Fungus!

[Yep. It's a Morelull, and he is just over the moon about it.]

I had thought that Foongus and Amoongus were the only mushroom-imitating Pokemon (not counting, of course, the parasitic variety that preys on the Paras line). I have read through the Pokedex quite a few times since my arrival and there was never mention of this species, but lo and behold, an entry has appeared for Morelull sometime within the last few days. Is this a common occurrence? Is there always potential for completely new Pokemon to simply materialize out of the ether? Fantastic.

And sensible. There are over fourteen thousand species of mushroom native to my own dimension, to say nothing of molds and yeasts. That only a select few Pokemon have ever adapted a similar biology is surprising when fungus is one of the more successful organisms as a general rule; my assumption now is that there are many, many more and we simply haven't stumbled upon them yet. Not only that but Morelull is Grass and Fairy type! I wonder if they naturall congregate in rings in their resting day state--

[Oh my god. This is so cool. This is so cool you guys. Does this mean he's going to be spending the rest of his time in Johto aggressively checking rotten logs for new Pokemon species? Probably.]

[Friends, countrymen, fellow Pokemon World abductees, do you happen to know what day it is today? It's the very first day of December. Certainly, it means many things to many people, but for Jane it is the start of two very distinct seasons: Christmas Season, and Friends' Birthdays Season.

It's why she's in the middle of baking when the feed turns on, talking Dinah the Audino patiently through mixing batter while August the Delphox is off to the side, happily watching cakes bake in the oven. All three of them have flour-spattered aprons on. How the heck did Jane find aprons for Pokemon? Why did she put aprons on them? Who cares, it's adorable.]

- Now, you want to do it slowly, or else it all sloshes out, see? And you should scrape the bowl to make sure you get all the dry bits. If it's not incorporated, it won't turn into cake while it bakes. Do you understand?

Aud! [Dinah nods, and when Jane gives her back the bowl, she mixes diligently. Her trainer beams with pride.]

Perfect! Everyone's going to love these...and with both of you helping, I should be able to get the cakes done by tonight!

[She leans over to kiss Dinah's head, then August's, and it's...kind of clear that she has no idea she's being filmed. The perpetrator comes into view soon enough - an adorned Mimikyu who comes around, oblivious to what she's done, munching on an oatmeal cookie. Seems like she jostled the 'gear to get to the treats. Its scuttling catches Jane's attention, and she regards it fondly before noticing that the recording light is on.]

Augh! Shoot -

[Jane hurries over and scoops up the 'gear, holding it close to obscure the baking going on behind her.] Um, you guys didn't see anything, okay? Especially if we happen to be sharing the same house! There's not a gosh darned thing going on in the kitchen, so don't go in there, okay??

[Looks like Operation: Surprise Birthday Cakes is a bust.]
