Well, we have multiple subterranean races, so yes, it's common enough.

...Well, that would follow. I am...guessing you mean something more established than burrows?

Ah no, drow have not lived in shallow caves since the high elves pushed us down into the Underdark. Which depending on historical sources was either two-thousand or ten thousand years ago. For much of my life I was told the second, but now it seems like the first might be true, which meant it was within my mother's living memory... if none others. Our race often does not live much longer than seven or eight centuries and drow elves in particular are likely to die by murder or misadventure during our first.

[She is processing the other information, and sighs, almost a little too strongly, putting a show of her shock.]

Your mother had a great influence in the very shape of your world, then.

Of my city of birth, at least. From what I know of it, it seems that she was full young when she came to Menzoberranzan. I know little as to if she had time to make any impact on things on the Surface.

I've never known the ambitious to not leave a path in their wake. But two thousand years on....that's a hard trail to follow.

Oh yes. And from what I can tell, much of the history of the high elves that once drove us underground is propaganda—as is, of course, our own.
