GHOST TRICK PART ONE: Festival Log!

Log:

The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening (August 15th) of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

The closer you get to midnight on the last night of the festival, the more ghosts pop up.

Heather laughed a little bit-- not unkindly. It probably wasn't surprising, her face looked like the kind that laughed a lot.

"I know what a Cubone is-- they do cry a lot, heh."

She'd owned one herself, briefly.

Poor little Alvaro had been borderline inconsolable without his trainer, and Heather, well... she wasn't the maternal type, and hadn't been able to do much outside of making sure he ate and slept. Passing him back over to Angela had been a relief.

"I meant, what's his name?"

The laughter still knocked Walter out of his thoughts, startling him a little. He drew Assumption closer - in his defence, very few people had laughed genuinely near him, without mocking him in some way at the same time. To him, it seemed like she was laughing at his ignorance. His eyes dropped to the top of the Cubone's head, where it was settling down in the crook of his elbow.

"Assumption."

With no idea how it came off, she couldn't exactly correct Walter's impression.

She quirked a brow at the name, still smiling. Kinda weird, but okay!

"That's an interesting name... this's Cheryl."

She indicated the Eevee in her sleeve, who still seemed a little reluctant to poke her head out too far.

"... Hey, what's the matter, girl?"

Walter was more than fine with Cheryl remaining hidden. Assumption however gave a little cry to her, as if to say hello and coax her out.

"Cheryl." Walter repeated quietly. "It's okay," He addressed Heather. "She doesn't need to come out."

"Yeah, she's just... not normally this shy."

Normally she's all about meeting other playmates, like the friendly little Cubone on this stranger's arm.

But oh well.

Maybe all the noise and commotion was just a little too much for her today.

"Anyway, uh... good luck taking care of Assumption. Cubones can be needy, but... they're also really sweet."

Walter gave her a polite nod before turning, walking away and considering Assumption. 'They're also really sweet'. He touched the nose of Assumption's skull.

They would need to start training soon.
