[It is not a quiet place, to a psionicist. There are a great deal of wild pokemon here--who do not under any circumstances want to approach him--but a larger, greater mind is watching him. The Forest itself. It, too, seems to be in no hurry to poke the small elf-shaped grenade, but sooner or later an Absol appears to yip at him, not long before the Beast herself appears.

She is not aggressive, mostly following the feel of the Forest's unease, only to find a familiar scent. His appearance is odd but Jarlaxle prepared her for this. And the scent...]

Ah. Kimmuriel.

[Well, sure is Naeva's voice.]

[ The clamor of hundreds of smaller minds, the contrast of a larger and quieter one. For once he can say it is a pleasant feeling, to have his skull so crowded. He has missed his psionics dearly.

His ears twitch a little at Naeva's voice. His own Absol yips back quietly, following at his heels faithfully. ]

Did you have some business with me?

No. But the Forest found your presence strange enough to call me to it.

[It called her to him. That implies the Forest sees her as a guardian, if nothing else. She makes a quiet, yipping noise to his Absol--reassurance, largely, that she is merely enjoying the comfort of this form.]

But you don't appear to be lost, or inclined to take axe or flame to any of the trees, so there is no cause for it's caution, is there?

Perhaps it is simply unused to another presence that can sense its mind. [ He naturally assumes Naeva is able to feel it - she is clearly attuned to it, after all, for it to call to her and for her to respond.

Kimmuriel's Absol sniffs at this strange, shape-changed person, wagging its tail slowly. They understand, even if they don't quite know why. ] Or because I hold a great deal of power, perhaps, though I have no reason to turn it onto this place.

A little of both, I suspect. The Forest cannot solve problems without...escalation.

[After a moment, she lets her form return to being at least somewhat person-shaped. Towering that much over people was putting a crick in her neck--]

Your...power does not return to the world around you when used, does it? That would also make you odd, to the Forest.

[ He shakes his head. ] It is entirely internal - a product of the mind. It is simply harnessing what already exists - any person is a store of energy. They simply cannot use it as a psionicist can.

Your magic works differently, then. Do you draw from nature, as a druid does?

As a Witch...my domain is over Life, one might say. Over the essential flow...typically, it is what rests in your veins. Every single thing that lives has something that carries it...and the Forest lends all of it's power to mine, wherever I may go. There has been exactly one exception, to date.

[She shrugs a little.] But it is simpler. Here, mana is also intrinsically part of our bodies. In blood, exhaled though the breathe, absorbed by the skin...those who use magecraft cycle it back faster, but it all returns to soil and dust, like anything else.

[Naeva pauses for a long moment, and tilts her head.]

Trees are not exactly quick to process new information. They wouldn't really have to be.
