Prom 2023 - Back to the Falls!

What’s this? There’s glitter in the air. What’s this? There’s dresses everywhere.

Oh right. It’s Prom time.



From the afternoon on, on Friday the 7th of April, your characters will all be arriving at Tohjo Falls via the transport arranged for by Lance. He did end up borrowing a few of those Corviknights from the JKBA, but there are also several of you who will find themselves flown to the Falls by one of Lance’s Dragonites or Charizards. Please give them a poffin if you are able, they are all very good boys and girls.


Your characters will be set down on a tiled driveway (more like flyway, Ha) in front of an impressive-looking villa. Those who have been here before might note that the villa has gotten a bit of a renovation and an update. Turns out that when Team Rocket kidnaps you and keeps you captive in your own home for several weeks while wrecking the house and digging Arceus knows how many basements beneath the house, you might be entitled to some compensation.

And from the looks of things, Lance and co used that compensation to turn their little vacation home back into something where they can relax in peace.

After you arrive, you’ll be greeted by Lance or one of the other Elite Four members, who will give you a quick run-down. You are free to explore the house and surrounding area at your leisure. Please respect their privacy and do not go into any of the locked rooms. You’ll find your accommodations behind the house, so feel free to head there and unpack. Oh, and, there will be a little announcement later, so if you could be in the dining room for that, that’d be stellar.

WELCOME (BACK) TO THE FALLS

THE SIGHTS The Villa As mentioned by Lance and Co, parts of the villa are off-limits to guests. Not to worry, there is nothing nefarious hiding there this time. It's just that those rooms are the Elite Four's private quarters, and they'd rather not have people go through their underwear drawers! Other areas that are off-limits include the kitchen, but this is just for practical reasons; wouldn't want to get in the way of the cooks preparing lunch and dinner. Still, even with these off-limits areas, there is still plenty to see. Library On the upper floor, there is a decently sized Library for anyone who needs a bit of peace and quiet. The books within are part of the Elite Four's personal book collections. There are a lot of books related to each members' preferred Pokemon type, as well as a very sizeable collection of books on Pokemon Battling, strategies and counter-strategies, in addition to a good number of autobiographies from famous (former) gym leaders and Elite Four members. Their books aren't all business though! There is also plenty of fiction available, as well as non-fiction related to the Elite Four's personal hobbies. The books are not marked, so it's hard to tell which book belongs to which E4 member, so have fun trying to figure out who added the books on glassblowing to the collection, and to who the knitting books belong to. Gallery Also on the top floor is a gallery that contains the many prizes each Elite Four member has won over the years, as well as some interesting artefacts they've found during their lives. Ever wanted to see Lance's first badges? Or perhaps Bruno's weightlifting trophies? And wow, looks like Will participated in some contests back in the day! Okay, those things probably aren't worth hours of visiting, but there is also a collection of photos of various legendary pokemon, as well as some items related to them, such as a feather that is said to have belonged to Ho-oh, a scale that was left behind after Groudon and Kougre fought and could it be true? One of Hoopa's hoops itself? Fascinating! Dining Room Obviously where characters can dine. Unfortunately, the dining room itself is not big enough to fit all characters at once, so they've also set up some tables outside among the tents, and people are asked to check back if there is no space. When not in use to have dinner in, the room is left open and available to anyone who'd like to use it. Ball Room Now that prom night is finally here, your characters may enter in what was previously forbidden. Yes, beyond these doors lay a mysterious land of, uh... tables and a dance floor. Listen, there is only so many ways you can describe a ballroom, okay! There is a central floor where people may dance if they so desire, and around that spot, plenty of tables and chairs have been set up for you to rest your tired dancing feet at. Though there is no big dinner served at prom, there are staff flitting around with refreshments and canapes and, fitting the style of the villa, tapas. There are, of course, also flutes of champagne and wine and other adult drinks. Note the emphasise on adult, there. Don't expect to con these waiters into giving you something if you are underaged. (instead, try and find a trusted, untrustworthy adult friend. It's okay. We won't tell your mom. Pool Outside, of course, is the pool. This hasn't changed that much from previous visits here. It's... well... it's a pool! What more can we say? It's a good place to have some fun and play around, but if you are more into relaxation or perhaps even catching some rays, there's also plenty of space around the pool with plenty of deck chairs available to you. It is still only April, so to make sure nobody catches pneumonia in the pool, the water has been heated. Please do not heat the water further. You know what we are talking about! The Accomodations Those who have visited before may remember that the Villa doesn't exactly have enough bedrooms to house all promgoers. In fact, there have been years where you just kipped on the floor in the garage-like area. Maybe Lance is trying to match the standards set by previous organisers. Maybe there was a little extra money left over after the renovations to plurge, but this year, you won't be expected to sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag! Instead, behind the Villa, beyond the pool area, there is a field of tents. And these aren't your basic little travelling tents. These tents look pretty luxurious. True, you will still be sharing them with a few others, but at least you'll be sleeping in something like a regular bed. There are also some chairs and benches dotted around the area, where you can sit and relax, as well as a few open tents that have tables and benches inside of them where one could eat breakfast or dinner. (And, of course, there are tents available too where you can take care of the, ah, less glamourous needs of the human body. No need to bring your own TP either, it will be provided!) The tents house four people each. If you, for whatever reason, want to cram more people inside, Lance will be a little startled but will allow it. If you try to grab a tent all to yourself, Lance will give you a very disappointed look. The Surroundings If your character isn't the type to hang out for hours by the pool or spend their entire Saturday already getting ready for prom, why not go exploring a bit? The area around Tohjo Falls is normally off-limits to people, after all. This might be your only chance to see it. (unless we come back again here next year) While exploring, your character has the option of trekking into the forests behind the villa or descending into the cave that houses the waterfalls this area has been named for. Wild pokemon can be found in each area, though please be careful! As few people visit this location, the pokemon here are very unused to humans. Please always bring a strong pokemon with you when you go exploring! And who knows, if you keep an eye out, you might run into an unfamiliar pokemon or two... THE ANNOUNCEMENT


