Hello again, Johto, Kanto, and Sevii, this is Mark from EV News bringing you all an update on the accident that occurred a few days ago!
Through the efforts of our Coast Guard Officer Jennies, with much appreciated help from the Aether Foundation, the site of the crash has been cleaned up enough that is no longer unsafe to venture near! And while the investigation is still ongoing, it doesn’t seem like there are any further answers to be had from the crash site itself, so no worries about disturbing the scene. In fact, a call has gone out for volunteers to come and help restore the area to its natural state.
And who knows, maybe some fresh eyes will spot an overlooked clue worth reporting!
Now to Joanne, back on the scene with more to tell us.
[This time, it’s clear that Joanne is actually at the crash site--or at least on the deck of a small boat just outside of it. It’s definitely in a tricky spot to reach, with the many barrier rocks sticking up unevenly around it and what rough sand there is forming a ‘ground’ that’s anywhere from ankle to neck deep underwater. The crash seems to have done an unexpectedly large amount of damage to the barrier itself: most of the rocks around it are smashed at the edges or have chunks taken out of them, and there’s a lot of scorching. Did...did the plane explode??]
[No, because as the camera pans to the side to show, the main body of the very wrecked plane has been removed to a large floating platform along with a pile of smaller metal scraps and smashed crates...and a lot of broken Pokeballs?]
[Strangely enough, even though the plane is made of metal, it doesn’t seem to be reflecting any light at all. Several Jennies are on the platform with it, sorting through the wreckage and taking notes. After giving viewers a good look at this, the camera gets back to Joanne and the three people standing beside her: a Coast Guard Officer Jenny, an Aether Foundation member, and a grizzled old Fisherman.]
As you can all see, cleanup efforts are well underway, but there is still a great deal left to do! Here we have a few people who’ll be able to tell us more. Officer Jenny, has the investigation turned anything up? What about the missing pilot?
We’ve been working around the clock to search for the pilot, and to retrieve as much of the wreck as possible from the sea floor! As you know, Diving conditions in Kanto aren’t ideal, but our expert teams have managed to bring up as much as we safely can. For better or worse, there is still no sign that the pilot was in the plane when it crashed, and there’s been no signs of them out at sea either. We won’t stop searching until we know for sure!
And...I’m seeing a lot of broken Pokeballs with the other salvage, what about those?
Those seem to have been the plane’s cargo, all in crates...and all open, broken, and unoccupied. If there were Pokemon in them, they’re just as much of a mystery as the pilot! But we do know that if there were that many Pokemon lost out in the water, we would have found them by now, so don’t worry! We can say that the crash seems to have been caused by an outside force instead of mechanical failure, but just what that is, we don’t know. Team Rocket is, as always, a prime suspect. We’ll let the public know more when we do!
[She nods firmly, and Joanne gives her a salute.]
Thank you for all your effort, and for keeping us up to date! Now, we also have Aether Agent Collette here to represent the Foundation. She was not one of the ones on the ships who witnessed the incident, but arrived later from the Foundation's main building to help with the efforts. Agent Collette, does Aether have any comment? I know we’re all grateful that they happened to be here to help when they were!
[She holds the microphone out to the agent, who nods and speaks, brow creased with concern.]
Yes, of course we were happy to help. Fortunately, we at Aether have both the specialized equipment and experience to deal with these kinds of accidents, as our work back on Alola brings us into contact with them more often. Our first concern, as always, is making sure the impact on the wild Pokemon population is neutralized as much as possible.
There weren’t any injured that we’ve found...for the most part, they all seem to have fled when the crash happened and have only just now begun to venture back into the area. They’ve all been extremely nervous, so we would not recommend that trainers try to engage the poor things in battle or capture them from this Route for now.
[Joann nods and takes the microphone back.]
Of course, it must have been traumatic for them. Thank you, Agent Collette!
And, finally, here we have Fisherman Dave, who claims to have been out doing some nighttime angling a few miles away from the crash and says he saw something odd. What was it you saw, Dave?
[Fisherman Dave nods emphatically, although both Officer Jenny and Agent Collette look...skeptical, as though they’ve already heard what he’s about to say. Probably more than once.]
That’s right! I was out at the best night fishing spot on the Route, landing big one after big one, and right when I was about to head home, that’s when I saw it! A bright light in the sky, like nothin’ I’ve ever seen! And then there was all kinds’a noise and fire and flashin’ lights, I bet from the crash, but it was too far off to make out clear. And by the time I got there, these Aether fellas had set up and told me they had it handled and it wasn’t safe to get too close, so I went on home. But it’s no big mystery to me--it was aliens that did this, I’m sure of it!
[He looks very proud of having gotten to say his piece, and even though Joanne’s smile is a little strained, she’s just as chipper as ever as she nods and takes the microphone back.]
Whatever happened, I’m sure it will be uncovered in due time. Thank you Fisherman Dave, and to all of you for your time! Back to you, Mark.
[Back in the studio, Mark nods, looking only slightly less spooked than last time.]
Well, we can all hope that aliens had nothing to do with it! Never thought I’d hope for Team Rocket to be the answer to something. But we’ll have to find out as the investigation continues. As I said before, supervised volunteer efforts are being welcomed now that the wreck has been cleared--the site is about half a day’s Surfing from Pallet Town, and the inn there has stated they are happy to lodge volunteers for half the price!
Good luck to everyone working so hard to help, and to those who intend to join them! For now, this Mark with EV News, signing off.
( Details for volunteers! )
