There’s a sour-sweet wind a-blowing this eve as the sun hangs low and red in the sky. The leaves have turned, windows glow like jack-o-lantern eyes, and the streets hum with the excitement that the night will bring. There’s no mysterious trees growing straight out of the concrete this year, and there’s a palpable sense of relief as those who were waiting with bated breath for the other shoe to fall finally set about hanging up last-minute decorations and picking the candy aisles at every PokeMart bare.

It is Halloween, and for the first time in a few years, it would seem nothing is going to get in the way of the holiday.

… At least, right up until the last sliver of sun dips below the horizon.

A flock of Murkrow explodes up from the woods around Violet City, cawing in excitement. On the Sevii Islands, Alolan Rattata pop out of their burrows with bright eyes and quivering noses. In the glens outside Celadon City, the Houndooms start to howl.

Almost as one, all Dark-type Pokemon, big and small, young and old, stop and lift their noses to the crisp breeze. Something ancient tingles in their bones. Oh, tonight...tonight is their night. However much they may love their trainer, something higher is calling them. Mischief! Adventure! CANDY!

It’s time!

Fast or slow, brazen or sneaky, the sunset is the signal for each and every Dark-type to break away from their trainers and run off into the night. To do what? Well what do you think, silly humans? You know what night it is!

Some fashion their own costumes and go door to door earning sweet treats alongside the excited children who are out in droves. Or perhaps they might pursue some more unconventional treat-seeking avenues -- sometimes one man’s trash is another mon’s treat!

But there’s more to Halloween than candy; others will develop a nasty streak and put the ‘trick’ in ‘trick or treat’, upsetting outdoor decorations, frighten childrening and little old ladies, or even pantsing people! The horror! Anything can happen on Halloween!

Even the wild Dark-types are filled with the holiday spirit. Last year everyone was too wrapped up with that Ghost-type nonsense to properly enjoy Halloween, so they’re all too happy to make up for lost time. Harried trainers trying to track down their tricky runaways might find themselves befriending the Poochyenas, Murkrows, or even Alolan Meowths that have come out of the woodwork to celebrate. After all, what good is a grand trick if there’s no one to tell about it? What good is a tasty treat with no one to share? Even trainers who don’t have any Dark-types in their arsenal will find themselves approached by these wild Pokemon and invited to tag along!

[As Wrath and his costumed horde pass by a long hedge lining the sidewalk between one house and the next, they'll hear...a voice, coming from the other side, just loud enough for them to hear.]

[A very familiar voice.]

Wrath! Hey, hold up a second before you go to that one.

_{[Wrath, followed by his CROWD of curious Pokemon, unceremoniously pokes his head through the bushes.]

[DING DONG WHAT IS WRONG]}

[Envy is crouched on the ground behind the bushes, taking advantage of the unlit spot to hopefully not just be seen from the windows of the nearby houses.]

Yeah, me, who else? That house is giving out toothbrushes. And boxes of raisins.

[THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG. Envy's not even trick or treating, but he IS looking for people to mess with, and what better target than a house committing a travesty?]

_{[Toothbrushes, Wrath can appreciate on some level. They're brightly-colored and you can use them for lots of things, like brushing your very small Zubat right between his little ears.]

[But raisins?]

[Wrath and his collective nine Pokemon (minus Slime, because she doesn't have hands) gasp in perfect sync.]}

... We have to stop them.

[EXACTLY the reaction he was hoping for.]

That's just what we're going to do. I'd been trying to figure out what I'd be able to do on my own, but with all of you here...

_{[With some difficulty, Wrath squeezes through the bush. His smaller Pokemon follow suit-- while Mama and Truck opt to stay on the sidewalk. There's not really any inconspicuous way for a Kangaskhan and a Granbull to sneak into someone's yard.]}

What's the plan?

[Envy watches as Wrath just...climbs right on through. He could have gone around. But no, of course he just climbed through. Of course.]

[Envy decides not to comment. There's more important things at stake.]

Hmmm...well, for starters, with all of us we could probably flip their garbage cans upside down so there's no way to move them without spilling all the trash.

But that's not nearly enough of a prank all by itself, not for raisin people. We should really give 'em a scare.

_{[Wrath nods as Envy speaks. Oh yes, trash everywhere, that always seems to upset humans. Very good.]}

Ooh, can we throw rocks through their windows and screech?

I always love doing that.

[Envy's smirk widens.]

Of course we can.

And with Avari here...if she'll make us an illusion for when they run to the window and look outside, something really terrifying to go along with the screeching...

[Lilith had been helping him and Lust with similar all October...but she'd gone and run off tonight.]

YEAH!!

Avari can become their DEEPEST FEAR!

_{[The Zoroark in question raises a slight brow, muzzle wrinking uncertainly for a moment. YOU KNOW, SHE ACTUALLY WAS TRYING TO KEEP WRATH OUT OF TROUBLE TONIGHT...]

[But then again, these are raisin people.]

[She can honestly make an exception for raisin people.]}

[Sorry Avari, there's too many bad influences here right now. Envy counts for at least five bad influences all by himself.]

[Besides. Raisin people.]

There we go, we've got our plan. Let's do the trash cans first...let's make sure to set them near the back door, then if they run out to see all the noise they'll knock them over.

Avari, you can hide us for now too, can't you? Help us out with some stealth?

[Envy and Wrath could probably have snuck anyway, but Mama is here and Too Big.]

_{[The shiny fox nods and briefly closes her eyes before the shadows intensify around them.]
