GHOST TRICK PART ONE: Festival Log!

Log:

The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening (August 15th) of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

The closer you get to midnight on the last night of the festival, the more ghosts pop up.

Dipper? Are you an orphan from Elpis? No, no, I know you aren't, that...that's just exactly what an orphan on Elpis would be named.

[Jack eyes the set up. This is a pretty classic game, he's seen versions back on Pandora.]

Yeah, there is. That way if anyone calls'em on it, they can say 'oh no, this isn't rigged, look!'. It's like an insurance policy. Let's see...

I mean, there's always punching the carny, but...they kinda frown on that around here.

No, I figured. Elpis is my moon. Well, Pandora's moon, but that whole little corner of the galaxy is mine. Trust me, you don't wanna go to Elpis.

[Lousy craphole. Even the Vault's useless now. Unless there's another one and honestly Jack wouldn't be surprised at this point. His little corner of the galaxy is freaking Vault Central.]

Oh, that is not good, kiddo. You're really doing badly. Alright, move aside.

[Jack laces his fingers and cracks his knuckles. It's just catching a stupid fish, how hard can it be?]

You... own a moon. A whole moon. With people on it.

[What even is this guy. A whole moon? No one can own a moon!

With a sigh, Dipper moves aside to let Jack have his "let an adult show you how it's done" time.]

Well, I mean, I guess? I'm in charge of that whole little quadrant. Saved the moon, saved the planet, my space station's right in between'em...and since the whole shebang was an ungoverened collection of refugees, criminals and the remains of super corps who didn't know how dangerous either place was...somebody has to look after it all, make sure there's laws and order and people aren't shooting each other all the time over stupid crap.

[Like absolutely nothing, which is what it seems like most people on Pandora or Elpis did all damn day. Outside the few pockets of relative civilization.]

[He eyes the fish Pokemon a minute, then turns his attention to the scooping thing. Huh. Yeah, he can see the difficulty here. That...that is not very strong paper, and it's going in water.]

Yeah, I gotta say, I...uh...not sure what the trick is when you're trying to catch a unicorn fish in friggin paper. Leaning towards 'distract the stall guy and just grab one'...

[But the fact that it's apparently near impossible to catch one like this makes Jack want to do it all the more.]

[This guy sounds like a loony. Not a "going to kill you now" loony, bu owning a moon? That's pretty far out there sanity wise. Better be careful with this one in the long run. Don't want to see if crazy rubs off on someone.

[Jack hasn't engaged in any kind of smash and grab deal since he was a kid, but he remembers. You gotta be careful, pick your target, pick your time. This? Not so good.]

Alright, I've done some overestimating here, I'm...I'm probably gonna fail. But this thing is obviously rigged, so I don't even feel bad.

[Time to not catch a fish in front of a twelve year old. Or whatever the kid's age was, he forgets. Which is...exactly what happens. Jack tries to be quick, he tries to be delicate, and while he gets a Goldeen into the scoop...the paper promptly breaks and it swims off.]

....yeah. That's what I figured was gonna happen.
