4th Match // [video / action] Route 38 (November 1st)

[Today's video is focused on a Blaziken - the tall bird is reclining peacefully on the ground not too far from what seems to be a road, head propped on one hand-like claw, and very patiently tolerating a small yellow Charmander using it as a living climbing structure.

The Blaziken only moves when the Charmander starts to wobble, reaching out to steady it with its free claw.

The touching scene is sadly interrupted when the guy behind the camera speaks up, his voice a grumbling yet concerned growl:]

Torch dragons are orange. Is this one sick?

[Or, well, heavier, anyway. The two will actually be about the same size otherwise, but, details.]

[Or claws, or sharp edges...what are you talking about, Athena?]

I meant that they're more capable of battling than most of the other creatures you can find around here.

[Okay, yeah, he hears her on that. Murder Chicken's been devastating the local wildlife for weeks now, so that Krieg's back to using his own body as his little buddy's punching bag. Which, of course he doesn't mind, but even he runs out of stamina after so long.]

Gotta go far away to find stronger ones.

[But he's not going anywhere unless Angel goes too, and, even then, he's not going anywhere unless she's also strong enough to travel.]

[Athena won't lie, the idea sounds appealing. Staying in Ecruteak this long hadn't... been as bad as she had expected it to be. It was almost nice. But it's hard, being in one place for too long. She needs to just... get out on the road for a while.]

We should ask the others what they think.

[He's quiet for a moment, eye narrowed thoughtfully as he processes her remark.]

Road trip?

Sure, why not? Anything that happens can't be worse than the last road trip I was on.

[... you know, the one that ended in her confronting the last Atlas employee on Pandora, getting the shit beat out of her by Brick and Mordecai, and getting shot in the face with a triple-shot rocket launcher.

Fun times.]

[There aren't going to be any Vaults or Warriors or, hopefully, Handsome Jacks on the Poké-land road trip.

Though if there is a Handsome Jack, Krieg will punch him into a bloody pulp.]

[Somebody's already excited, even if he's not expecting as much excitement this time around.]

[Geez, what is her life now, setting up a road trip with a psycho... weird.]

We should start back at Violet. That gym challenge should provide some kind of entertainment when we're not on the road.

[Better than fighting wild animals in the woods, at least.]

[That perks him up a bit - well, even more than he already was, anticipating a road trip. Someone was just saying something about the gym challenge...!]

Professor Nerdlord talked about the gym challenge! Sounds like a slaughter dome with no slaughter, but fun anyway!

[Krieg has exactly two pokemon and a tenuous-at-best grasp on the type match-up system this crazy planet's got worked into its biology, but he's not going to let that stop him!]

Precisely.

[Living vicariously through their pokemon as they pit them against incredibly strong opponents for money and glory? Totally a good coping method for the ones who miss the thrill of blood and battle. Janey and Angel will totally be proud.]

I hear there are more facilities like that to the east, as well. We won't be short on challenges for some time.

[BRING IT ON!!!]

[And now for the little kid impatience portion of your Psycho broadcast...]

We aren't going anywhere until the rest of our companions are informed first. Not that i expect any protests, but they should know what our plans are before a spontaneous cross-country trip.

[Translation: gotta make sure the wife and kid are cool with it. Athena may or may not be a little whipped.]

[That...actually settles him right back down. He won't go without Angel, and if Angel's not feeling up to it then he's not going anywhere anyway, but...he does think she may be ready to something like that. He hopes, anyway.]

Mngh...! Fine.

[He may grumble, but he knows she's right.]

Gotta talk about it soon, then! Tonight!

[A psycho with a sense of patience, however short it may be... Krieg himself doesn't really surprise her anymore, but it's still weird. Weird, but hardly something she's going to scoff at, so she gives him a nod.]

Right. There's no point in waiting much longer than that.

Yessssss!

[And now he's back to fidgety impatient excitement. It's a good thing he's already outside with MC and the new dragon baby, and can get to work on burning off all that extra energy.]

We'll talk more tonight! And the torch dragon can play with the fang dragon!

[Play. Right. Athena has a feeling that, by the time the two of them are fully grown, their play would be one big intimidating brawl.

Not that she minds that at all, though.]

I've been wondering when to start training Typhon. If your new companion is ready, he should be too.

[This is the first baby pokemon she's had, but they seem go to go right off the bat, so... she doesn't see a problem here.]

[And once they're big enough, Krieg will be joining in the ~~brawl~~ play, too.

For now, though, he looks away from Athena's face on the video feed and back towards his newly hatched dragon baby. It's still clumsily crawling its way up and down Murder Chicken's patient form, and looks to be having the time of its life.]

It can have a few days to be a baby if it wants. [He shrugs, and looks back to Athena.] Or not! I'll tell you when it knows!

[Murder Chicken had been pretty emphatic when he'd been ready to start fighting; based on that Krieg suspects Torch Dragon might do the same.]

["It can have a few days to be a baby". As a native Pandoran, and one who was thrown into a world of assassination and torture before she even learned how to ride a bike, that's... a really alien sentence right there. Kind of funny, in a morbid way.]

Never thought I'd hear that coming from a Pandoran, let alone a psycho.

[She doesn't really judge him for that anymore, but it is still weird hearing a psycho talking about helping a baby and not... you know. Eating it.]

Pfmnahahahaha! I bet there's more where that came from!

["More" in the sense of surprising words and phrases that will eventually leave Krieg's mouth. Maybe at one time he had been more or less indistinguishable from other Psychos, but that had been before he'd met Maya and the other Vault Hunters and joined them to stop Handsome Jack's bullshit scheme for "civilizing" Pandora. And, obviously, that was well before he'd made friends with a small orange chicken baby who had provided him with an entirely new feeling of companionship.]
