The dog days aren't quite over yet...

Who: Everyone participating in the Dog Days of Summer event!
Where: Mt Mortar, the Bell Tower, OR the Seafoam Islands
When: August 17th-31st
Summary: With the Legendary Beasts running amok, it's up to everyone to help figure out what's wrong and get everything back to normal!
Log:

Bell Tower

Volunteers helping at the Bell Tower will arrive in Ecruteak City and be welcomed into the Bell Tower-- the normally-reclusive monks are still fairly stiff, but in the interest of not driving off the very help they asked for, they will be much more accommodating than usual.

Little studies have been set up all over the archive rooms in the upper floors, allowing volunteers to group up at tables and pore over old tomes and scrolls for any information that might be related to Ho-Oh or the three Beasts-- of course, there’s also a wealth of information about legendary Pokemon from other regions… just don’t let the monks catch you getting off-topic!

Gym Leader Morty will also be present helping with the research, and is using his Indigo League funds to finance inn lodgings in town for all volunteers. As for refreshments, local restaurants have also stepped up, eager to provide free food for all volunteer researchers! Gogoat-drawn carts full of fresh, traditional cuisine will come trundling up to the Tower several times a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)-- often accompanied by the restaurant-owners themselves. The guy who runs ECRUTEAK HOUSE OF DUMPLINGS will be there a lot-- he and his Emboar are particularly bombastic about stuffing everybody full of delicious fried dumplings at every opportunity. Gotta stay well-fed if you want to study!

That said, anyone wishing to pull an all-nighter will either have to bring their own snacks or rely on the monks’ supplies-- which means plain rice, hot tea, and not much else.

----

Mt Mortar

The base of Mt. Mortar is a flurry of activity no matter what the hour-- the center of operations is a large camping area at the foot of the mountain, where a small army of tents have been set up. Rangers and volunteers alike are rushing around, and anyone just arriving will be asked to sign in and mark whatever tasks they’ll be helping with.

Strong trainers can sign up for field work, which can involve anything from patrolling the mountain to evacuate campers to helping corral the panicking wild Pokemon population (bright side: there’s even more rare ones running around than normal, and capturing them is a quick and easy way to get them out of harm’s way!). Trainers with flying types may even wind up helping to carry water over from the Lake of Rage in case of what the Rangers all fear: forest fire.

More inexperienced trainers will lower-leveled Pokemon will be encouraged to stick around base where it’s a little safer-- but don’t worry, there’s still plenty of work to be done! Several meal tents are set up around the base, where you can serve (or be served) quick meals from hot pans, soup kitchen style. Nothing fancy or extravagant, but nothing that won’t taste great after a long hectic day of running around the mountain. And hey, it’s free.

A first-aid tent is also set up where trainers and their Pokemon can have injuries patched up-- the Nurse Joys staffing it can always use assistance to keep up with everything.

Sleeping quarters are provided via cot-filled tents set up around the base-- those ones are first-come, first-serve, so grab one fast! Helping the Rangers out is an all-day-all-night affair, so everyone just sleeps and eats when they get the chance to. Reminders to do both on a regular basis are posted all around-- nobody wants sleep-deprived trainers doing dangerous work, even if, between the constant roars of Raikou and Entei and the constant activity within the camp, sleeping could get pretty difficult.

Fortunately, one of the first things you’ll be handed upon arriving is a pair of heavy-duty earplugs.

----

Seafoam Islands

On the shores of the Seafoam Islands, everything is… well, chaos.

The beaches are COVERED in tents of all shapes, sizes, and… raggedness. It seems many folks have shown up in lieu of Greg’s frantic video post, and they’ve more or less taken over. You can barely see the sand! Things are quite a bit less organized than they are over at Mt. Mortar, which unfortunately means that for food and first-aid, you might need to wind up heading over to the teeny tiny little dock town with the inn (booked solid, sorry!) and the shop (Blaine’s beach is less occupied, but he can be seen from time to time passive-aggressively picking up peoples’ trash around the outskirts of the tent army and scowling).

Because out on the beach, there’s no first-aid to speak of and if you go to the ‘food tent’, you’ll just be handed something like this.

Fortunately, unlike their hilariously futile efforts to find Celebi and aside from their clear lack of event-managing knowledge, it seems the Seekers actually are onto something. Every six hours or so, Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres CAN be seen soaring high overhead and disappearing around the back of the mountain, often with stolen food or shiny things glinting in their talons.

The Seekers themselves are more concerned with getting all their equipment functioning than they are about accommodating all the tourists who just showed up to sit on the beach and stare at the horizon in hopes of seeing one of the Birds-- but if you can actually find them in the chaos, they’ll eagerly put you to work.

In this case, 'work' means 'heading straight into the caves to try and #FindLugia'. Well? WILL YOU?

"Aw you remember me! I'm honored, Miss Claudia~" Reno said happily before he chomped on Parry's ear and gave it a tug. "Thish ish 'arry!"

Parry let out an irritated growl and managed to shove Reno off, huffing at him.