Once everybody has arrived and has been given some time to unpack, it's time for the announcement Lance has been teasing. What is this unique opportunity he mentioned? Will this have anything to do with prom itself? Has Lance conned us all into attending a Tupperware party?

In any case, you all gather in the dining room. The Elite Four is gathered at the front of the room, Lance taking the center stage. Will is standing next to him. For a moment Lance just glances out over the crowd, as if checking that everybody is here, before he clears his throat and begins.

"First of all, let me say that I am very happy to see you all here. It's been a few years since we last were able to greet you in our home, and here is to hoping things won't end as badly as last time.

But that is not what this announcement is about. Rather, there is going to be some changes within the Elite Four. Changes we'd like to make you a part of.

A few months ago, Will announced to us that he will be stepping down from his position as Elite Four member to--" Lance seems to pause for a moment, looking at Will, "--pursue opportunities elsewhere!

Of course, we cannot leave his spot unoccupied, so in the last few months, we've been hard at work vetting and narrowing down the choices for who will replace him. And finally, we've been able to narrow it down to just two remaining candidates. It's been a struggle, let me tell you! We've had so many qualified and incredible trainers who wanted to join us, but we believe we've found the best two.

And that is where you come in!

As I said, we have been able to narrow down the field to two final choices. And what I'd like to offer you this weekend, is an opportunity to take an active part in deciding who gets to be our newest member. You all, after all, have proven over the years that you not only care about pokemon, but you've also grown to care about this world, often helping us out when situations were dire. We believe you, as much as anyone, have a right to determine the future of this region.

In just a moment, I'd like to introduce you to our two final applicants. I can already assure you that they are both excellent trainers, and very skilled battlers, as well as individuals who we believe we can rely on in a bad situation. What we'd like if for you to cast the final vote on who takes over Will's position.

