There's a loud yelp as the redhead jumps to his full height, clambering into one of the office partitions and biting his tongue with the sting of his leap. The rattle gets awfully loud all of the sudden and a black furry bolt dashes against his chest with a bitten leaf and a snicker caught in his throat. Esteban's pokéball is unceremoniously swiped from his hand, gone in a flash as the little pancham scurries away, Grumpy hot on his stubby little tail.

Alright, he sorta deserved that, didn't he?

Esteban rubs a bit at the shoulder that collided with the semi-wall, turning to see who had snuck up behind him. And wondered how the young man could sneak about anywhere. Curiosity nips at him as he takes in his companion, but Esteban grins with good humor, eyes bright with mischief and amusement. Somehow, he feels like he's five again, with his hand in the cookie jar.

"It's for Grumpy," he manages after a quick second, pointing out at the little cubone with his club held high, just as the little pancham led them across to a new and improved tactical location for better sneaking around. They certainly had a nice dynamic-- whatever was going on in the office per say right now. Mayhem. Esteban would call this mayhem, if only on a very minor scale. The thought gets him snickering again.

"Grumpy....?"

Kaiba squints at the little Cubone. He's always felt sympathy for them, yet this one seems to be having fun playing with the Pancham. They could be friends, like King and Mizuchi...

But this Pancham. It reminds him so much of Mokie. He wants to raise him....but explaining that to a stranger would make him sound like he's lost his marbles, wouldn't it? Well, the whole place has a habit of making anyone lose their heads. Especially with what's going on today. Might as well go for it.

"This building was my office, and all the people I worked with here have been replaced with Pokémon. Most of them are Combees...but this one's different. I was watching, to see if I could figure out why. He's. Playful, and a schemer. Like someone I knew well."

The Pancham's getting pretty far away with his prize, isn't he? So fast.

Okaaaaay? Not quite sure where the stranger is going with that, Esteban tilts his head to the side as he considers what he's been told, wondering why it should matter at all?

But blue eyes are fixed on the little 'mons having the time of their scampering little lives, the sharp gaze following them along. It's a strange thing to watch this stranger watch them, but it does help the redhead catch it when Kaiba's eyes lose quite the hard pinch between their brows, the edge of something too sharp. He turns to the pokémons as well before he can be caught staring. Maybe.

There's another combee, caught unaware with a set of something that kind of looks like headphones in its hands, swiped away by the devious little team. Pancham is grinning, lopping them around his little neck, and Grumpy gives him a rare little smile, eyes narrowed through the holes of his mask.

"Soooo?" He asks quizzically. There's... something in his words that Esteban doesn't quite get. "Y' like sneaky pokémons?" Weird to be telling him that, but alright, Esteban can run with this!

"I like friendly ones! Grumpy's just never been th' same since I brought him down from the Wela Volcano. I think he's homesick, but whenever I go there, he just doesn't wanna leave my side."

He's still not sure what's wrong with Grumpy. He wants better for him, he truly does, but it's been a long, long time since he's seen his pokemon as anything other than despondent or uninterested by the world around him. The spirited little thing tottering behind the mischievous pancham gives him hope that maybe, just maybe, he's found a way to bring his joy back.

"Y' should meet Puppy an' Punk though! They'd have fun meetin' someone new, jus' like me!" He cheers instead, suddenly thrusting his hand out to the stranger. Flawless introduction!

"I'm Esteban, by the way!" he chirps gleefully, grinning as wide as his mouth can bear.

"Seto Kaiba. Welcome, Esteban," he says with a slight incline of his head and a handshake for a greeting. What a weird hello. But he's sticking too it, watching the two Pokémon curiously. They seem to be having fun. But that Pancham...he wants to protect him.

"I wondered about that...what it means to take Pokémon from their families and train them. My main partner comes from hundreds of years in the past, so he'll never see his family again. But...he seems happy to be with me anyway."

He rolls a rustic-looking Poké Ball in his hand. "I think...Pokémon want trainers to bring out their potential. We owe that to them."

Ooookay-- that's actually a lot to unpack all of the sudden!

Esteban turns wide, summery-blue eyes to his companion, astonished that he'd just flicked through the mention like it was no big deal. Which-- alright, he's heard of Celebi, thank you, and time-warp shenanigans, and-- he's pretty sure there's another 'mon with time powers. Palkia? Dialga? One of them? He doesn't remember.

But, hello?

"You time-warped?" Excuse him while he tries to wrap his head around this. "You time-warped up t' here? Or, did you go in the past an' then come back here?" He had said that this was his office, right? And it doesn't seem like it's that old a building.

His brain is overheating just thinking about it. Just the sheer idea that the man across from him might have gone through such length and is merely inspecting the effects on his pokémons, rather than how that might have affected him. What is he, used to it?

It takes Esteban a few seconds to recover, where he wonders if the man across from him is pulling a prank, which... he really doesn't seem the type, to be honest? And the other option is... that Seto really doesn't think it unnatural to go to the past, hop onto a little adventure and then come back? Esteban can't help the awe that lifts his voice.

"That's amazin'!" he cheers, grinning wide from ear to ear. "What didja do there? How w's the past? What's the biggest diff'rence you saw? How did you go there? How'd you come back?" he bolts, question quick question that interrupt their current discussion on a complete other tangent, eager to learn everything he can from someone who might have actually really been there! That actually does sound awesome!
