokemon are still at the door of the last house, with Truck patiently holding the basket as treats are piled into it.]

[He's always hated having to wear shoes, and honestly is probably only wearing them tonight because he was made to before leaving the house.]

[Like many of Wrath's choices, the decision is split-second.]

[He bends down and pulls off one of his shoes.]</sub>

Psssst. Dog.

<sub>[The Poochyena turns around, ears perked. After first standing frozen for a second, he spots the shoe in Wrath's hand and his rumpled tail begins to wag. Dropping the Nerd Boot, he takes a step forward.]

[Wrath checks over his shoulder again, then holds the shoe out enticingly.]

[The Poochyena squints suspiciously, sniffing. He takes one step closer. Then another. He leans in very close, eyes on Wrath the entire time... and then quickly snatches the shoe, turns tail, and runs off down the street.]

[Wrath grins enormously.]</sub>

[Shadowmaru had found himself a costume. They said it was a ninja, but he has his concerns. Oh well. He's been out and about with his pokemon -- Frogadier, Growlithe and Yamask -- observing the festivities, watching the costumes, occasionally getting treats.]

[So when one child runs by, missing a shoe, he decides to give chase. A BP unit must assist, mustn't they?]