Throughout this weekend, they will make themselves available for questions. Please ask them anything you wish to know, and please also discuss the manner among yourself if you wish. Whichever person you choose, know that we already feel we could work and depend on either of them. At the end of this meeting, we'll distribute voting slips to everyone. These cannot be replaced, so please hold onto them, and once you've made your choice, please submit them to the vote box in front of the Ballroom before the start of the dance. Then, during the party on Sunday, we will reveal who will become our newest members.

Now, I've said quite enough, so let me introduce you to our two final applicants--"

[While Tristan hadn't been the greatest fan of their host's selected method of transportation he supposed that flying around on the back of a pokémon was just something that he was going to have to get used to. Now that both feet were on the ground, that jubilant sensation that something big was just over the horizon started to course through his veins. A party could have some life-changing consequences, if he managed to make a good impression that is.

So it was with a light heart and a positive attitude that he scouted out the area with Serenity as they looked for a place to crash.]

The card didn't say anything about assigned bunks or anything... so I think we just have to find someone who is willing to room with us.

[He explained as he proceeded down the path.]

Hey, these are pretty swanky, huh? Check out those high ceilings.

[Something you just didn't get when traveling normally. It was finally going to happen. Tristan was going to be sharing a tent with Serenity~. With.... 2 other people, so not all that romantic... but it was something!]

Dining Room | Smorgasbord | OTA

I know exactly what you're thinking...

[Tristan sighed as he exchanged a glance with the chimchar fidgeting on the ground near his legs as the pair tried to wait patiently for their chance to peruse the available comestibles.]

.. because I'm thinking it too. What's it take to get a little food around here.

[Although the statement was one of frustration, it had no energy to it when it was voiced. He was just too exhausted from hunger- or being overly dramatic.]

But our host put all of this together, so we just need to be grateful for it, alright? [He reminded his Pokémon as he waggled an index finger through the air] We'll get our chance..... hey, Ape! Where are you-?! [Tristan reached down to try and seize the monkey but it was too late. "Ape" was already darting through the gaps between legs so it could cut to the front of the line. Heck, it might even bring something back for Tristan!] I'm sorry, excuse me... runaway monkey! If you could just.... [Tristan tried to follow after, but there was just no getting through the mob for him.]

[Evie's ears prick up. A new game! Immediately she runs after Ape. Yay, Tag!

Radley slaps his forehead.]

Oh gosh. Evie, no! Come back!

[He hurries after Evie, but runs into the same problem as Tristan. He's getting some Looks as he tries to follow.]

Hey, it's not like we're trying to cut in line!

[The commotion at his side, has Tristan briefly distracted from his original task. He knows that Pokémon that went rocketing after his chimchar.]

Not yours too-! Must be something they ate... or .. didn't eat.

[He amended when he placed a hand to his rumbling stomach. Turning his attention back to the crowd he joins in the shouting.]

What he said, didn't you see those two Pokémon racing by you?! Let us through!

[crystalmaster]

It's more like she thinks he's playing a game. She does this a lot when she thinks she can get a game out of it.

[Finally some people made a space and Radley squeezes through, looking around for his sweet Pokemon. It looks like she's chasing Ape to the head of the line.]

Oh boy.

For ape, it's definitely hunger. That guy can pack away almost as much food as I can.

[It's said a bit tongue and cheek but with real affection. He's gotten a bit closer to his Pokémon since they last spoke.

A nudge here, a push there and Tristan pops out beside Radley]

How bad is it, can you see them?

Oh dear.

It looks like they're almost to the food.

[Radley winces and tries to hurry over. Evie is warbling cute and wagging her tail. Radley chuckles and reaches to pick her up.]

Come on, pretty girl. We have to wait our turn for the food.

Library | Not Really a Bookworm | OTA

[Since the villa was open to visitors, Tristan had to at least look into all the available rooms. It's not like anyone else was going to open up their house to so many strangers along the various routes. When he came to the library, he poked his in through the doorway and just stood there.]

Wow- they sure have a lot of books in here.

