[It’s a perfectly normal Sunday morning, and EV News’ midmorning segment is appropriately light; a tiny, late middle aged woman is demonstrating half a dozen or so fun ways to bring pumpkin into your cooking this Autumn with the help of a mild-mannered Kadabra.]

[Then, just as the Kadabra sneaks a floating spoonful of praline while the host’s back is turned, the breaking news overlay cuts them off. The camera returns to the newsroom, catching a disheveled anchor just settling into her chair.]

Good morning, this is EV News with an urgent broadcast on a developing story.

In what seems to be turning into a pattern of technology-related mishaps, Silph Co’s scheduled demonstration of their ARC-eus system, part of their broader, recently announced Project Pidove, seems to be rapidly melting down into a multi-dimensional mess.

What has now been identified to be an eleventh hour code error has caused the wormhole generating prototype to misfire, opening dimensional portholes not just in the intended location and trajectory of the demonstration, but scattered across the greater Johto and Kanto regions.

[The news video cuts to unsteady, vertical footage of bizarre, mechanized forms of familiar Pokémon stomping, running, and rolling through public areas as far west as Cianwood and as far east as Lavender.]

EV News has been able to confirm sightings of these strange Pokémon in all major metropolitan areas. As this situation continues to develop, law enforcement and Silph Co representatives have strongly advised that citizens stay indoors.

Wormholes could appear in any place at any time. In a statement made by Silph Co at 9:45 this morning, the tech giant confirms that there is no immediate danger of people or Pokémon becoming trapped in another dimension. Each wormhole is, in layman's terms, a one-way door from an indeterminate future. In the unlikely event that you are caught in one, experts advise that you remain calm and await the situation’s resolution. Once the machine is deactivated, you will return to this place and time.

[The anchor is barely containing her exasperation as she reaches the end of the bulletin. There really is no good way to suggest that anyone might be randomly sucked into a different reality, while reassuring the public that all will be just fine in the same sentence.]

To this end, Silph Co is reaching out to any skilled Pokémon trainers to assist in the capture and containment of these strange new Pokémon, which seem to be protecting the ARC-eus machine…

[An infographic appears on the screen, detailing the estimated level and typing of the mystery Pokémon in question.]

[When the anchor reappears on the screen, she’s clearly struggling to maintain the air of chipper professionalism.]

And, of course, EV News has reached out to Silph Co for comment on any and all safety precautions taken regarding Project Pidove and ARC-eus, as well as the advisory position of Cara Liss, a household name in the wake of an incident that sent numerous citizens and visitors into the distant past last year. Silph Co’s representative responds…

[She is visibly reading from a letterheaded paper inhand, brow raised, eyes bored, and tone spectacularly unimpressed,]

Silph Co and all its associates remains dedicated to best practices of safety, both in the lab and in the field.

[With a click of her tongue, a mutter something along the lines of sounds about right and a flick of her wrist, the press release lands on the newsdesk with the graceful skitter and swoosh of copy paper onto a tabletop. The camera cuts abruptly back to Kathy and Kadabra.]