"I don't need you talking for me!" The Vulpix just laughed and promptly bound over to Claudia, bouncing in a circle around her.

"You guys researching too? Tseng's here! I bet he'd love to see you!" he crooned, stopping in front of Claudia and dropping into a play bow. The Snubbul huffed again and rolled her eyes, shuffling off to find other resources for Cissnei since this was a bust.

She didn't return Reno's playful gestures, although her shoulders relaxed once Parry left. Good. Her trainer could work in peace again. Behind her, Walter did turn back to his work, evidently satisfied that the Snubbull had gone.

"Oh, Tseng is here too? Is he not busy?" She asked. It's not too surprising he would be here if Cissnei was. She seemed to keep him as a valued tea member - given his sensibility it made sense, although she had yet to see his strength in combat. She glanced back at Walter, considering. He was in good hands with Assumption and Gloom. She knew the ghost had been about to appear out the shadows when she had taken on Parry first, more familiar with walter's feelings about dogs.

"He's pretendin' he can read all the stuff Cissnei found," Reno mused with an amused huff, hopping up so he can dart around the other Vulpix and start to nudge her forward. "He'll be happy to see you! He'll forget all about those borin' books!" Which was true. So true it hurt.

Reno gives her another nudge but he's making a point to not be too rough, ready to back off if Claudia seems too displeased with what he's attempting.

Claudia shot Reno a look but took a few steps forward. She called to the Pokemon behind her. "Assumption, Gloom, I will be going to see Tseng and to collect more scrolls. I do not intend to be too long. Take care." Assumption nodded and waved.
"Don't worry! We've got lots to read, and we'll look after him!"

She walked with Reno, tails softly swaying as she followed him to his table. "Thank you, for taking me to him."

Reno grinned and yipped merrily, bounding ahead to lead the way since Claudia had decided to follow.

"No problem~ He's been all down and lame lately so anythin' to cheer him up," the fire Vulpix mused as he pranced along, tails bouncing. Cissnei's chosen table wasn't actually that far from Walter's but said trainer wasn't anywhere in sight. Instead it was just Tseng and Fiend, the Banette, at the table, the two Pokemon seated there as they looked through some books and scrolls.

Fiend noticed them first and tilted her head, peering at Claudia curiously before she looked to Tseng and waved at him. The Riolu blinked then turned, perking up as he closed the book he'd been looking at.

"Claudia!"

"Hello Tseng. Hello Fiend. Gloom is currently with our trainer, if you wish to speak with her." She recalled Fiend making a few companions at the party, including Gloom. It felt polite to inform her that she was here.

She smiled at Tseng softly, sitting by his chair. "How have you been, Tseng?"

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-08-29 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Fiend grinned and motioned at Tseng who nodded, the Banette drifting off to go find Gloom and say hello.

"I've been well. I hope you have been as well?" Tseng said, his attention completely on Claudia now as he gave her a shy smile. It hadn't been that long since they last saw one another but every chance he got to visit with her was special to him.

It took everything Reno had not to make a comment, the fire Vulpix snicker-snorting before he bound off to go find something else to do.

At least for the moment.

"I have been. This weather has been taxing...I look forward to it being dealt with. Then my training can resume properly." She shook herself out. She could handle heat by cooling herself down, and she's built to handle colder weather. But the humidity was something she couldn't 'fix' or handle. It was very uncomfortable.

She sat his chair, looking up at him. "I was told...that you had been feeling upset, lately."

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-08-29 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think anyone is really pleased with the weather. It's been miserable," Tseng agreed with a little huff, turning on the chair so he could look down at Claudia better. Her next comment makes him pause, though, looking at her in confusion before he glances around.

"...What exactly did Reno say?" Someone sounds a bit frustrated. And somewhere in the aisles close by, said fire Vulpix can be heard snickering.

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-08-29 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Reno said you had seemed down lately." She didn't bother to mention 'lame'. That seemed purely opinion based and not factual. "He thought it would improve your mood, to see a friend."

Or at least...that's what Claudia thought Reno was implying, when he suggested that her visit might cheer Tseng up.

Tseng let's out a squeak, ducking his head some as he fiddles with a scroll he was holding. Well, yes he had been a bit down...damn Reno for getting involved.

"It...he's not..entirely wrong. I am very happy to see you, Claudia."
11121_assumption: (Simple Halo)

(at this rate I should get Claudia an icon)

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-09-01 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She looked at him sympathetically, tails curled around her legs. "If you do not wish to discuss it, that is fine. I don't intend to pry."
She looked at the table and stood, tails swaying. In a graceful bound she leapt up, pulling herself up. She looked over the scrools, very mindful of where she put her paws.

"Are you also doing some...supplementary reading?"
notmyrealname: (Default)

(I need to upgrade Cissnei so I can get her Pokemon icons too xD)

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-09-03 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm just worried, that's all." About everything and everyone. Things just seemed so tense lately and something felt wrong.