[That was it. Could he have probably stood to learn or thing or two from the carefully maintained tomes? Probably. Was he going to make the attempt? Not.a.chance.]

Wonder if they all belong to the same guy- or if it's a combined collection. I doubt that anyone's even read half of them...

[Marik doesn't pay much attention when Tristan enters the room. He and Chen have been trying to sort through the books for the past half hour, hoping to find something that actually caught their interest. It dawns on him who that voice belongs to and his adrenaline immediately picks up. Sure, he had planned on approaching the brunette sometime during the party but now...

Hm. Maybe it is better that it's now. The two are alone with no Serenity or Joey in sight. This isolated encounter could work to his advantage.

That dark little smirk gets a glare from the Yamask, who shakes his head in a reprimanding manner.]

[... Right. Trying to better himself. Be honest or at least be genuine.

Maybe he can stretch those meanings a bit at the moment as he gets a better feel for what time period Yugi's cheerleader is from. He looks up from his book and offers a faux but perfectly acted surprised smile as he lays his eyes on Tristan.

What was his name again? Shit. Bakura knew it. Ugh. What did he say it was... Terry... Trent?]

... Tristan? Is that you?

[As Marik is having his crisis of conscience, Tristan is just about ready to move on to the next attraction. Hearing that particular voice stops him mid-step though. Rocking back on his heels, he turned back towards the library and stepped through the doorway.]

No way, Marik! You're here too?

[Sure enough, there was a guy matching the image he recalled from his memories. Maybe there was a different accessory here or there but he'd never forget that face.]

Last I saw you it was at Battle City.

[... but it should be noted that the brunette didn't sound all that upset by the encounter. No, he was more curious than on the defensive.]

[It's hard to forget someone as exotic looking as him. He's dressed much more snazzy than before this time. Seems his arm accessories are being worn by his Yamask, or at least a smaller version.

He wants to panic but he focuses on Tristan's tone to figure out where his standings are. The guy sounds happy to see him, well maybe not happy, but there doesn't seem to be any malice to his voice.

Marik swallows and gives Chen a quick glance before returning his attention to Tristan.]

Y-Yeah. Same here.

[The Yamask mutters something to him and waggles the book he's holding. The blonde winces in response.]

I'm surprised to see you. Did you... recently arrive?

[Chen shakes his head and audibly sighs, going back to reading. Marik's going to bend the truth regardless of what he tells him. He tried at least.]

[Doesn't Bakura have one of those creepy looking Pokémon too? With decidedly less bling, but still.

Oblivious to the other's apprehension, Tristan walks over and plops down on a chair across from the familiar face. He did so backwards, in order to cross his arms over the back of it and rest his head atop those limbs. Might as well take a load off.]

Wild isn't it? I mean, I thought I'd see you again when we got to Egypt but I'm running into you here instead.

[The Ishtars were set to meet them after they arrived, but Tristan never made it there with the gang.]

No one told you I was here? Huh. Guess word doesn't travel fast.

[He looked to the huffy pokemon then back, not understanding the exchange.]

How the heck are you?

[Ryou has a shiny one!

Marik watches with slightly arched eyebrows as the other Duelist joins him. At first he very uncertain of the guy just joining him but as that little gremlin mind of his whirrs, he realizes that may be a good thing. Either Tristan is completely chill with him or he's about to give him a stern talking to.

The fact that they continue the conversation as normal as possible has him believing it might just be the former. That's good. That's very good. Means he worried for nothing and can report in to Hunk, Shy, and Allura about his progress.]

Heh, yeah... I was... actually on my way back to Egypt when I found myself here.

[He offers a remorseful smile.]

I've been a bit busy the past few months. Haven't paid much attention to the network or spoken with the others.

[Chen glances up from his book when Tristan looks at him, giving him a little nod.

Marik's features soften as he thinks over his to answer the brunette's small talk. All in all, his life has been good here.]

I've been doing really well, honestly. Switched from trainer to breeder last month, been working on all sorts of projects...

[Romance life going pretty well too but he doesn't need to know that.]

