AN EXCITING END TO THE DAY
Who: Everyone participating in the extra Prom event!
Where: The beach on the south part of the island, and nearby surroundings
When: Sunday, April 15th (night)
Summary: A special kite-flying sendoff goes awry.
Rating: PG-13, most likely
Log:
As night falls on the final day of an excellent beach prom adventure, the staff of Resort Gorgeous usher their guests out onto the beach for one last grand sight to top off the experience. Big, fluffy resort towels have been laid out for people and Pokemon alike to sit on, and locals are off to the sides, handling large and beautiful kites with incredible care. They come in all shapes and sizes, and each depicts a Pokemon you may have seen wandering the shores or swimming in the oceans during your time here. They're incredible works of art all on their own, and as the wind picks up, watching them lift off into the sky becomes an artistic experience in and of itself.
A hush falls over the gathered audience as the kites sail up, up, up into the sky. Small children begin to release lanterns that float up to join them, and the kites dance around them in practiced loops and twirls. In turn, they are illuminated from all angles, a play of shadow and color in the dark, starry night.
But as the show goes on, it starts to become apparent that starlight and lanterns... are not the only things lighting up the night sky.
A growing point of electric blue light that might have been overlooked at first among the rest of the stars becomes brighter and brighter, and bigger and bigger, quickly becoming what is clearly a long and jagged tunnel opening up in the middle of the sky over the island, accompanied by a sound like a clap of thunder.
There's barely enough time to react to the opening of space before, like bees from a hive, ghostly white creatures emerge, at least two dozen of them, drifting serenely down in the direction of the beach-- and, unfortunately, right towards the show, even as the locals gasp in shock and try to pull their kites in.
"What in the world is that?" one person cries out.
"Where did they come from?" shouts another.
But the biggest, most obvious reactions come from the wild Pokemon in the area.
Frightened Wingull take off in enormous clouds from their cliffside nests and scatter to the winds, the sea grows choppy with fish Pokemon of all kinds poking out from the waves to examine the bright light only to splash hurriedly back down, and even the Pyukumuku try to roll themselves back into the ocean, expelling their innards to help pull them across the sand. The landbound wild Pokemon don’t have the ocean or the sky to retreat to, and begin to swarm and stampede in their efforts to either find somewhere to get away from the strange, unnerving creatures...or stand their ground and attempt to fight them. The reaction from the wild Pokemon is so strong, in fact, that the strange creatures seem to panic themselves, jittering this way and that, only for some to get tangled in the strings of the retreating kites. Once ensnared, they start to emit an unsettling cry as they struggle to get free, lashing out with their tentacles at anything that comes near as they come tumbling slowly through the air towards the ground.
It’s chaos on the beach. Some locals try to yank their kites free, or send out their own Pokemon to try and defend themselves. Others run, scooping up children and Pokemon and yelling for others to do the same. Wild Pokemon are flapping and scampering everywhere, so panicky that they’re having a hard time telling friend from foe. The strange creatures are floating all around, lost and fighting with trained and wild Pokemon alike. But the question is...what will you do?

She turns back to Ford, placing a hand on his arm. It makes her feel better, to have that contact. To non-verbally show that she's a little nervous. She won't say it out loud, nor will she let it control her. She's putting on her bravest of faces for what feels like a serious fight.]
Do you know these creatures? [Considering all the universe hopping he's done, she's curious to know if he's had experience with these things.] Or did you just make them angry somehow? [Also something she wouldn't be surprised by.
Hnoss nyooms into the air, getting antsy with how close they're getting, ready to attack at a moments notice.]
On second thought, lets talk later; they're getting uncomfortably close. Who do you plan on using?
no subject
[He is kind of wondering if this is partially his fault. There was that one he saw all those months ago, but all he did was take a few blurry pictures of it. Unless that got it mad? It hadn't seemed upset at the time.
