GHOST TRICK PART ONE: Festival Log!

Log:

The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening (August 15th) of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

The closer you get to midnight on the last night of the festival, the more ghosts pop up.

[She so did, without a single regret. Even though the stand owner is already approaching...but instead of running, she just shows them the faulty net.]

Before you call a completely innocent girl a cheater, please have a look at this. How are we even supposed to catch a fly... [Do they even have flies here, though...] Let alone a Goldeen? This is unfair!

[It's a short speech, but what matters more is that she gets straight to the point quick, all because—]

Look, a ghost!

[Pointing up at the sky, Kaori quickly turns to him and whispers with a mischievous smile lingering on her lips:]

I think we should run.

[He says that in a whisper of his own, but he's already switching to a sprinting position. Adults, honestly. He does make sure not to outpace Kaori, though.]

How long have you been planning that one? Do you even have names in mind for them?

[melodlies]

[The chance that they're going to be chased are really small, or so she thought...and she wasn't wrong, actually. And yet...she's still running, just in case.]

Me? Planning something?

[It's difficult to hold back the chuckle.]

Wouldn't you like one of them, by the way?

Ah, of course not. My apologies for even daring to raise the possibility.

[All that running feels nice. Almost like those old missions when he first joined Bisidian, but without the risk of dying or the coworker trying to get him killed. He likes that.]

Thanks, but I'll pass. After that dazzling display of cunning, I'm sure they'd complain if they were raised by anyone but you. Even trainers should prove their worth to their Pokémon, no?

[melodlies]

Now, that's better.

[There's no trace of annoyance in her voice; she's just proud that her no plan was a success.]

And you do have a point. Well, they should be grateful too. That pool didn't really look like a good place for so many Goldeens in the first place.

You've got a point. I know these festivals only last a few days, but still... What do they even do with the fish, once it ends? Throw them back in a river, keep them in a pond until the next party?

[Will the rest be fine? Should they go rescue them? Is fish liberation considered a crime, and how much effort would the Jennies put into punishing it? ...None of that would be a problem with a mobile suit.]

[melodlies]

[That...she didn't think of that at all! Maybe that's why she's way more upset than she should be?]

Catching them must be really time-consuming...so I doubt they just release them.

[Which leaves only one option.]

That's why someone else has to release them, am I right?

Of course. Being stuck in limited and unchanging space is bad enough when it's your own choice. Those poor things must have been forced there ages ago, realizing quickly that most people wouldn't manage to win, knowing they'd probably be stuck there at the end of the day.

[Now he's starting to regret not freeing the others. Those poor fish...]