How about you? Have you been adjusting to this world alright?

[rolltoavoidpossession]

They sure do.

[Ryou walks up behind Tristan, a Meowstic hanging off his shoulder and staring unblinkingly.]

I think it's combined. There's too many to belong to just one person, unless someone is a really big bookworm.

[Turning to face the other guy:]

Oh hey, Bakura!

[True to form, Ryou appears when he is least expected. At least this time it's in person so there's no pokégear to have to fumble with.]

That's.... a different Pokémon than I last saw you with. Who's this guy?

[Or gal?]

That's a valid point. There's probably something useful in here too. [There's a hint in his tone that says, he'd rather be anywhere else.] Oh, were you going in? [He steps aside to allow clearance.]

Oh? That's Nekomata, she's a Meowstic. [Ryou reaches up to pet Nekomata, who purrs happily.

Getting the hint that Tristan does not want to be here, he backs up a bit, signalling that he's willing to go elsewhere.]

I was mostly just looking around, I'll probably come back later. How have you been doing, by the way?

[They haven't spoken too much since Tristan got here, and only via the Gear.]

A Meowstic, huh. [It's definitely the first one of it's type that he's seen.] Sorry about calling you a guy. [To Nekomata]

[While he doesn't have anything against books in theory, he's just not looking to get cooped up in one place just yet.]

That's what I was doing too. Not sure how long they'll let us just snoop around their place, so might as well do it now. [He added in jest] Oh, uh- I'd say I've been doing prettty well for myself. [Considering his travelling companion and the lack of any world-scale disasters, he couldn't be better!] Got a few Pokémon here and there, got to see some of the sights...

.. haven't really gotten into that gym challenge thing yet, but there's no rush, right? What about you?

Oh, man. I hope this doesn't look too casual.

[Tristan had committed to the look earlier but now as he lingered outside the ballroom door he had time to question it. For a little while he fussed with the jacket, debating whether he should ditch the vest or locate a tie before he eventually exhausted himself on the subject and just decided to let well enough be.

The source for his anxiety, should be along soon and the last thing he wanted was to loudly project his dip in self assurance to his date. Was this a date? It felt like a date. Had he remembered to actually ask her to go with him? He thought so, but it was all kind of a blur now. Taking a deep breath, he gazed down at the two Pokémon at his feet. Ape, his Chimchar, was sporting a black tie and after a lengthy discussion had decided to be on his best behavior and not dive bomb any food trays. The unfortunately named Anna Banana, his Skitty, was also wearing a bow around her neck in red.]

Wish me luck, guys.

[Putting his shoulders back, and trying not to fixate on... anything else he awaited the arrival of Serenity.]

( serenity's feeling pretty nervous. she's gotta wait for the gentlemen to be out of the tent before she ( and mai ) start piecing together their respective prom outfits. the older blonde can tell that the younger wheeler is feeling a bit stressed out so she helps her with her hair for the night. with thanks, serenity is off to the prom with her eevee partner following her. she's still nameless for now. serenity feels she'll grant her a name when the perfect one comes to her!

she gently moves a curtain as she steps into the room, looking around shyly as her hands brush the tuft of her dress to give them something to do. swallowing a lump, she spots tristan and feels a little calmer to see him there. serenity's sort of in the same boat -- is this a date? should she be calling it one? she takes a few nervous steps toward her traveling companion and notes the pokemon with their adorable little neck ties. she smiles, using them as an anchor to keep her calm. )

Aww, Ape and Anna Banana look so cute with their little accessories.

( so far, so good! she hasn't tripped up over her own two feet or wobbled on her heels, at least. she's totally nailing it. serenity smiles at her friend and motions a hand toward him, indicating his new digs. )

You look so nice, Tristan! That really suits you.

[Traveling companion- it was so painfully accurate that it would have felt like a metaphorical arrow being stabbed through his heart if he had been able to hear the thought. Maybe it would have been some comfort to him to know that Serenity was questioning whether this was a date or not too.... and she still showed up for it. If she thought it could be a date, then she wouldn't have bothered coming just to give him a stern wakeup call! But alas, he was lost to his own thoughts same as she was lost to hers.