Tseng shifted back slightly to give Claudia some more space on the table, looking momentarily like a deer caught in the headlights before he cleared his throat.

"A..bit, yes. Cissnei has interest in all of the Legendaries so we're..utilizing the resources available."
11121_assumption: (Simple Halo)

damn you Pokeymans!

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-09-04 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Claudia sat down carefully and gave him a knowing, slightly mysterious smile, "Don't worry, Tseng. Walter is also pursuing information on his own interests here. It would be hypocritical of us to judge you and your trainer for doing the same."

Although, Walter's was more focused. He wanted to know; were there Pokemon here chosen by the Sun, or who the power of Heaven? And so far, there were. To him, it was a sign that God had touched his world. Perhaps, because there were Pokemon, She had been able to infuse some with divine gifts to look after humanity...?

"If there are certain legends you wish to know of, I can relay some of what Walter has learned here. He has been looking into legendary Pokemon with ties to the Sun."
notmyrealname: (☀37)

They gotta stop being so wonderful ugh

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-09-08 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Her comment has the Riolu relaxing, a small grin appearing as he gives her a nod.

"A friend of Cissnei's is doing the same. They're trying to compile as much information as they can before we no longer have access to this place." While looking for stuff about Ho-Oh and Lugia of course.

Tseng's grin fades into a more thoughtful look as Claudia mentions legendary Pokemon that are tied to the sun.

"We haven't come across anything like that, at least not that I've seen. I know Cissnei is particularly interested in Arceus though."

Such sweethearts seriously

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-09-11 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Arceus..." Claudia replied thoughtfully. She closed her eyes, thinking hard. They had read that name somewhere. "I've heard that name. Walter read it and found parallels to our faith. Arceus created angels that created forms of order...I will see if we still have the scroll with that information for you."

It was fascinating to see how Walter tried to find links and form an understanding of this world through his beliefs. And Claudia enjoyed assisting him, finding those connections and learning more about the myths and legends of her world.

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-09-13 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you. It would be appreciated," Tseng said with a small smile. "I know Cissnei was interested to learn more about the whole creation aspect. What Arceus can do."

She had also been poking at things related to another Pokemon but had told him not to say anything about it to anyone.

"Have you had any luck finding information on Ho-Oh or Lugia?"
11121_assumption: (Simple Halo)

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-09-13 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"There is not much we have found yet in the scrolls that is not repeated. But an acquaintance informed my trainer that Lugia has appeared in Johto before. It calmed a massive storm that was causing tidal waves which threatened the cities near the shores." She recounted.

Walter had not told her to be secretive about their research but there was the question of the Sun Pokemon...on that she had to keep absolute silence.
notmyrealname: (☀37)

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-09-16 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"We've found a lot of duplicate articles as well," Tseng said with a slight huff, reaching for another scroll. "A massive storm..I think I remember Cissnei mentioned that. I think it was in one of the big books she was reading. I didn't get many details about the event, though."

Because he'd been napping.
11121_assumption: (Simple Halo)

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-09-17 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"It seems they have the power to handle such things...yet, they are not. My trainer first thought it might have been some form of divine punishment." She sighed. While it would somewhat make sense, it meant that simply stopping them would not be an option.

"From what we have read, the legendary Pokemon Ho-oh revived the three beasts from the dead. But whether it holds any control or say over it's creations..." Claudia shook her head. "I cannot see anything that has implied such a link."
notmyrealname: (☀37)

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-09-17 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"There doesn't seem to be much that a Legendary can't handle. Even if one doesn't have the ability to, there seems to always be another that does." A Legendary for every occasion. It was a bit daunting when you really stopped to think about it.
11121_assumption: (Simple Halo)

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-09-17 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then...why haven't they responded to this?" She asked quietly, looking at her paws sadly. "My trainer keeps asking...if the legendaries are meant to keep balance and to look after this world, why are Entei and Raikou causing this? And why has no other legendary stepped in? I cannot answer him."
notmyrealname: (☀37)

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-09-17 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Tseng's expression fell, melting into a frown as he looked down at all the books and scrolls.

"I wish there was an answer for that. They're causing so much trouble..it's not right. And none of them seem to want to stop," he murmured, letting out a soft huff. What was it going to take for them to realize what they were doing?
11121_assumption: (Simple Halo)

[personal profile] 11121_assumption 2017-09-17 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Claudia sighed, her ears falling. "It is concerning. I know people have gone to combat the fires...I've been praying for their safety. It has made my trainer question their intelligence." He was quick to explain he did not doubt her intelligence thankfully, or that of his Pokemon. But she could see how it was shaping his opinion on legendary Pokemon.
notmyrealname: (☀37)

[personal profile] notmyrealname 2017-09-17 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a moment of hesitation before Tseng scoots a bit closer to Claudia, gently bumping against her.

"They'll be alright, all of them. Everyone there has someone to look out for them and I know they'll be okay," he said softly, reassuringly. He didn't like seeing the Vulpix upset and while he, himself, had his doubts and his irritations towards the Legendaries..they had to stay positive.
