GHOST TRICK PART ONE: Festival Log!

Log:

The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening (August 15th) of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

The closer you get to midnight on the last night of the festival, the more ghosts pop up.

[As he looks at the scrappy Aron prancing a victory circle around the Gastly. Who's probably reciting Hamlet in Gastly speak.]

But let me guess. It's in the manual?

Usually. If I ever had one a these myeslf, I’d tell ya tips, but I’ve never had a Pokemon like yers.

[Meanwhile, the Gastly has just, collapsed. But it cracks an eye open to look pointedly at the humans, like what are you waiting for?]

[At least one person isn’t missing the cue, and Joker snickers to himself as he nudges Shiro.]

[The answer gets a sort of embarrassed chuckle.]

Well. Ask a stupid question...

[Needless to say, when Shiro just sort of tosses the ball toward the Gastly, it all but rolls dramatically into it, the ball growing still almost instantly.]

... there's no way it's always that simple.

[The observation earns a boisterous laugh from Joker, but it’s not a mocking one at least.]

Definitely not! That one, they wanted ta come with ya it looked like, so it wasn’t that hard. But if some of ‘em don’t think you’ve earned it or just want ta play hard ta get, they can break outta the Pokeball sometime. The more expensive ones help reduce the chance of it happenin’, I think, but I’ve never really tried ‘em myself.

Me? Not serious? Why ever would ya think that?

[Not like he’s decked out in an obnoxiously colorful yukata and introduced himself as Joker or anything. He laughs again at his own joke.]

But I’m serious as anythin’! We’ve been here for a couple of years now, and there’s just about anythin’ ya could want for. We got the big shows, ‘course, but there’s plenty of games, food… We even let folks set up shop in some of the stalls, and they sell things they make.

[He gives this guy another look, and absently runs his hand through his hair, a little embarrassed.]

[Sorry, though, he knows the rest of that is important, and bears remembering for later. But when you've been in space for who knows how long, surviving on green goo--]

... What kind of food?

Whatever ya can make in a stall, mostly. Lemme see…

[He starts to count on his fingers.]

Burgers, hotdogs, those are normal I think, but also takiyaki which are these little balls a fishmeat on a stick, and this other stuff that’s a soft bread with things like chocolate fillin’ in them… Ice cream in the hotter months, but since we’re headin’ towards fall, that’ll probably change…

[Giving up, he shrugs and makes a lazy gesture.]

Easier ta come and look through the place yerself!

[There is literally nothing on that list that doesn't sound like heaven. Honestly, he about cried over a granola bar the other day, so maybe this isn't too odd. When you've lived on green goo and whatever the Galra handed out, it's a huge step up.]

I... think I need to do that. Probably sooner than later.
