From Cards to the Real Deal [Action/Video]

[Haga isn't particularly thrilled when he wakes up in an unknown bed, in an unknown world and is greeted by a stranger claiming to be his mom. In fact, he livid, confused and he has a few choice words to throw at this woman who dared to pass as his mom, talking to him about Pokémon and training and journeys.

But before he could start using words not very fit for a teenage boy, he's out the door. And no matter how hard he slams at it, the woman on the other side won't answer.

OK, fine. He's not about to scream expletives out of this woman's house for all to hear.

He turns on his heels and is faced with a small town that is, for the lack of a better world, very underwhelming. For someone who came from a place with skyscrapers and high tech, being dumped in a small rural town like New Bark is a bit of a tonal shift.

Not that Haga hates the outdoors. After all, that's where the bugs are. But this place is as simple as it gets. He would be surprised if they even have running water and electricity.

With a very defeated sigh he plops down on the ground and places the backpack that was given to him in front of him. Maybe it can provide some answers.

The first thing he pulls out is the guidebook, which is great help. He quickly locates the Pokegear and decides that it can't hurt to try and get in touch with someone, anyone.]

OK, so as much as I would love to sit here and read this for the next hour or so. [He puts the guidebook into view.] Can someone just give me a crash course on what in the world I'm supposed to be doing? No way I was gonna believe some random lady pretending to be my mother. [If she was lying about who she was how could he trust anything out of her mouth?]

Am I just supposed to travel around and fend for myself? Because, hm, no thank you?

[Once again, it would seem like Doppio is staying at some kind of traditional-looking inn. There is some faint yipping and barking in the background before he starts talking.]

So... I've been curious about something. This is Scarabella...

[He holds up to the camera a pink-purpleish Heracross. It looks smaller than average, and veterans may notice there is something else that's unusual about its appearance.]

... She hatched just last week. I've seen some Heracross here and there, and when I did some looking into it, I kind of noticed there's something-- Ah, I don't mean the color! I know about Shiny Pokémon. But...

[If Doppio intended to use the PokéGear for something else, too bad, because Scarabella is now sucking on the bottom of the screen. Oh well. Also, is the barking getting louder?]

Uh, I guess you'll have to check your Pokédex if you don't know what I'm talking about, but it looks like male Heracross usually have a sort of branched horn, like a rhinoceros beetle, and female Heracross usually have what looks like a heart on the tip of their horn... But Scarabella's heart is upside-down. [Almost like...] Does that kind of thing happen a lot? I mean... differences that don't really show up on the Pokédex?

[Really, he just wants to know the odds that he'll be forced to hand in an ultra-rare specimen to Team Rocket. Scarabella is cute... It'd be a shame. Hey, that's some REALLY loud yipping--

A horde of Yamper rushes in through the window.

Oh yeah if you want one of these little guys you should come to Mahogany Town, there's a ton and they're everywhere, try catching a few, okay bye!

[This video opens with eggs and very recently hatched Pokemon. Is... is that flash of gold a shiny Swablu? Or perhaps a Magikarp? There are also papers pinned on the walls and an easel with what look like family trees on them. Or perhaps Pokemon pedigrees?

When Kiri turns the Pokegear's camera back on herself she's very, very proud! Unlike her usual mimicking, the voice that comes out is one hardly anyone will recognize. It clearly takes her effort to form the words, but this time they are all hers. Her voice, her words!]

Hello! I am Kiri! Best bird breeder!

[She raises her hands and spins around in a circle. She's in a cute and warm green dress and sensible boots. Today's costume wings are all Murkrow feathers.]

I have many eggs! Many hatchlings. Shiny ones! Hidden abilities! For sale or trade!

But...

[Here she focuses on the pedigrees. She's decorated them with stickers of each kind of Pokemon represented! But so many of them lead back to Pokemon that she's written "Clawdia" by. And most of the rest lead back to the Shiny Sirfetch'd sticker with her own name beside it.]

So much family! Breeders, let's help make each other more best eggs! Trade not family eggs and hatchlings with each other for more abilities and colors!

[She makes a motion like she's going to turn off the 'gear and stops.]