As she approached him, it's like Tristan was seeing a vision. The other colors in the room almost seemed muted as she gracefully glided over in her shimmering purple dress. It was just the thing to contrast with her red hair. Where exactly.. had she found a hairdresser out here? He definitely should have worn a tie. He found himself initially tongue-tied though he knew he should inform her as to how gorgeous she was looking this evening.

The bows on the Pokémon were working as intended though! They were totally meant to be a charming distraction for the lady that appreciated cute things.]

Heh he- yeah, I thought it would be a nice touch. It is a formal afterall.

[It's up to Serenity to steer the conversation back towards the human's attire.]

Thanks- I uh... I mean, there aren't enough words in the dictionary to describe how elegant and refined you look.

( of course she shows up for the date/not-date! it would be very rude not to but more importantly: she very much wants to be there with tristan. maybe don't tell joey though. it's no secret to her that tristan has feelings for her -- it's sort of obvious the way that he and duke used to bicker over her ( sometimes literally ) but serenity's never been sure how to show what she feels in return. going on a date ( or not date! ) is a good way -- or so she thinks. it's not going to show anything if neither one of them know if it's a date ( or not date!! ) in the first place.

silly tristan, mai was the one who did her hair for her. the woman has many talents after all. the bows do exactly as intended and initially distract her from complimenting his attire but she gets there! and it's true, tristan looks very nice tonight so she thought it best to let him know. )

I guess it is! Now I feel like I should have given my pokemon some cute accessories too. Oh well!

( and so she does! but when he pays her a compliment in turn, her entire face goes about as red as her hair. her palms cover her cheeks and her stomach reels with butterflies. it's not too much, per se but it is definitely a bit overwhelming to be told something like that! )

T- Tristan! That's-- you're so nice! Th- Thank you!

[Excuse me. Nothing that Serenity has ever done, or will do in the future could ever be considered rude. Even if she had left him hanging he would have taken it as her trying to let him down as gently as possible. In his eyes- this girl could do no wrong. In reality, everyone was capable of making a mistake here or there and maybe he needed to tone down the tint on the rose-colored glasses he reserved only for her...

... but then again, Serenity had literally never let anyone down. Ever. So. Moot point.

If only he knew, that she knew, that he liked her so he might act on it. Somehow he was more oblivious than she was on matters of the heart and legitimately thought she hadn't picked up on the jealous overtones that had previously been shot between him and his former romantic rival. Why did love have to be so complicated?!]

You didn't dress yours up?

[Looking down to her Eevee and back.]

I.. might have a spare ribbon or two if you want them, they're yours. [One can't simply buy one ribbon. They come in packs] .. but I don't think anyone will worry about it, and Eevee can't get much cuter than she is.

[The color that flashes over her cheeks only seems to compliment her all the more. Guess, staying up half the night trying to think of what to say paid off! There was no way he could have fielded that completely on the fly. Sure, he might have tweaked a word here or there to suit.. like refined was a new addition mostly inspired by her new hairdo.]

I'm not just being nice you know, it's the truth.

[Ok. Now. What. Does. He. Do.

Anna Banana mewed up at him and then gently bumped into his leg. It was meant to be encouraging.]

Ready to head into the ballroom? [He offered up an arm for her to latch onto, if she wanted to.. maybe.. so they could check out the spread together.]

( he really does have rose tinted glasses where she's concerned but as far as she knows, she hasn't done anything to hurt someone. she hopes not anyway!

it's sort of a shame that he doesn't realize that she knows because it would put something of an end to this "will they/won't they" indecision if he could just act on it. she's far too shy to do so herself and he's too nervous. they're doomed. it's plain to see that duke definitely has feelings for her so when tristan starts to butt heads with him when it concerns herself, serenity figured things out. it's cute! but she's not sure how to tell him that she knows. )
