GHOST TRICK PART ONE: Festival Log!

Log:

The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening (August 15th) of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

The closer you get to midnight on the last night of the festival, the more ghosts pop up.

[It takes no less than two seconds after spotting the Furret for the Ditto to enthusiastically begin transforming. Because whoa, all wrapped around its trainer? That's clearly the coolest thing!

...Tim doesn't agree. He doesn't think it's the coolest thing. Mainly because it catches him completely off guard.

One moment he's just standing there, minding his own business, the next there's just all this extra weight and he's getting pulled right down to the ground.

He wasn't prepared. Not at all.]

Oh my god, why.

[The Ditto!Furret is totally oblivious to how its trainer is suffering and is just making a bunch of happy noises. Still on top of Tim.

It sucks to be him right now.]

[All the commotion naturally draws Joker and Rogue’s attention, and immediately his own genuine Furret is chattering excitedly. Joker, well, Joker stares for a moment before he realizes what’s going on and hurries over.]

Oh hell- are ya alright?

Yeah... Yeah, m'fine, just... got a little crushed.

[And finally Tim's Ditto realizes the issue and hops off its trainer, curiously running around him. Which, thankfully, allows Tim to actually sit up. Right. Well. That wasn't fun.]

Uh. Well. Great to know these things don't just copy appearance, but mass too... Ow.

Ha… And I can imagine how it feels ta have all that mass appearin’ outta nowhere on yerself. It takes a bit ta teach these critters when the proper time and place is.

Can’t help feelin’ a little responsible, since I have a feelin’ I know where yers got the idea.

[Rogue chitters innocently.]

Yeah, my little friend is pretty enthusiastic right now.

[Now that he's actually up again, Tim actually spots the furry creature that landed him in this predicament. Ah. His Ditto just chirps at the real Furret, still totally unconcerned with anything happening here.]

Eh, think this was gonna happen sooner or later. It's been turning into stuff all day, figures eventually that was gonna go wrong.

...Probably could've been even worse, considering how heavy some of these look.

[Like the ones that are all rocky or made of metal? Yeah. Yeah, that would've been bad.]

Still. Want me ta buy ya a drink? It sounds like ya could use it.

[Still managing to do well with his own furry partner, Joker starts to head through the crowd.]

I’m Joker, by the by. Pleasure ta meet ya, even if ya did almost break yer back.

Ah, it's fine. Y'know, it... happens? [...] Okay, it doesn't really, but... Still.

[The slightest pause, just for a moment.]

Jack. Nice meeting you.

Jack, eh?

[Hmmm… Joker rubs his chin, looking thoughtful.]

Don’t suppose ya got a twin, do ya?

Ah... not exactly.

So you must've already met Jack. Uh, the other Jack.

[The douchier Jack.]

We talked about cakes for, what, five minutes. Enough ta remember a face and name, but not much else.

[Very enlightening, that cake conversation. Joker has possibly agreed to jumping out of a cake. You know.]

Huh... Right.

...There's no relation or anything. I'm just his body double.

Huh. Really? Pretty impressive. I thought he was just pullin’ my leg about bein’ so rich and famous, but I guess he’s actually the real deal, ain’t he?

I mean, assumin' ya ain't lying' and yer not secretly his incredibly embarrassed twin brother.

Absolutely not, no.

[Even if there is plenty to be embarrassed about when it comes to Jack.]

I mean, the guy does plenty of boasting, don't blame you for assuming it was just arrogance talking. But he actually is kind of a big deal. Back home, anyway.

Well, I’m sure bein’ here has been a surprise.

[Joker isn’t feeling a little petty and enjoying that kind of scenario, whaaaat, no. Okay maybe a little, and it might show in his drawl.]

[Tim quickly coughs to cover up that laugh. He's definitely not laughing at his asshole boss' misfortune, nope, not him.]

I mean, I wasn't here when he arrived, but yeah, I'll bet. Probably pissed him off a bunch.

[Ssshh, no Tim, c’mon, laugh some more. Getting into the line for a stall that serves alcohol, Joker grins at him.]

Amazin’ folks like him, when they get here, even know how ta get by without meltin’ down and curlin' inta a ball.

Doubt he would've gone quite that far, sadly, but I'm sure the moment he realized he didn't have his company here was... something to see.

[No Hyperion. Anything Jack's doing to rebuild it is just a pale imitation at best. Feels pretty good.]
