Razor Crest

[While Mando has been busy kicking the metaphorical tires on the Razor Crest, he hasn't paid as much attention to what is inside the hulking heap of metal.

Which is a child.

The child.

The very hungry, hungry child.

Grogu wakes up in the nest of blankets on Mando's bunk (it is a good thing he is there and not the little hammock Mando fashioned him; he'd be trapped there, unable get up to Things), rubbing the last traces of sleep out of his big eyes. His ears droop for a moment as he tries to figure out why he woke up, but a loud growl from his stomach quickly solves that particular mystery.

A quick glance around shows that the Mandalorian is not inside the ship, so Grogu slides off the bunk (little feet kicking in the air for a moment before he lands with a thump) and sets off to find him. He's not in the front of the ship (but Grogu does find half a cookie he stashed in the crevice of his chair, and he quickly devours that) but the door is open, so Grogu quickly scurries out into the bright sunlight. He doesn't pay attention to the bright sunlight or strange plants around them. Frankly, waking up on weird planets is a very common part of his life now! Instead, he immediately zeroes in on where Mando is fussing with the Razor Crest.

Scurrying over, he all but throw himself at Mando's leg, tugging at the fabric of his pants. Yes, Hello Father. Please Feed. Starving.]

[Normally, Mando would just assume it was a Pokemon trying to get his attention. But there's something different about this tugging, something very familiar and deeply missed, and when he looks down, he's hoping against hope and pleading to whatever gods battle-worn Mandalorians pray to that he'll see what he thinks he might see.]

[It is one of those weekends after, and if the Razor Crest can appear here, why can't the kid?]

Kid?

[Please ignore how choked up his voice sounds. Also ignore how Mando immediately drops whatever he was working on to swoop down and grab--gently, always very gently--Grogu and pull him into an embrace.]

Kid, you're here!

[Grogu burbles in surprise when he is suddenly swept up in an embrace. Yes, he is here. Of course he is, where else would he be?

Normally, Grogu is all about embraces. Even if the Mandalorian's breast plate might be hard, his arms are warm and comforting. But this one comes a little out of nowhere, and the normally calm, even keel of Mando's emotions buzz against his force senses like a nest of riled space-bees.

Also, he is still very hungry.

Letting out a little whine, Grogu squirms in the embrace, his ears flicking with uncertainty. Yo, dad, what's up, man? Why are you acting all weird?]

[For all that he wants to hold onto Grogu and never let this place--or anyone else, Jedi or other Mandalorian or former Empire douchebag--separate them ever again, he relaxes his grip when the kid squirms and starts whining.]

Sorry.

[Geesh, good job, Mando, what're you doing, trying to crush the kid? Mando adjusts his grip so he can see the little guy better.]

Sorry, I... I haven't seen you in awhile. It's a long story.

[As he talks, he starts rooting in his pockets for something to eat. It may have been awhile, but he remembers that tugging on a pant leg like that usually means the kid wants a snack.]

[Grogu babbles a question, frowning as he points one tiny hand at the Razor Crest. He was right in there! And he doesn't think he napped for that long. He would've woken up a lot more hungry if he had been taking one of those long sleeps he sometimes takes after using the force.

His question is soon forgotten however when Mando starts rooting around in his pockets. At that, Grogu just turns his eyes on where his hand is, eagerly hoping that some food will appear.]

I told you, it's a long story. Don't worry about it.

[Does Mando entirely understand what Grogu is asking? No, but he's gotten pretty good at understanding the gist of what the little guy wants. Sometimes, it feels like his head is full of tiny, moving thought-fish when the kid talks; he thinks that's probably the Force, and the kid trying to communicate telepathically.]

[He's also gotten out of practice of having pockets filled with snacks. Riz and Boober are much better at managing their own snacking, so Mando doesn't need to carry food for them. What he does have is a pocket full of berries and treats for Pokemon.]

Uh...

[He pulls out a few Pokemon berries. Will these hurt the kid? Probably not, considering he eats frogs and whatever else he can get his hands on. After a moment's hesitation, Mando offers Grogu the berries.]

Here. These'll do for now.

[Grogu very happily takes the berries, dropping them into his mouth, and almost immediately spitting them out with a sound of distress. He might eat frogs and spiders and whatever else, but these berries taste like wax and sadness.

With a high whine, Grogu pats at his tongue, trying to get the strange sensation to go away. And he is still hungry!!]