He considers her second question. Cyclops is out. Scylla is a little too rough. Franceska and Betyl are too low-level; he'd be worried about them getting seriously hurt. They've been more reactive than aggressive... maybe what he needs isn't raw power so much as thoughtful strategy.]
I think I've got it.
[He takes Jellybean's ball from the strap across his chest and the Reuniclus bursts forth in a flash of light. If Elsa's seen a Reuniclus before then she'll note that this one has double the amount of ears and a somewhat strange face. Instead of the single line down the middle it has two and its eyes are spaced even further apart than normal; in the center is an odd little divot, like an eye socket that never finished forming. He's a special boy.]
We need to wear them down. They're too strong to attack head on; it will work better to tire them out so they drop on their own.
[So: two bulky boys who can take a beating and keep going. That's what they've got to work with.]

Then it sounds like Hnoss is going to be my best bet as well.
[She looks between Hnoss and Jellybean, feeling pretty confident in them, though there's fear bubbling up under the surface. Somewhere in all this chaos is Anna- she knows Anna can take care of herself, but of course her Big Sister Instincts™ are kicking in, not to mention-]
Ford? [Without really thinking about it, her hand is reaching out to grasp his. She opens her mouth to say something, but when she looks up at him, the words die off. She can't bring herself to voice any "what-ifs" right now, to consider any scenario where they don't make it out of this. Anyway, he knows. She doesn't need to say it. She squeezes his hand instead.] Let's kick some ass.
no subject
Boy is it still weird to have anyone touching his hands. Y'know, voluntarily.
It's the swearing that really gets his attention, though, before he can get too wrapped up in hand trauma. Probably for the best.]
Let's. I'm very ready to on your side for a battle instead of getting my teeth kicked in.
[See, it's funny, because she's actually pretty good at battling and has soundly thrashed him before now. He doesn't fancy the odds on those squid.]
Jellybean! Set up a Reflect.
[Jellybean does as he's told. The Nihilego stop, apparently a little ???? about the glowing barrier now shimmering faintly around Jellybean and his big green teammate. Just try and hit them with a physical move now, shitlords.]
no subject
It's not, but it's very intense.
His words do cause her to chuckle though, and her demeanor shifts back to a few moments prior as she puts on her battle face again.]
A change of pace is always refreshing, hm? Hnoss, use Thunderwave!
[Hnoss sets off, and somewhere from above a small lightning bolt strikes down on one of the Nihilego, vastly hindering its ability to move.]
Now focus on using Dragon Rage to whittle it down!
[Insert colorful description of Dragon Rage here]
no subject
Of course, with the presumed level discrepancy Dragon Rage is probably the smartest bet. Guaranteed damage is never something to sneeze at. Ford can appreciate the straightforward approach.]
Light Screen. [Jellybean wobbles an ear to show he's heard the command and sets up another barrier over the first. Cyclops is nearly twenty levels above Jellybean and Ford saw it gets its ghosty ass handed to it, so he's taking no chances here. Now they're shielded against almost every attack those squid could possibly throw at them.]
Now see what you can do with a Shadow Ball.
[The glowing mass of purple and black energy beings to form not between Jellybean's hands but at the little divot in his forehead where an eye isn't. Much of his stronger attacks localize there, Ford has noticed. Just one more of his quirks.]
Does Hnoss know anything that might push them back? Once they're weak and can only put up minimal resistance we may be able to herd them back into that portal.
no subject
This strategy hasn't failed her yet, so she thinks it'll help out even more here- though she is a little tense when a tentacle comes at Hnoss, though he manages to grab onto it and use the momentum to his advantage and toss the Nihilego a ways away.
Good boy.]
Hnoss, that was really great!
[When Ford speaks, she immediately knows what strategy to use next.]
I know exactly what to do! Hnoss, start using Twister to help drive them back!
[There goes the boy, off to play Twister.
He nyooms and darts around, strategically creating twisters to A, keep them from trying to get near his trainers and B, to move them back.]
