[He knows the guy is timid but doesn't know just how bad it is. Marik grimaces a bit when he hears the splash. Whoops.

When Boober waves, the blonde approaches the pond and holds a hand out incase he needs help stepping back out. ... This is the second time he's scared him, now that he knows who it is.

How is this him though? Marik tilts his head slightly and leans over, still holding out a hand.]

Boober. You...

[There is no better way to word this question:]

... What are you?

[As he takes Marik's offered hand and climbs out of the pond, Boober gives a snort - one of amusement, more than anything else.]

I'm a Fraggle. This is what I used to be all the time, how I'm supposed to be. [He gestures around at the cave.] And this is my home.

Really? Wh...

[He's about to ask why but... he has a suspicion as to why Boober normally appears human. If this little guy was walking around, people would be sure to mistaken him for a pokémon. Must be something the Gods do when they pull certain individuals.

Marik's trying really hard not to stare but he's really fascinated with the creature before him. Thankfully Boober bringing up the cave distracts him for the time being and he looks around.]

This cave? I've never been to someplace like this before. I mean, I've been underground more than I'd like but... this place is beautiful. What are those tiny, translucent structures I saw along the way? And, ah... What's a Fraggle exactly?

Yeah, this whole system is where Fraggles live. My cave is farther off from the pond, but...

[He glances around and gives a little hum.]

Yeah, it is, huh? ...What kind of underground places have you been to?

[Because the idea of "too much" underground is frankly hard for Boober to grasp.]

But, oh, you must mean the Doozer towers. Those are buildings some of the other creatures who live here make. They're tasty. [But... He pauses as he wonders how to answer what a Fraggle is.] A Fraggle is- is this. [He taps his chest with both hands.] Me. Although I guess I'm not the most typical example...

[How to word it as vaguely as possible...]

An underground temple, of sorts. I spent most of my life living there.

[When you're barred from going outside despite desperately wanting to, it makes you hate the place you're being cooped up in.

Marik... blinks. Tasty? Buildings? Weird. Maybe they make it from something that Fraggles eat...?

And Boober's answer, while correct, isn't what he was looking for. He sighs, thinking of how to word it so he gives a better answer.]

I gathered that. I meant... what exactly? You're capable of human level speech and thought so you're something more than an animal.

Oh, I see.

[The idea of spending most of one's life living underground is perfectly normal to Boober, and while he only has a vague notion of what a temple is, none of that sounds objectionable to him.

The same can't be said for Marik's statement about not being animal. Not that Boober would think of himself as a literal animal, it's just... Well, why is human the baseline here? He scoffs.]

I don't know how else to put it. Fraggles are Fraggles. I'd gone my whole life without seeing a human up close until I was brought away from Fraggle Rock. I didn't even know that word, human. So we're not animals, but we're not like all that much like you guys either.

[He doesn't mean to offend but when humans are the most intelligent species in his universe, that's what the baseline will be. Marik rubs his chin in thought.]

Huh... Interesting... That's... cool though. We don't have anything like Fraggles back in my world. Or at least, none that I've ever heard of. You must be experts at hiding then.

[Another thing he has in common. The tomb keepers are a secret clan that have lived for millennia in secret. He looks around again before returning his attention to Boober.]

Would you... like to give me a tour? I'd love to see more of this place. If I can fit, I mean.

[He finds being a human in the Pokemon world so stressful that the comparison hit something of a nerve, but when Marik doesn't continue on that track, Boober starts to calm down.]

Well, it's a lot easier to hide when you're this small, that's one of the things I normally miss the most...

[The request for a tour drives away any remaining prickliness, and Boober even smiles a little.]

There might be some spots we have to skip, but okay, I'll show you around.

[Marik can't help but grin a bit as an idea pops into his head.]

Well, if you ever need advice on hiding while human-sized, I can give you some pointers.

[His entire life has been in hiding even after he left the tomb so uh. Boy's pretty good at the vanishing act when he wants to be.]

Thanks, Boober. I'll do my best to be careful. The last thing I want to do is ruin anything here. Do you prefer to lead the way or ride on my shoulder?

Oh yeah? If you have any advice, I'd certainly like to hear it.

[He smiles up at Marik with a shrug.]

I think getting up on your shoulder could be nice, if you don't mind. I think you'll outpace me without meaning to, otherwise.

Not at all.

[He crouches down in front of Boober and leans forward so he can climb on. Figures that's more dignified than him picking the little guy up like a doll and setting him there like he does with Chen.

Once the Fraggle has made himself comfortable, Marik slowly stands back up and turns to exit the Great Hall.]

So first, you'll want to dress inconspicuously. Your hat is perfect for that because it keeps people from getting a good look at your face. Combine that with mundane clothing and you can vanish into a crowd and out of sight like it's nothing.

Next would be the way you act.

[A pause.]

... How do you handle under pressure?

[Marik figures he already knows the answer but he'd rather hear it from Boober than put his foot in his mouth again.]

[Boober does appreciate not being picked up, and settles in to offer direction.]

Yeah, I don't like dressing flashily because of all the attention that comes with it. I much rather blend in, so I guess I have that part down. Being under pressure, though...?

[He gives a dismissive snort.]

I don't handle it, really. I just panic.

[thetombkeeper]

[Just as he suspected. Marik hums in thought.]

You'll need to find a way to work through that panic.
